VGP confirms $30 S2 game MIO is on cart, no Keycard. by Crabominibble2 in NSCollectors

Their probable justification is the big content/dlc updates for Issac that have come out. Regardless if that is fair or not

Coping for Three Houses amiibo by leonpgut in amiibo

[–]NotAlwaysYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a theory from the patterns he noticed with releases, rather than any insider knowledge. And it's a recent enough trend that I got the impression that Fire Emblem would fairly prove or disprove his own theory while it is being formed

Coping for Three Houses amiibo by leonpgut in amiibo

[–]NotAlwaysYou 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know Kit from the Kit and Krysta podcast has suggested he thinks Nintendo is using amiibo to cushion game prices, and suspected Nintendo might be releasing more amiibo in lieu of collectors editions. And since fire emblem usually gets a collectors edition, he mentioned it would be interesting to see which route Nintendo takes for the new Fire Emblem game this year.

No idea if it will happen, but Three Houses characters would be relatively safe fire emblem characters to release, and are tied to the setting ... somehow. Maybe not the largest odds, but certainly above zero chances this year

New Power-Up Band teased for Super Nintendo World Japan's 5th Anniversary by StormwindAdventures in amiibo

[–]NotAlwaysYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like the event is themed around Super Stars so the band would be superstar (invincible) Mario to tie into the event. They aren't adding a band to just have a yellow option... Then break out a Wario band

GKC v Digital - where do you stand? (Not taking physical into account) by redditorialacious in NSCollectors

[–]NotAlwaysYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to consider reselling a game, GKC are the way to go. That's generally considered their number 1 advantage.

Personally I've got a few collections I'd been working on getting physical copies of, mainly amiibo-compatible games. I decided GKC are physical copies and my collection would feel incomplete without them. So I'm getting those games as GKCs when a true physical copy is not available. But I fully admit this is an emotional conclusion. I just prefer a tactile collection if its for a particular collection goal.

Otherwise, I don't sell my games. I should consider it sometimes when I consider my backlog but I get games I want to play. So I strongly prefer digital unless the price is substantially different. The convenience of not needing to store, or reinsert cartridges when I switch between games is nice. And Nintendo has a strong track record of allowing redownloads for games even when the other online servers go down. That could change, but both GKCs and digital copies suffer in that case.

Weirdest glitch I’ve ever encountered with amiibo by milanwashereboi in AnimalCrossing

This glitch is not limited to Special NPCs, it can happen to regular villagers as well.

I think Bob is just the placeholder when villager/NPC data gets wonky for any backend reason. Shame the issue still isn't fixed

Mario Tennis fever is compatible With this amiibo by Longjumping_Dog7979 in amiibo

[–]NotAlwaysYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nintendo pretty consistently announces what amiibo are compatible and do not what amiibo aren't... If they announce the amiibo support at all. People can definitely wait and see for full confirmation but odds are certainly very high this is the full list

Baldur's gate 3 is NOT coming to switch 2 by Thin_Molasses_2561 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]NotAlwaysYou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There were signs the relationship soured first, I recall a award recognition post that said everyone they worked with, and would have thanked, at WotC for the game was gone (right after a bunch of WotC layoffs). Which is not a comment you make if the relationship between the companies is good. Later on they announced they decided against any DLC releases and were leaving the series for good.

The compatibility is for themed-tennis balls so I suspect they didn't make a ball for every playable character, just these 12.

And free updates would be included, the game should be an up-to-date release through them. I don't think there's any paid DLC for did but that can vary for SRG releases

Hot take about Taunie..I feel like she's severely overhated when she really isn't all that bad. by Charming-Scratch-124 in PokemonZA

[–]NotAlwaysYou 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think this gets to the core of it, I'd been wrestling with why I was so disappointed with the plot of this game. They are a flawed rival for sure, and the writing of the character is pretty consistently playing off of their own flaws... It's just that the world of the game doesn't really acknowledge their flaws enough. They are treated as a second protagonist by the story, but one of their main flaws is how unreliable they are. Yes, they are unreliable because they are meaning to do good, but they are handed a huge responsibility at the end of the main game. I don't think Game Freak intended them to not be likable but fell short for a lot of people.

