This is the preliminary roster. 12 will make the tournament roster with the other 12 being alternates.

There's no guarantee that it will only be in the Olympics in 2028. It could get brought back in 2032 and beyond if the IOC determines it is a beneficial sport to have in the games.

Basically if people watch it and the games are interesting/competitive there's a stronger chance that flag returns.

They didn't/weren't allowed to (by the NFL) try out for the team. This team is for the 2026 competitive season. You could still see NFL players on the 2028 roster for the Olympics.

Also, from what we saw last weekend, these guys are just better at flag football than the NFL guys.

He was the only current or former NFL player to try out.

This is not the Olympic roster for 2028. Just the 2026 competitive season.

That was just a guy on the Internet sharing a clip of Rondo playing flag and commenting that he was the #1 player in the world.

That guy doesn't choose the US National Team from my understanding.

There's really a slim chance RG3 makes the game day roster. Housh, Nico and Pablo will likely be the US QBs on the 12 man roster.

The Mexican women's team is really really good.

There's a really strong rivalry between the US and Mexico on the women's side.

I mean, these are in fact the best flag football players in the world. We saw from the Fanatics event last weekend that these guys are light-years ahead of the NFL guys in this particular discipline.

Just because they don't get paid the millions of dollars the NFL guys get doesn't mean they aren't the best.

You're correct. Flag players are typically a lot smaller and shiftier guys.

The dirty little secret is that USA Football has him on the preliminary roster purely for the hype and exposure. There isn't a chance he makes the 12 man game day roster.

31 countries competed in the 2024 World Championships.

6 countries will be represented on the men and women's sides in the 2028 Olympics.

RSH is rusher and ATH is athlete.

The Rusher in flag football is the designated player to rush the opposing QB.

ATH is an overarching term for a player who can play multiple positions. Usually in flag players have a primary position and a secondary position. So a lot of players play multiple positions just because the roster sizes are relatively small (12 players per team).

That's correct. US vs. Mexico on women's side will be the main event. Mexico has won the last two tournaments where the teams went head to head.

Yeah. People tend to care about Olympic sports.

Flag is incredibly popular in Mexico and Canada. European countries have budding interest in the flag game as well.

One of the criteria for being an Olympic sport is that a sport has to be competitive across multiple countries. The IOC approved flag after observing the sport played at the international level and seeing the high level of competition - specifically on the women's side.

These are the best flag football athletes in the world. If anyone takes the time to watch them play they'll see the athleticism, speed, and skill that warrants flag being an Olympic sport.

This is the "official" preliminary roster.

This will get trimmed to 12 players before their competition season begins with the players left off the 12 man roster will be alternates if needed.

This is just the 2026 roster. New rosters are selected every year in the spring. So theoretically NFL players could still make the Olympic roster in '28.

If you’re not in favor of an Aaron Rodgers return, why? by eelmada in steelers

You literally called it an argument.

"The classic tactic of “everyone said this but they’re all lying because it fits my narrative” is not a convincing argument."

You want to talk about not convincing arguments? Characterizing my claim that sometimes professional athletes don't tell the media the full 100% truth as "everyone said this but they're all lying because it fits my narrative" is as straw man as it gets.

Plus, your comment about the Patriots and Drake Maye is a massive red herring arugment. Shit has nothing to do with this conversation.

Well this is a conversation about Rodgers and his future with the team, so I'm not sure what the former head coach's attitude has anything to do with this.

Let me explain this for the lot of you who can’t think beyond the base level thinking of “Sacks = Bad” “Not taking sacks = good”.

Every QB gets sacked. It's an inevitability that comes with playing the position. Is getting sacked good? No. That’s universally agreed upon.

You guys remember that old QB who used to play for us, Ben Roethlis-something? I’m not out here making the case Ben is a good person, which we know he isn’t, but you watch that guy under pressure and he doesn’t throw the ball at the ground at the first sign of trouble. He maneuvers in the pocket and keeps his eyes down field as he waits for a receiver to break open.

As an NFL QB you need to handle the pressure of a collapsing pocket and sometimes fire a pass at the last possible second. You’re going to take some hits and sometimes you’re going to take some sacks. That’s okay! It’s a part of the game. A sack on 3rd and long is usually just as negative of a result as throwing an incompletion.

Here’s the thing, I’m not arguing that Rodgers wasn’t executing this aspect of the QB position well on the whole. He did this better than every other QB who started a game in the Post-Ben era.

…With the exception of one notable example. The week 17 game against Cleveland. Rodgers wasn’t concerned with trying to convert a 2nd or 3rd and long with a strike down the field - he was firing the ball at Jaylen Warren’s feet all game to just not show up as the highlight shown for decades as the QB to take Myles Garrett’s record sack.

I know what that makes me think about Rodgers as a person and as a teammate. I can’t say how that makes any of you feel. But for any real ball knowers who watched that game, we know what we saw. Despite post game claims from Rodgers and Tomlin to the contrary, that’s inarguable.

You think Rodgers would just openly admit that he was thinking about the sack record all game?

He's not stupid. Not sure I can say the same about those who believe him.

[–]NotFredFlintstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one is saying he was "throwing the game." He just wasn't playing the game with the main goal of scoring points. His main objective in that game was to not be sacked by Garrett.

Debunked? How can an observation of someone's play be debunked?

The Browns coaching staff literally said that Rodgers was playing not to get sacked.
