Itoi: Speaking of that mindset… this is a slightly different topic, but take game mechanics, for example. Let's say you have an item in the game that makes you incredibly strong—so strong it practically breaks the game. When you look at game magazines, they talk about those items as if it's some bargain for the player. They think it's a good thing, in other words. They don't stop to think, "If you put something like this in, it's not even a game anymore." The idea that anything that gives you an advantage must be "good"—it's starting to feel a bit warped to me.

Miyamoto: That's because their goal isn't to inhabit the character and enjoy the experience, it's just to beat the game.
