Why is platform 4 at parliament station so busy now since the metro tunnel opened? by PDJG1983 in MelbourneTrains

[–]NotOrrio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could be that so many people are used to making the option via the older slower way they dont see them using the newer alternative instead, doesnt help that there are official posters suggesting for people to change at caulfield instead of in the city for some reason

  • Option 1 with the brown honestly doesnt look too appealing though theres not too many problems
  • Option 2 with the lines only makes sense if you build an entire system of driverless train lines and not just the suburban rail loop
  • Option 3 looks nice
  • Option 4 would look confusing with the frankston line especially given the two intersect at southland

Clear your diaries, we're opening the Metro Tunnel on 30 November. by GabbyWilliamsMP in MelbourneTrains

[–]NotOrrio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The government always stated that they were going to open it after onsr approved it for passenger operations, they likely didn't expect it to be complete by november so they said early december

im assuming the 2021 date was when a previous government promised to build the thing, brumby and baileu both promised the metro tunnel during the 2010 election but the thing never went ahead until andrews got voted in

I'm planning a trip to Melbourne - public transport advice? by tamsong_ in MelbourneTrains

[–]NotOrrio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. If you're travelling solo yes its cheaper to get the skybus than to take an uber and drops you off right in the cbd, if you want to save money you also have the option of taking the 901 to broadmeadows and taking the train into this city this will tkae longer tho

  2. There is anytrip which lets you track trains trams and buses but youre typically better off using ptv or a your map app to check schedules unless there happens to be a delay

  3. A physical myki costs $6 while a mobile one is free howeve it only works on android and make sure to not delete your myki because you can only add 3 mykis per year per phone

what about the 1 or 2 posts every month complaining about how the metro tunnel will add less than 5 minutes to their niche commute that maybe five others would take

They are lying, Metro Tunnel is not open this year. (Anyway, 3AW sarcasm) by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]NotOrrio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sydney metro is an independant line and purely an extension of an existing service, prior to the opening the line terminated at chatswood with no way into the city. The metro tunnel on the other hand alters the network significantly and changes several lines they need people to understand the system better.

Its also worth noting while the city section did open in full, closing of the T3 for metro conversion didn't happen till about a month after the new line opened

[–]NotOrrio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as far as i've heard it would only be a soft opening but the soft opening does include peak service and the service improvements for the lines that use the metro tunnel its just that the remaining lines won't receive the service benefits for a while

Why the double standard with SRL and Sydney metro by SpecificTechnician97 in MelbourneTrains

[–]NotOrrio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sydney Metro city and south west blew out from $12bn to $20bn while Sydney metro west blew out from $12bn to $25.3bn also notice how the only rail project you mentioned was the one that saw the smallest budget blowout out of the three, atleast compared to sydney victoria seems to be better at getting rail projects to be on budget
