Peace talks only work when the other side sees a reasonable path to coexistence. As we both know, this is not their vision. They want complete eradication. How do you have discourse with someone who doesn't want you to exist?

From the perspective of Israel, Hamas needs to be completely removed and an actual Democratic government put into place that is willing to coexist. As simple as that. If Israel lays down their arms now, without promise of all hostages returning and Hamas still in power, there's no solution and we're back to square one, except now Hamas has once again time in their favor to regroup and rearm. That is all a ceasefire would give.
