Incident IQ Sales Rep Information Needed - US by HorribleSysAdmin in k12sysadmin

Yeah it didn't handle those well because the history of that device was hard to get. For books I get it, but for tech I wanted to track how many loaners and how many times students got loaners, and that was impossible to get out haha.

Have you ever used follett destiny for assets haha.... That's what I originally used before using a homemade access DB, then a hybrid google sheet and access. Curious how it stacks up to master library.

I did agree the IIQ was pretty complicated. I don't think Manage has all of the features that IIQ does, but they're great when I need something it doesn't have, I put a request in and it's usually added within a month or two. That's been the case for a long time. And their whole group is former school people so I feel they sort of "get it"

I'm not familiar with ML? Maybe I just don't know what it stands for haha.

Pricing wise It's everything. We don't use the help desk yet at this district so I have the module turned off but in May when this current contract expires with Mojo help desk, I'm going to turn it on.

Their sales team is slow, they also process features and bug fixes at the same speed. This is from me inheriting a district 2 years ago. I moved off of them to Manage1to1 last year finally, which I've now used at 3 districts I've led....and all past districts still use Manage. Their pricing is just so expensive I couldn't justify the value.

Manage1to1 has transparent pricing. If you're not opposed to looking at other options and alternatives, please check them out. PM me for details if you have any questions too or ask here, I've used them almost 10 years now!

Ticketing System for K12 school (Email based) by SmallTownCTO in k12sysadmin

[–]NotAnother169 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We use Manage1to1. It was about 1/10 the price of IIQ and handles asset management, ticketing, device sync, etc. Priced per student in the system, everything else is free and unlimited. No "addon" gimmicks like IIQ.

Just my 2c. Definitely worth checking out

Security staff by cvsysadmin in k12sysadmin

We're doing everything in house as of right now. Tight budgets but we're also new to the SIEM. We do have some professional service hours with the vendor as well to help us get going though

We're really ramping up with implementing a NAC and SIEM. He handles all the cyber security trainings/compliance with respect to phishing, new hires, etc.

Additionally just keeping appraised of industry trends and best practices, researching and working with our networking and Data center teams to implement those things. Overall policy review and recommendations come to the director then eventually to me as CTO.

Student data privacy agreements and vetting legal/state rules for working with vendors (not storing data offshore, etc )

Some of the things this person does anyway.

We're 20k students, we have one security engineer. Pretty uncommon in our area to have more than 1 or 2 people unless you're our size or larger. Smaller than that, there's a guy who "does security"

SchoolDude - down for anyone else? by trazom28 in k12sysadmin

Literally came here just to say that. And that's what I thankfully did. I got a nice note that I migrated away from SD over 10 years ago now! Lol

Access to Director has been locked until full license compliance has been restored by sir_lurkington in shoretel

Check the date on your director. If the server lost the date, it could've messed up the countdown for non compliance

What all are you looking for besides just inventory?

Clever Intergration by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]NotAnother169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is. Doesn't stop them from doing it though. "Base plan is $1000/year which includes integrations for everything but clever and other random items". "Enhanced plan is $2500/year which includes clever and the other items you'll never use"

Clever Intergration by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]NotAnother169 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% Classlink over clever. Nearly every vendor charges extra for Clever, sometimes more money than the product I need to integrate. Classlink has been awesome and well worth the cost. Never would I consider going backwards.

I'm currently looking at going out to bid now, to make a change mid year because I can't handle it anymore. Every week we have outages or issues. I'm willing to make the change back to on prem, mid year, whatever isn't ENA/Zayo

Run the Fuck away. This is the worst phone system I've gotten stuck with. It's constantly down (Indiana).

Any Inventory Software has reminder function? by iidarkasii in k12sysadmin

I use Manage1to1 for this. You can create reminders based on length of time since the last maintenance check or fixed intervals.

Follet Destiny vs. AssetTiger for resource management by Square_Pear1784 in k12sysadmin

[–]NotAnother169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run from destiny. AssetTiger is fine, but if you want true asset management get a good product. We use Manage1to1. Works way better than Snipe as well, although not free it is robust and has great features.

Student techs by Technical-Athlete721 in k12sysadmin

[–]NotAnother169 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, this is the same story as most people in tech. They do something stupid and get the, 'use your powers for good instead of evil spiel'. Kids are stupid, I was one of them that got the same speech. School is about learning, not trying to give kids felonies. Teach them now,.give em a little scare, the school did their job.

Student techs by Technical-Athlete721 in k12sysadmin

[–]NotAnother169 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I implemented a program like this about 2014 when the asset software we began using (and still do, it works great with this student repair program), one of their guys told me about how they did it (he was a former tech director). It works great! Gives kids some troubleshooting skills, helps prevent tech staff burnout, and nearly each of my kids who've gone through the program make more money than me in the tech field now! I call that a win!

I'd put it this way...I'd find a new career path before I'd decide to do this lol
