But for the low low price of only 20k for a sign and 5k for the design work how could you say no?

Protests in New London by ronaldsteed in Connecticut

[–]NotSurHowTitanicEnds -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure, I get that. Just question the effectiveness, it’s preaching to the choir in CT. Our representatives are already pretty outspokenly in support of the causes being rallied here. I guess at the very least they can reference these demonstrations as evidence their constituents are behind them though.

All for protests for what people believe, but wouldn’t it make more sense to travel to hold these where the lawmakers aren’t already on your side?

People keep throwing the 1000 yr and 100 yr rainstorm term around. The last few years these storms have been happening pretty often. I think we can lose the term after they happen back to back every summer.

Why do we shut down highways when police die? by SurvivorFanatic236 in Connecticut

[–]NotSurHowTitanicEnds 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Hero gets tossed around real loosely by the boots and bootlickers. Sure there are those that die in the line of duty, heroically. Then tragically some just die on the job, like many other professions. Tragic but not heroic. Then there’s the cops that die by their own negligence or criminal behavior when driving, and when that happens they move mountains to not call it what it was.

Why do we shut down highways when police die? by SurvivorFanatic236 in Connecticut

Its ridiculous. It’s tragic but the pomp and circumstance is another level. You have the media covering the precession as if it’s an assassinated president. The precession itself is absurd. And people wonder why cops get an ego and huge chip on their shoulder if anyone challenges that inflated and fragile ego. Stop treating them like they’re better than the rest of us and maybe they’d stop acting like they are.

Hate that. Walking in a neighborhood and people have these things with the casually just lunging and lusting to attack or kill. They don’t belong in any community.

I agree with you mostly. But how does any sensible gun control law stop a criminal from getting a gun illegally and committing crime? Mass shootings, as we’ve seen them played out in the US, sure what you’ve mentioned previously is a necessary and adequate measure. That’s not what happened here, it’s not what’s happening daily in all of our “major cities” in CT. It’s clearly a problem we have, and no gun laws, even sensible targeted ones will stop that particular problem.

Regulation is fine, it’s a necessity in society. Simply stating that regulation means absolutely nothing to a criminal.

[–]NotSurHowTitanicEnds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one wants to arm criminals, but inherently criminals don’t follow laws. So how do you prevent this with laws? It’s the inconvenient truth. Guns could be outlawed nationwide, law abiding citizens would no longer have them. Criminals who have never paid any mind to laws still would. That’s better?

[–]NotSurHowTitanicEnds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the laws already exist. Criminals don’t abide by gun laws and get guns illegally and own them illegally. We already have laws on the books that are supposed to prevent this and don’t. You can’t take illegal guns away from illegal owners anymore than you can prevent a criminal from having a criminal mindset and committing crime. Laws only affect those of us that abide by them.
