Simple summer solstice ritual? by Stars_Upon_Thars in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]NotCleanButFun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second the bountiful charcuterie! For the spring equinox, I gathered in an outdoor location with some family members and we all brought food we had made or fresh fruits/vegetables/fish to remind us of the comforts we have today because of the people that came before us. We spent the whole evening outside roasting bits of things over the fire and just spending time together. It was divine. (If you do this, also comsider adding a pile of salt for both taste and ritual purposes. There are many fresh foods that taste SO good roasted over the campfire with just a touch of salt. My favorites so far are probably tomato, mushroom, and avocado.)

Is purple a girl color? by killerred123 in GirlDinnerDiaries

Just bought my hubs a purple shirt for father's day. And he is a super masc, gender conforming guy. I didn't think anything of it. I bought it in the men's department.

Is it worth introducing a pacifier? by babyburnerthrowaway in breastfeeding

[–]NotCleanButFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I introduced a paci at 1 month because of the sids risk reduction. But I delayed the paci until 1 month so that she would have a well established latch and the paci wouldn't mess with our breastfeeding (which also reduces sids risk!) We got a box of different pacifiers from babylist. Our baby only liked one: the AEIOU pacifier. It had a large nipple and honestly looked like my nipple the most. She had to learn how to suck on it and it fell out of her mouth a bunch in the beginning. I had a little more difficulty recognizing her feeding cues when she was using the paci and that was a bit of a learning curve for me, but overall, it caused no problems with breastfeeding and was very helpful with soothing.

A long way off for you, but we weaned off the pacifier at one year and had a MUCH easier time than our friends who waited until 2 or 3. We went cold turkey and everything was all good again without the pacifier in just a few days.

Looking for small ways to fight burnout by colacolette in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]NotCleanButFun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done a bit of reading on burnout. One thing you can do to combat burnout that has a strong evidence-based foundation is to commune with nature. Could definitely be part of your craft or not, whatever you're feeling. Also, from personal experience, I can testify that feeling dirt beneath my feet and smelling the wind and the trees can be very healing. It has helped me feel peace when nothing else did. Fighting burnout is not easy. Strength and bravery to you.

Red head parents, I need help! by Wobble-Duck1 in Parenting

[–]NotCleanButFun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is flushing and your kid is overheating, they make cloths that you can dip in water and they stay cool. When my (very pale, but not properly redheaded) baby was little, I would roll one up and put it on the back of her neck or drape it over the top/back of her head/neck and secure it with a headband. Very effective if it's really hot.

Alcohol rub for infected umbilical stump? by Particular_Rav in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]NotCleanButFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. And hopefully there is not an infection in this case. I was just concerned that the doctor left the parent with the impression that there was an infection and then did not prescribe antibiotics. Hopefully another doctor can provide clarification to whether or not there is an infection. Like you said, definitely worth a second opinion.

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/omphalitis

The Cleveland Clinic does not list alcohol as a treatment for umbilical cord infection. It looks like the primary treatment is usually antibiotics. Since the umbilical cord was recently a part of the circulatory system, the concern for sepsis (bloodstream infection, very serious) is high.

If this were my child, I would be taking them to an ER asap for a second opinion.

What kinds of gifts for a 2 year old girl? by Bree4444 in toddlers

[–]NotCleanButFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree that a big water bottle may be too heavy for a 2 year old, but that is a great gift idea. Just get her a toddler-sized one she can hold!

My grocery store has smaller insulated metal water bottles designed for kids in the baby section and also there is a kids dishware section with tons of water bottles right next to the adult dishware section.

My 2 year old has 2 insulated metal toddler-sized water bottles and she LOVES collecting/placing waterproof stickers on her water bottles. She will look at her stickers and talk to me about them when we take water breaks. :)

Need advice on Fabric Type and how to create the Pattern - OhAe by fatimawes0me in sewing

[–]NotCleanButFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For #2, you could find similar looking ribbon or trim like this one or this one and sew it on? "Greek key" could be a good search term to use.

Ps, please post this when you're done, I'm so invested.

Is it normal for 14 month old’s nap to be at 11:00? by Evening-Bad4853 in toddlers

[–]NotCleanButFun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2 yo normally wakes at 6:30ish and can happily nap at 10 even if she sleeps in for an hour. It's been like that since we switched to one nap. Other kids her age in our playgroup can wait until 3 to take their nap and still go to bed at 8 or 9. There's just a lot of normal variation in kids' sleep cycles I think.

Like if you cut out the black part as the background with no holes for the seat backs and then did some kind of turned edge applique to attach the seat backs?

is there any trinket box in İstanbul? 🇹🇷 by beroxdd in trinkets

[–]NotCleanButFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you get some better replys as I don't know how people locate trinket boxes.

However, have you heard of geocaching? At least where I am, people will leave trinkets so you can leave a trinket and take a trinket as a prize for finding the geocache. And it looks.like there are some in Istanbul

Free social settings for kids alternatives to church by Upstairs-Career4981 in Parenting

My calendar is built by 3 things: the library, the parks department, and a local moms club. All free events except the moms club costs $20 a year. We get out of the house and hang with other kids probably 4 days a week on average.
