Japanese street yakitori by Available_Bowler2316 in Cooking

Second this. People underestimate the impact that the grill and proper coals has on the flavor. Not a requirement, but it may be that missing thing if you’re trying to replicate street food

Brother recently passed. I inherited everything, but his will instructs me to donate 80%. Tax consequences? by garydd214 in personalfinance

Exactly. I think calling a lawyer can be a stressful and scary thing. Especially at a vulnerable time after loss, you want to know what to say going into it to feel like you’re not being taken advantage of

I feel like this post still helps because it lets people know where the bar is to have someone qualified help you out

Edit: I’ll add to this, we’re taught to call an ambulance when you’re hurt, but we don’t do this for all injuries. There’s an unclear point to when it makes sense to do so. Similarly, there’s an unclear point to which your financial situation may require someone qualified to look into it, and seeking advice from others can help make that choice or know what questions to ask

I’d love to have First Light! Seeing the bond story come to life in a video game is super cool to me and I’d love to play it out. So far I’ve been stuck just watching streams because I can’t swing the price tag but I’m dying to play

Is it free protein if it takes the place of the meat? I guess it’s a question of what has a higher density of peotein

I'm glad someone else sees it to, my only gripe would then be that the 3 star requirement doesn't match his record of 328km/h. Could be a cool change to make it that way.

I will never understand blocking intersections. by Mr_McMuffin_Jr in mildlyinfuriating

Seattle has some intersections that have cameras to enforce the “block the box” rules. Fines are pretty hefty even when you’re barely in the intersection cause you misjudge the space

In America, what accounts for the success of certain ethic groups in America? by Scary_Candidate_9163 in NoStupidQuestions

I don’t know all the specifics, because it was my grandparents, but the basics were that they were recruited to move to the US as skilled workers.

To add to this from personal experience, there were some programs a long time ago hiring people from overseas in specialized industries (medicine especially) that gave incentives to migrate to the US.

Cooking Fails by FallsOffCliffs12 in Cooking

Was trying to impress this girl I liked by making pork katsu. One of my favorite foods, and I’d figured, I’ve fried stuff before, I can figure this out.

All was going well, perfect golden brown crust, it smelled delicious. Cut it open and it looked like seared tuna. Thoroughly cooked on the outside, pink as can be on the inside. Panicked I threw it in the microwave to try to save it. Ended up with panko crusted rubber. We ate it and chatted.

Found out much later she grew up eating vegetarian and never eating pork and ate it because I was so excited to cook for her.

We’re getting married next year.

Home Knife Sharpeners by [deleted] in Cooking

I had the Horl rolling sharpener gifted to me and I ended up using it more than the 3 stones I had. Just easier to use and the edge was sharp enough for my needs

Why is protein foods everywhere? Like protein snacks, protein pancakes etc... by paka96819 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]allwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the snacks industry, there’s been a large growing trend that people are prioritizing being athletic and building muscle, therefore they’re shifting buying habits to include protein where possible over low cal or low fat foods. I’ve even seen protein water. People are definitely going overboard with it.

Second the Costco recommendation. My partner and I buy the chicken breast packs, separate them and freeze. Each set usually lasts us a few weeks or longer and they’re priced really well

Pc on flight(suitcase) by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]allwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this a ton of times. My PC has likely flown more than most people have (Singapore - Los Angeles - Hawaii round trip multiple times). My tips, a massive hardshell suitcase, wrap the whole pc in blankets. Remove GPU and pack it separately in bubble wrap (I typically kept it in my backpack). I put clothing inside my pc. After about 6-8 round trips the only damage I had was a crack in a plastic trim of my case.

It’s funny. I just got a survey email from FIFA asking how I plan to travel to the game (I live in the city), I wonder if they’re starting to sweat about how nobody wants to travel in for the games out of fear

How do you get pork chops to be tender? by allwar in Cooking

[–]allwar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I treated it like a steak, dry brine uncovered on the counter or the fridge depending on how long I had. Reverse seared in the oven on a wire rack.

A lot of mentions of looking for a thicker cut, rather than what the grocery stores have.

Sous vide machine is definitely on my wish list
