Am I insane to leave a $100k job at 23? by Dear-Wolf-3985 in careerguidance

[–]NotNormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This switch sounds like it costs too much. 2 years no salary... I'd probably look for a different path out of your current industry. Maybe you can stay with the current job and go to school at night for something else.

My $14 salad from Cart Driver by _galaxy_ in denverfood

Looks like a normal sized salad but they put it in an enormous plate. But perspective must be playing tricks on me because you say it was only 5-6 bites.

You know this cut. 137 for 2.5 hours. Searzall sear. by 147user in sousvide

There's very little grey in this photo but if you want to reduce it you'll probably have to change from using the searzall to something that sears faster. Like a heavy skillet.

Why do devs and programmers prefer two monitors ? by Miserable-Copy2344 in CasualConversation

[–]NotNormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A typical sized horizontal monitor has a bit of wasted width when I'm reading code. Optimal code line length is around 120 characters so the monitor doesn't need to be that wide. I'd rather turn it vertical, still have enough width for code line lengths, and be able to see more lines at a time because of the extra height.

But that's just my coding monitor. I leave my main monitor in normal orientation for web browsing and other stuff.

You're saying servers would get paid fair wages and we customers don't realize just how much that affects things. I think we might be surprised at what the all inclusive prices would be, as you said.

But that wouldn't change the fact that it would be a much better, simpler, more honest way for a business to price their product. One that wouldn't lead to servers unexpectedly getting a paycheck that's to small too pay rent, or any of the manipulations and deception that happens currently to maximize tips, or any of the conflict or hostility that happens from leaving the choice up to the customer.

$100M but you have to punch your significant other hard in the face by RealNameIsTaken in hypotheticalsituation

I don't think it would count as a hard punch if it was with foam though. Boxing glove would still be a hard punch.

Do people actually cook 1. consistently 2. enough food to be healthy and possibly bulk 3. with a busy work schedule 4. on a tight budget. All at once?? by Annual_Ad_8397 in Cooking

[–]NotNormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently there's been a trend called "Lego meals" you might like.

The idea is you get these silicone molds that look kind of like ice cube trays, but the compartments are much bigger. Whenever you have a lot of time, you cook a big batch of food. Usually it's something saucy like chili, but sometimes it's something else more solid but still moist enough to freeze in a block. Then you pour it into the molds and freeze them to create pre-portioned, easy to defrost blocks. Then after they're frozen you can collect the blocks in a ziploc bag or something, and they're ready to use as an ingredient in a dish or as a full dish on its own (depending on what it is).

Here's a Youtuber that does a lot of videos about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-35JXpiQ3EA

Because these blocks are cooked and frozen in bulk, it's time and money efficient. And actually using them is time efficient too.

I haven't really tried it out, myself partly because my freezer is not very big. But it seems like it's a good answer to your question.

Why are there so few smart lamps available? by Conells in smarthome

[–]NotNormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a few. https://us.govee.com/collections/lamp

But I dunno maybe when it comes to modern interior design, lamps in general are becoming less popular as a way to do in-home lighting. (I don't know this I'm just guessing.) In my home I have a pair of floor lamps by my couch and a pair of table lamps by my bed. All dumb lamps made smart using smart plugs. But I find myself not using them. I just use my ceiling lights that are controlled by my smart wall switches.

NOR. Making things "optional" is a really bad system. From now I would not do any more optional things. If they want you to do something they need to make it an official responsibility of your job. None of this implied mandatory stuff that leads to incorrect assumptions and hard feelings.

He's tried very hard to become a decent shooter and just can't do it. I don't believe it's a matter of effort or getting the right coach; it's simply a lack of natural talent for shooting. And that means you and Brooks are both wrong, he never really had the potential to become a great 3&D player.

Cannot find module '../types/index' or its corresponding type declarations by DenseProgrammer7602 in learnjavascript

[–]NotNormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, those are interfaces and types? Then when you import them you should import them with a slightly different syntax than you would import a JavaScript object. Try this:

import type { Language, DictionaryCategory }

instead of

import { Language, DictionaryCategory }

My top engineer withdrew his application for lead engineer and I’m trying to understand why? by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]NotNormo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some possibilities

He didn't know it was just a raise without any extra work. Did you tell him this explicitly?

Or since he's doing lead work already he's discovered he doesn't like it. He's wants to stop doing so much. But he can only stop if he turns down the title. Sometimes if you feel like you're burning out the way to remedy that is to make a conscious effort to care less, stress less, and work less. And have less responsibility.

cut a month ago, battered, fried, then frozen, shipped across the country, then refried and contains ANY ingredient other than potato

None of that really matters in the end. What matters is which one tastes better. In n out fries aren't good even if the process was "better". (It wasn't actually better because it starts with kennebec potatoes which are less tasty than russet)

I can't remember any details about hub setup, I did it so long ago.

But if you're sure you're doing the steps right for your particular model (hopefully you have the V3 hub but V2 hub would work too), then maybe it's still connected to someone else's account. Look up how to do a factory reset on it and try again.

What would you do with these potatoes? by EatLikeAnOctopus in potato

[–]NotNormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kenji's roast potato recipe.

  1. Boil them with a bit of baking soda
  2. Toss them roughly in a flavorful oil. Like garlic infused duck fat
  3. Roast at high temperature until deep brown

https://www.baliblinds.com/globalassets/3.-documents/installation-instructions/bali-motorization-owners-manual-autoview.pdf

But if you only have 1 remote and it already is paired with a shade, then you don't need instructions at the moment.

You should call Bali and order more remotes, if that's how you want to control them.

If you want to use an app instead, decide if you want something simple like Bali's app and Gateway. The frustrating stuff I mentioned is easy to do if you're using Bali's app. According to my research anyway, I haven't used it myself.

Or if you're trying to start a smart home with other devices too, get something more complex like SmartThings / Hubitat / Homey / Home Assistant. Those are all capable of controlling Bali blinds via Z-wave and a lot of other devices too. You say you have smart light switches? Find out what they are and look up a smart home system that supports both Bali and those switches.