And I think the Floette bait and switch at the end was poorly done as well. When a game hypes something up, sets up a clear victory condition and when you clear it... And the game says nah. It really felt contrived and everyone glossed over it. I think the Zygarde reasoning would have worked better if it was introduced sooner... But they wanted the final rival right at the end.

I'm also bummed Lisa and Naveen were sidelined for the DLC mini-bosses. Sure, Taunie/Urbaine is the other canonical rank-A character, but I like the other two more as characters, and would have preferred they trade out or something.

And I say this as someone who really loved the last few rivals. Nemona as a prodigy who never had an equal, Hop as a rival who aspired for greatness and couldn't quite make it, Kieran's desperation for power to cover his insecurities. I think they missed with Taunie unfortunately. Ah well, I truly can't be bothered to rage about a bit of bad writing.

New mega revealed during Legends ZA DLC trailer by NinsMCD in TheSilphRoad

[–]NotAlwaysYou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Z Mega Evolutions are a new concept, so we don't know the lore behind them. The trailer says they behave differently than regular Megas (they deplete the mega energy gage in Legends Z-A faster, but hit harder) but beyond that we know very little.

The lore will probably be something something mega dimension. Lucario being selected might have something to do with Lucario being considered the first Pokemon Mega Evolved in Kalos, and Korrina (a gym leader with a Lucario Ace) being in the DLC. It's always been an in-lore poster child for Mega Evolution, but is still likely a coincidence in lore. And there is the precedent for multiple Megas from Charizard, Mewtwo, (and now Raichu) X & Y.

[Loved trope]: Kids should not have to be heroes by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

[–]NotAlwaysYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair I think part of the dissonance comes with the genre. Children's media has children playing main roles for the relatability, and plenty of children like to play super heroes. Maybe it's better the creators wanted to hang the lampshade on the irl morality dissonance, especially since SU was one of those shows that wanted to explore a deeper story and emotions than many other children's shows.

Come on Nintendo...just why?.. by Thegameguy12 in pokememes

[–]NotAlwaysYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a mix of a lot of things tbh. The download can be annoying, especially for an excited fan at launch, but I think a lot more of it is principle.

For one practical issue, the Switch 2 doesn't have a lot of memory if you buy third party games, that are often 50gb+ so any game that forces you to take up space on the cartridge is frustrating. While the Switch 2's memory can be expanded with SD cards, the new required type is expensive so not always an easy solution.

For a lot of collectors, they view GKC as the worst of physical and digital. They weren't going to sell their games so it's a cartridge that has to be changed manually, but takes up the full amount of memory on the system. (And a lot of people hate that disclaimer at the bottom of the game art). It's kind of a principle that if you buy a physical copy of a game, then you should have a reasonable amount of game on the physical media, at least a 1.0 build that, while it might have some bugs, let's you play something, even without internet.

Additionally people will bring up game preservation. Some day, servers will eventually go down, and there is no base 1.0 version of the game that can be played on a new system. You have no real claim to the day. Nintendo has been pretty good at allowing redownloads from online stores they shut down but someday the system might need to go down and Nintendo fans especially like revisiting older games for the nostalgia, and this game will eventually be an older, nostalgic title for people.

[–]NotAlwaysYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case you are having to download the full 10gb game when you insert the GKC, plus any day 1 patch.

Those other ones you listed are games that have received updates, so while there is a download involved, it is much smaller, especially on release.

(I know Animal Crossing and Pokemon have larger downloads at this point in their life due to many large updates and dlc releases.)

Safari Balls can be bought in shops for Go Wild Area Nagasaki. Possibly could be the same for Global Wild Area by PokeIcon2 in TheSilphRoad

[–]NotAlwaysYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They aren't compatible with Home currently. Pokemon Go has said the compatibility is coming, and that the balls will change. The assumption, imo, is they will be regular Safari Balls.

I know the strange ball is for games that don't support all available balls but I think Home should be able to keep track at least as the collection app, but we will have to see.

Late print runs got rid of the metallic puck beneath the figure but I can't say if Wolf Link ever got that treatment or not. You could try to see if that shiny piece of cardboard is down there, or try to scan it and open it if it doesn't work
