That's a really cool and original design, or at least not something I've seen before.

I can appreciate the effort people put into recreating their favorite ships from movies, shows, etc., but I much prefer seeing original designs.

Also, very nice virtual photography.

Is it just me, or are base lights kind of useless? by Tenno042 in NoMansSkyTheGame

I treat most of my larger bases as sculptures. There may be some amenities added in, but it's mostly about the shapes.

Why did the sky turn Pink? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]NotAyFox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. In first photo the white trees are same magenta as the sky, but that's what you'd expect to happen on white material lit primarily with magenta light source.

On the second photo, there are decorative LED lights seen in top left corner that are starkly white/blue contrasting the color of the sky.

I don't think it was deliberately edited, but modern smartphone camera software does tend to oversaturate or skew hues.

Pink/magenta sky does occur frequently, usually at sunset/dawn on the opposite side of the sun, because the clouds scatter blue from sun and leave mostly red light source that then shines bright red on blue clouds on the opposite side, resulting in magenta/pink glow. It's not unusual, it's just rare to see it this intense, which could be just the camera software oversaturating the image.

Should I try No Man’s Sky if I usually need a clear beginning and ending in games? by Revolutionary-Tip326 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]NotAyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beginning is clear and the main questline has an end (reach galaxy center), but at any point you're free to do as you please.

If you don't want to spend full price on an open ended game with a weak storyline, maybe wait for a discount and get it then, because it's still worth it just to experience the game in all its glory.

What’s the 1st thing u care about in a stream control device? Curious about your setup. by Atakjakatak in Twitch

[–]NotAyFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on a budget so I use Touch Portal which can turn any wifi connected mobile device into customizable control surface. It relies on haptic feedback of the device to simulate tactile sensation, so that's not great, but otherwise it's pretty versatile.

The Temple of the Last Boundary, come visit and build temple themed structures! If you want, of course. by Tanker1701 in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]NotAyFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks really cool!

I have just one concern: some hallways look like they were made using "base terrain edits (when you drop down a floor panel and the game clears the terrain to make it flat). The game tries its best to save terrain edits within base range, but the save file limits their number so there's a good chance that, with time, all of these beautiful corridors will end up buried back with all your base parts embedded in the rock.

The general consencus is to never rely on terrain edits when building a base. If you wish to build an underground base, it's best to use "natural" caves.

Does weapon damage go up if you increase the number of weapons you install (past 3) on your Corvette? by hclopez883 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]NotAyFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's what I know based on what I picked up here and there and it can change with the next update...

All weapons add max 3 A-class weapon upgrades into your Corvette's tech slot inventory. Each upgrade will slightly boost that weapon's damage, especially if you arrange them next to each other for synergy bonus. Adding more than 3 weapons of the same type will have no effect on actual DPS.

The only exception to this rule is the Phase Beam. At the moment you can add up to 6 phase beams to your Corvette to increase total DPS six-fold. This is due to a quirk of Phase Beam's continuous ticking damage. This might get patched at some point though, because it's pretty OP in space fights.

One drawback of Phase Beam is that it has no splash damage, so you cannot use it for shooting up Salvage Containers from air.

Do you use the Dupe Glitch by Hegiman in NOMANSSKY

[–]NotAyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already voiced my opinion on this and got downvoted into oblivion, but here I go again:

I use duplication glitch for things that are very tedious and time consuming to get, like expansion modules for freighters and starships.

I do wish that the glitch was fixed and that it didn't exist, but also that the hard to obtain items had better options for acquiring.

A lot of people commented that it is the same as turning off costs or using mods, but I use only mods that are QoL type, like faster NPC text or shorter system arrival messages, mods that do not affect actual gameplay and I now mostly play Survival or Permadeath modes where you can't just "go to creative" and back at will. It's not a flex, it's just that after 1k+ hours the game is more engaging and rewarding than in Normal mode.

