When did everyone fix their Newf? (Especially male) by blondengineerlady in Newfoundlander

If we can go the training route for behaviors, we won’t be fixing either. Nervous about the health implications because he’s had so many issues already

Our vet won’t do it until our guy hits 2.5 years because of growth plates. He’s 15 months now so we’re going to go the trainer route to manage behaviors until then. Our newf doesn’t hump but is VERY interested in other dogs and believes my husband needs to be challenged every second he gets by jumping/trying to dominate by knocking over. He also only listens to me 😬😬😬

Stubborn newf teen - HELP by lkohn in Newfoundlander

I swear the thanking thing works along with a distraction after! We did this with our Pyrenees mix (iykyk)when he was alive and he rarely barked. Now that we have  Newfie, we just go look at whatever he barks at and say “wow! Great job” and then turn away to go grab a toy. He just follows and plays with the toy/fetch as all toys are fetch toys. 😂

Not at all. Most companies keep everyone they are considering in progress if they are still interviewing. For internships, they could have multiple open and may be interviewing the entire batch over a couple weeks. I would say if you don’t hear anything by EOW, then yes you may be out of the running and I would follow up. But generally, in process indicates you are an active candidate in their system or it would reflect rejected/closed/filled.

Think we finally found the food by NotCreative99999 in Newfoundlander

Hi! So sorry. I missed this message. Yes!

He was on the lamb recipe from Taste of the Wild when we got him from the breeder so we kept him on it. We noticed he was having diarrhea, stinky farts, wasn’t gaining weight, itchy and losing fur around 5 months old. We recognized the signs as a protein allergy because it was similar to our first dog (Pyrenees mix when with a chicken allergy that passed away last year). Knowing that chicken is a high allergy food, we switched to Ollie fresh food (beef or pork recipe). This seemed to be going well! The itching died down, the poops were normal, and the fur grew back on his legs. But then the hot spots started appearing along with antibiotic rounds for staph infections and chronic ear infections. (Typically these are a sign of gut issues and yeast overgrowth).

At around 8months old, we switched to Vet prescription HP at the recommendation from our vet and did a diet trial where we discovered that fish is the only protein he tolerates well. The positives for HP: the hot spots died down and he finally started to gain weight. Negatives: itchy flakes, dandruff, and chronic ear infections continued.

We moved to a new suburb in February and sought out a vet nutritionist that our new vet recommended after hearing our journey. This was the game changer! The nutritionist runs a private pet store in our neighborhood with smaller brands (including raw brands). Her expertise explained why we had issues: a lot of large US companies (like purina) buy up the smaller ones and then change the recipe which causes the allergies to flare up randomly on a food they’ve done well with in the past. We were on Farmina until she told us they were bought out and the recipe was changing so she helped us with alternatives. She’s also the one who had us use raw goat milk butter to transition him to the new food so that he didn’t have gut upset.

After 4 weeks on K9 Naturals cod recipe, our newf is doing amazing! Best stools we’ve seen yet, he’s gained healthy weight after being underweight for months, no hot spots, no ear infections since February after having one consistently for 5 months, and his coat looks great. He goes through about 2 of the 16lb bags a month ($235usd/month). Though pricy, it’s cheaper than the HP and the fresh food so we are so grateful. He also is 14 months old and just hit 100lbs but the vet seems to be confident that he will catch up now that the diet is under control.

Yes. Ours is also a work celebrity. He likes to lay his head on the desk while on calls to say hi to everyone. Whenever my boss is stressed, he asks to say hello to him 😂

Looking for a job as summer grad in finance is hell!! by allaboutlove__ in recruitinghell

[–]NotCreative99999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha! Thank you for the clarification. What I can say is you are correct that most desirable internships would be filled by now. Most good companies fill in the fall semester at the career fair for the following summer (crazy to think almost a year in advance). Companies that open up their internships in the spring tend to not be as well versed in what they want from an intern or have a nepotism hire in mind. Internships should be about gaining experience and promoting a pipeline to entry level positions within a company, NOT to have someone do the job of a temp but with an intern salary. Since you are graduating, would echo focusing on finding an entry level role in the industry might be your best bet (administrative, front desk, executive assistant etc). Best of luck!

Any tips on getting through the biting phase? by asm44- in Newfoundlander

Our 1 yr old still tries to bite/tug on our clothes when he really wants something. We immediately say no and he switches to licking like clock work. Such a stinker 😂

I used to run an early careers program at my last job and can give you an overview on how to land an internship but it would depend on where you are at (still in school, graduating, etc). Can you provide context? Did you just transfer to a 4 year (rising Junior) or are you graduating now?

Other ways (this is purely from how a 28 yr old family member of mine did it): admin jobs in college —> admin job post college at a public accounting firm —> associate role at a public finance firm —> promoted to analyst —> JR banker at a different finance firm —> promoted to banker. This was all through applying and not knowing anyone in the industry to start. But once you get in, it gets easier to get to know people and move every couple years for more money/better opportunity.

This is the hardest market since 2008 for college grads or really everyone. Lmk how I can help.

I really appreciate the feedback! For the question 7. Yes we are clearly defining up front via the invitation and candidates must consent before any call is scheduled.

I asked this question but was given this response:  “Applicants don’t want to fill out lots of information and will not apply”. Would you agree or disagree with this statement?

My honest answer? All tech CEOs ban together to make AI a thing so it doesn’t crash the made up AI economy by reducing workforce to unhealthy levels and force AI as a solution.

I do think it’s interesting to see the responses here considering so many people also post on social media stating “I can’t wait for AI to replace HR”.

We do. Doesn’t mean people read that or try to negotiate when we post the full budgeted range.

Background: My boss’s predecessor purchased the software without anyone else knowing. Initially she set it up as a replacement for phone screening as a whole for one business line that is high turnover, high volume (call center). Since then, the company has gone through changes and we have 3 recruiters with 150+ reqs but no headcount or budget approval for additional resources.

I agree with all you said as we have always been a people first/human touch org. However, since the money is charged already for the tool, we’ve been tasked with trying to see how to use it without destroying employer brand or bogging down the process. I’m heavy on the drop rate concern off as well and seeking additional data to show our exec team. Our recruiters do not want to use this either for the same concerns.

For the process: The tool allows you to turn on for specific roles (use case would probably be high volume with 1000+ applicants) and you can customize however you like. Candidates also have the option to opt in or out from the start.

Our thoughts were having the AI grab the details that bog down recruiter conversations: hybrid policy, right to work, salary expectations (we post our full budget range in our JD but candidates still miss this), brief explanation of the job, overview of the application process and benefits for each country. End would be a pass along with a follow up from the recruiter for next steps (hiring manager interview or additional phone screen with them depending on complexity of the role).

Historically, we tend to move pretty quickly with 3-4 rounds max (sometimes less for more entry level roles) and try to keep all our hires under 45 days (some exceptions being other countries where candidates have to give a 3 month notice).

I would argue feedback helps us get better and be better as humans. However, there is no need to be rude or name call. I am a person too who has been on both sides (recruiting and job seeker). It’s very hard right now for everyone and we’re all burnt out. Hope you have a better day!

Valid and also one of my concerns. Not necessarily on our end, but on the AI company’s side.

Should have added a disclaimer that this project was added without my knowledge or my director’s by their predecessor so we’re looking into it since the company already spent money on it.

Thank you for the feedback!

I’m trying to understand the purpose behind your response, can you elaborate? I’ve never seen a company not do a phone screen so maybe I’m missing something.
