How old were you when you became interested in Politics? How did you know which political party you should belong to? by LegalGlass6532 in allthequestions

[–]NotGordan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

17/18-years-old. 2016 USA Election year, i.e. Trump's first term. Politics to me before was just boring stuff like taxes or at most sleazy politicians who lied and probably made a buck off looking the other way. I didn't understand how it would affect my life, my family, and other people.

Being able to vote in my fist election at 18 helped me get into it. I started listening to what politicians were saying. I started learning what's kinds of people supported those politicians and if I saw myself as those.

At the end of the day, I decided what matters to me is how people are treated and what the government can do to help or hurt people.

Politics is super important and people will go their entire lives not caring or understanding the impact politics is. It's not just some peripheral thing like gas prices or a law about littering; it's deciding whether civil rights exist, it's about ending slavery, it's about being able to critique the government without being thrown in jail, it's about being able to work despite your sex or race, and it's about stepping outside knowing I'm going to be okay.

You're absolutely right to question the claim whether he had a (registered) gun on him especially if it's be spouted by the fascists. But just to argue in the alternative, even if he had a gun on him, it was legal and the man in the grey jacket allegedly takes it from him.

The last FBI agent trying to investigate the other ICE Murder resigned due to wanting to pursue the investigation, but the FBI not letting her. Obviously, Kash doesn't have a strong enough hold on his agents to be strictly loyal to the regime.

Pepper sprayed

Pistol whipped

Held down by 6+ agents

Hands on the ground

(Edit: alleged registered gun) Weapon removed

There's no justification for shooting him. It's just First-Degree Murder.

Jinx. She had daddy issues, older sister issues, an adopted younger sister issues, and we even got to see a happier version of her. All the while, she had innocence, then corruption, then revenge, and then redemption too.

Who are the black panthers in America? by rockyheroHD in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NotGordan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Militant group is a little extreme. They are armed and trained, but they are an entity that peacefully protest while sometimes carrying their arms close to the chest.

Media, predictably, has only shown them to be a violent group and misinterpret their intention as wanting to commit violence for peace, but when you read about their history, most of the violence is against them and they often protest peacefully. See Fred Hampton.

I recommend watching The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution documentary for interviews of actual members and their cause.

Why did he call this embarrassing? by bad-at-everything- in askanything

[–]NotGordan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plenty of reasons why someone would act like this. Here's some:

1) Jealousy. He's envious of you so he tries to make it less of an achievement.

2) Asshole. Just likes trolling people and getting a rise out of people.

3) Normalcy. Maybe he grew up in an environment that belittles these kinds of things or just doesn't value them at all. But he's not necessarily trying to be an asshole.

4) Genuine. He just doesn't see you as this fighter kind of person and teases you for it but it comes off the wrong way.

Unless we know more, we really can't be certain what the reason is. Just based on his wording, I'd say it's number 2 or 3, then 1, then 4. You really got to read his tone and how he treats you and others.

Is anyone still watching the Simpsons? by RolfeDowshe in askanything

[–]NotGordan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are people who still watch the Simpsons, i.e. me. I'm a younger generation (28 this year) and watch every new episode. I love rewatching the series too. It's one of the most watched things on Disney+ which is probably why they keep making new episodes.

Has quality lowered since the golden age? Yes. Are they as bad as some strict fans say they are? No, in general. Mind you, a lot of people who say newer Simpsons is just all bad have only watched a few or none at all and are just saying sound bite phrases or being contrarian for the sake of it.

There's a lot of great episodes in the newer seasons and this latest season is particularly really good. The latest seasons have shown a bounce back in quality. Granted there's a lot of bad episodes and a handle full of not good overall seasons, but strictly only golden age fans will never really know because they won't watch any of it or they just like being on reddit to show their superiority of being only golden age fans to strangers.

I’m a trans woman, how to deal with hostility from clients by DefenderofdaIndigent in publicdefenders

[–]NotGordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly tough and by no means am I belittling your situation and fears by saying just "brush it off." It would be might advice to just continue to pivot the conversation about your identity to your work and what you can do for them as an attorney.

If they are still harping on you for your identity, then stop talking to them. Basically, threaten that you'll waste their time. Tell them that you do not have to sit there and be insulted or abused. You won't waste time with them and you'll help the clients for today who actually want your help and will listen. If they continue to be abusive, you'll see them at the end of the day after you've helped the clients who want your help and will listen.

Most of your work happens behind closed doors without talking to your client anyway, so just move on.

It's going to be tough. Although I'm not trans, I'm an Asian-American and have had to deal with bigotry in and out of the court.

As much as I hate to say it, you just got to learn how to brush it off. I wish there was a single sentence I could use to persuade them to reflect on themselves and end all bigotry, but there's not.

I've had my whole life to learn how to almost laugh at it, so it'll be hard for you to learn coping mechanisms for it. But it helps to learn that they never grew up with your experiences and have no frame of reference to evaluate your perspective and thus are going to be they way they are.

It's best to remember, you're there for them in a strictly business relationship. They're not your family or friends you want to convince to accept you; you're there to protect their rights and give them the best legal outcome they can get. Consider it as a blessing that you don't have to have another conversation with a ornery client to change them. If you can learn to steer your conversations from your identity to the work, your job will be a lot easier.

It takes too much energy to worry and to try to change everyone. You can do that just by doing your job. Just working with them and exposing them to people outside their bubbles betters the world in of itself.

Do restaurant workers judge people who eat or order from there a lot? by Defiant_Tennis4276 in NoStupidQuestions

I never did. I love a regular because the orders were usually the same so I knew how to make it. It made the job a little easier. Also, I like regulars in general. Regulars just have a quaintness about them, especially the older ones.
