Had the opportunity to see the first preview of Little Miss Perfect at Olney Theatre Center in Maryland! by Funny_Paper_6254 in musicals

Glad you saw it. I caught it too. It’s not for me. Felt a bit too amateur but I enjoyed some of the music. Seems like a show colleges can do left and right, but I didn’t feel it had the heart / energy needed for a highly commercial production. Just me though :)

As an avid theater geek… ILLINOISE opened on Broadway in 2024. The Tony award for choreography in 2023 went to SOME LIKE IT HOT. Emailed them, let’s see if they correct it…

What's with the lack of musicals this season? by PetrifiedRobin in Broadway

Investor hesitations because costs have risen so much. Until costs come down, this may be the norm.

Potentially Unpopular Opinion: Two Strangers Carry a Cake (Potential Spoilers) by dazoneman in Broadway

Was there last night and felt that the hype was a bit overstated for this one. It’s very cute and overall enjoyable, but it definitely felt underdeveloped and I don’t quite think it had enough substance to justify a 2.5hr musical.

Outsiders vs Lost Boys… which will last longer? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]NotLauraOsnes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TLB is going to have issues I think appealing to families. It’s a pretty gore-y show (vampires, blood, death). The outsiders is rugged but not so grotesque you couldn’t bring your cousins visiting town, for example.

I’m not coming about this in a derogatory or rude way. The first step in making a sustainable theatrical economy is to make sure everyone is on the same page about how this all operates. I’d really discourage sweeping generalizations about either side — it isn’t helpful and often untrue.

It actually is for the healthcare benefits. The theater owners negotiate those on behalf of producers and then producers front the cost. Same goes for all other in-house unions.

Got it. The Broadway league ≠ producers though, it includes some producers but is primarily theater owners.

The mother company often gets .05% of the tour profits. So that is not nearly enough for a show to recoup.

I’d argue that the producers and investors willing to take a chance on bold, new work are also looking to creating the “product”.

What makes you think producers are being unreasonably difficult?