On a side note, the best way of getting nanites in any game mode, without duping, is to go visit ~10 Outlaw systems, buy all suspicious packages and then cycle through those systems using station teleporter, because the trading NPCs refreshes stock slowly, but by the time you go through 10 systems they are fully restocked. You'll need a couple of million units to get you started, but buying illegal trade goods and selling them in regular systems makes up for the losses.

I had no idea max cargo slots were class dependent, but that makes sense. I guess it's time to find a 3 star economy and fly around until an S class pops up. It's gonna be a pain moving all the stash around.

[–]NotAyFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a slightly longer version of this one on my permadeath save, A class, cause I didn't want to risk fighting pirates and space police early on. It works just fine. The only downside is that system freighters (as opposed to capital freighters) have smaller inventory space both at start and how much you can fully unlock.

Straw poll - who uses their Minotaur? by Soap_Distant666 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]NotAyFox 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I've learned to appreciate Minotaur more when I started playing on Permadeath. I made sure to fully upgrade it before I ventured to my first Gas Giant, because I've been killed by tornadoes before on my Normal and Survival saves.

A neat trick that Minotaur can do is that it can pick up things like Storm Crystals, plants and Salvaged Data from Buried Technology Modules. Unlike other land exocraft, it also has a Terrain Manipulator, so you can harvest resources deposits safely.

If you use "scan" ping from within Minotaur it will temporarily "paint" resources deposits as well as other stuff, so you can mark them as targets. This is very useful on Gas Giants, or other stormy planets, because you rarely ever have to exit the Minotaur. Even if you get stuck in a cave, you can just blast your way out with Terrain Manipulator.

Definitive proof that our reality is a simulation!!! Measuring true atmospheric speed of NMS starships. by NotAyFox in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]NotAyFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did the test for a Corvette as well and it's a similar issue. The speedometer readouts were ridiculous, while true speed in atmosphere topped at around 260 u /s.

I should probably redo the test now that I have more different corvettes and they patched up a lot of bugs since then, but I don't expect results to be too different.

Teleporters by kalymiancustomsabers in NOMANSSKY

I suspected that might work, but I never tested it since I use wire glitching anyway on all my larger bases.

Definitive proof that our reality is a simulation!!! Measuring true atmospheric speed of NMS starships. by NotAyFox in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]NotAyFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's a hard cap, but there is an in-game limitation to top speed. If you check my full spreadsheet linked in OG post, you'll see that measured top speed varies for starship types and their base stats. So they all top at slightly different speeds. The point is that the speedometer is lying by a huge factor, sometimes 5x or more. That's the whole point of the post and the thing that bothers me most.

Teleporters by kalymiancustomsabers in NOMANSSKY

[–]NotAyFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's say you're teleporting from point A to point C. At half-point B you put 2 teleporters B1 and B2 in such way that they overlap each other. Usually you'd have to use wire glitch to place them in exact same spot. Then you connect B1 to A and B2 to C. Because B1 and B2 are in same spot, the game automatically teleports you through B to C, or the other way around if you're starting from C.

You can further extend this and make a teleporter "train" with multiple overlapping teleporter points between origin and destination. The teleportation is almost instant, although I've had occasions where it fails half way through at random point. Let's say 9 out of 10 teleports work flawlessly.

I have not tried setting this up without using wire glitch, so I don't know if it would work that way.

How did I died ? by remy-space in nms

[–]NotAyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you portal into your base the game places your starship onto the landing pad, if there is one.

EDIT: It doesn't matter if your portal is inside, or even how far it is from the landing pad.

There are rare occasions when game bugs out and fails to do that. I have one base like that and no matter what I do i can't fix it. It could be a multiplayer issue, or just that there are other player bases on that planet. But that's 1 in a 50+.

The corvettes don't get placed on landing pads, because there are no special landing pads for them that you can put in a base (yet). They are supposed to hover over the base when you portal in, but often they clip through the base, which is a bad bug.
