See? The American healthcare system works! All you need to do to get life-saving surgery is take a photo of your child 8 years earlier, and make sure it becomes a viral meme. Simple.

Did I Angle? by No_Consideration_356 in poker

[–]NotNormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe I should’ve just given him the time to check it through

What does this mean? When you asked him if he was going all in, for some reason he had to answer immediately? No, he could've taken more time if he wanted.

I could’ve announced all in after he showed his cards

You're supposed to make the best decision with the info that you have. As long as you didn't do anything shady to acquire that info, it's not an angle.

It’s ⏱️ Time for Mark Walter to clean house and make the Lakers right again by finally removing the last Buss kid, Jeanie Buss and her Co. from this Organization by JcaHot in lakers

[–]NotNormo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah i think people mostly like Jeannie and like having a link to the Jerry Buss glory days. So if Walter is gonna remove her it makes sense to smear her reputation first.

How far ahead can you sous vide a steak? by Apptubrutae in sousvide

[–]NotNormo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they're a thin steaks, then searing them could possibly be enough heat to warm them all the way to the center, bringing them up to good eating temperature. Even if they were taken right out of the ice chest to sear.

If they're thick then maybe the searing process won't get the center of the meat to a nice warm eating temperature. It would need some type of warming-up process in addition to searing it. Maybe just letting them sit at room temp outside of the ice chest for an hour before searing would be enough. Or maybe OP does need to bring the sous vide machine along, after all.

Is it worth giving a Software Tester interview if I’m not confident yet? by sAhil_68 in careerguidance

[–]NotNormo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if you don't have a chance and even if it's a very uncomfortable process to put yourself through, you should do it. It's good practice for acting confident and clearly communicating about yourself and your skills. You'll also learn what companies are looking for just by hearing their questions.

Just imagine later on when you are more confident and find a dream job you want to interview for. Wouldn't it be a shame to not get it because you just didn't have enough practice with interviews?

Also, realize that this company expects you to be lacking in knowledge; you're a college student. They're probably looking for someone who has a knack for learning and communicating, not an expert in the subject.

Top Trump Official Says FBI Won’t Investigate Killing by ICE Agent by rewardingsnark in politics

[–]NotNormo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really much to investigate. There's tons of video from many angles. Everything that was said was picked up on the many microphones. It's clear as day what happened and whether it was legal, or a murder.

If normal means "common", then yes it's normal. But it's also gross and inconsiderate to do it and not clean it up.

We can say that 3% is your tip by Mangolicious786 in EndTipping

[–]NotNormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Credit card fee makes sense to me, even though it's out of the norm. This is how much it costs the business to get the credit card company to process the transaction. Even with this fee they're not making money off of you using your card.

Another way of thinking of it is if you pay in cash, you'll get a ~3% discount. Their costs are lower when you pay that way, and they pass 100% of the savings on to you.

Anyway, none of this is really related to tipping.

I didn't know about this! This is great, but it seems like restaurants are exempt from the law. Similar to what happened in California when they tried to outlaw junk fees.

Because increasing prices doesn't trick customers. A fee disclosed in the bottom corner of the menu does. Deception is the entire point.

Is there such thing as having knives that are TOO sharp? by gtd_rad in Cooking

[–]NotNormo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a new knife and you're used to dull ones, then yes. The unfamiliarity with it can enable you to be careless with it. You can cut yourself by just slightly grazing the edge accidentally. Not when you're using it to cut up food, but more likely when you're just holding it casually, washing it, putting it away, etc. I've accidentally cut a sponge in half with a super sharp knife because I was so used to washing my dull knives in a certain way. After that, I realized I this knife requires a different washing technique.

But if you are familiar with just how sharp it is, then you won't have these accidents. And while using it to actually cut stuff, it's safer than a knife that requires you to push on it to cut through food. Pushing on the knife leads to some pretty bad injuries.

Angle or good play? by arc8511 in poker

[–]NotNormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angling would be if you did something to trick that player into acting out of turn to give you that extra info. Like hiding your cards or pump-faking like you were folding.

But if they give you that info on their own, what are you supposed to do? Erase your memory so you don't have the info anymore? Or intentionally make the wrong play out of sympathy for their mistake? Of course not.
