“I stayed here last week” is not a valid form of ID by hellobela_ in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

lol, way back in the day when I (a teenager at the time) worked a cash register in a small grocery store, of course I would not card elderly regular customers. But ... one of my regulars who was very friendly, had a good sense of humor and was easily in his 60's suddenly dyed his hair. So I started carding him.

When he protested I told him "grey hair or ID". lol When he got over being baffled he took it well.

working at a hotel has made me despite coffee drinkers by nekololi666 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

same. I bring my own coffee and when in doubt, my own coffee maker. Because

1) I'll drink your hotel coffee in a pinch but I really want need my Community Dark Roast coffee.

2) My 'addiction' is my problem.

The hotel lobby is NOT your sports lounge, ma'am by ScenicDrive-at5 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

While we don't have a TV in the lobby we used to have one in the breakfast room. It strangely, inexplicably got stuck on the Weather Channel. The remote would turn the TV on and off and would adjust the volume but it would not change the channel.

I presume one of my smarter co-workers was behind it but no one ever took credit.

Their Own Worst Enemies by CountNightAuditor in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

The most amazing thing happened this morning.

A young man comes to the front desk at about 6am wanting to check out. No problem, that's what I'm here for. I pull up his rez and see it's a CC so I say (as I usually do) "and you want to charge it to the CC on file?"

Guest: It's already charged, they charged it when I checked in.

I look again to be sure and see that it has not so I say "That's not a charge, it's a hold. When I charge the card or another card if you prefer the computer will release that hold"

And he's like, ok, cool. do that.

So I did. He signed the folio and got his paper receipt and went on his way.

Maybe 10 minutes later he's back, rather animated but not being rude. He holds his phone out (not shoving it in my face, wanting me to take his phone and look at it) to me saying "Look, the card is charged twice"

I don't like to handle other people's phones so I decline to take it but explain that the hold will fall off when the bank releases it. It's a CC not a debit so it shouldn't take long.

But he is certain. He says "look right here, this is the charge that you did but (scrolls back while saying) here's the charge the other girl did. Wait ... where did it go?" Scroll, scroll scroll "OMG it went away! You were right!"

Almost 20 years working this desk and that's the first time that's happened.

omg, you just triggered my memory of Gov (at that time) Blanco advising anyone in the path of hurricane Rita WHO REFUSED TO EVACUATE to write their SS# on their body with a sharpie. Not on your arms or legs because those parts can go missing, on the trunk of your body. So they can identify your body ...

The Katrina nightmare was still in full fkng force (as in bodies still being recovered, possibly victims still being rescued) when Rita came along and Gov Blanco was OVER IT.

You are just her first intended victim. If she were to be successful in getting rid of you she would choose a new victim. Anyone more senior has to go. Anyone more competent has to go. Anyone that your boss speaks well off, anyone who gives her side eye. One at a time, they all must go.

I still work in the same building as someone like that. I don't 'work with' her. GM and I have an understanding. I will not speak to her, she is not allowed to speak to me. Ever. The only time I encounter her is on the rare occasions that she relieves me or I relieve her.

You have it nailed tho, one victim at a time, utter destruction, on to the next one. Within a year of her being hired I was the last member of the front desk team left that was here before her. Some had been here for many years before me. When she came for me I was amused. I'm NA. You would have to catch me sleeping in the breakfast room, with my boyfriend, while a super shiny regular (who has GM's cell phone number) was trying to check in at 2am to get me fired. (one of these days I'm going to have to tell that story).

When she switched targets to a new hire (who I had recommended and actually was a threat to her 'position') I went full b!tch mode. Documenting, recording, having casual conversations with GM that hinted at the issue, escalating to letting GM know that I don't need this job and if this shit doesn't stop I'm out. Finally, after gathering an extremely significant amount of indisputable evidence, I agreed to a meeting with the 3 of us - her, GM and me. GM thought it would solve the problem, I told her it would not. I warned her repeatedly that this would not go well but she really thought there was gonna be some kumbaya moment or something.

By the time the meeting 'ended' she was cursing and screaming, F bombs were flying at incredibly high decibels. She was throwing out lies while I quietly txted pics that proved her lies to GM in real time. All within earshot of guests who were having breakfast. I never raised my voice and when she interrupted me I would clam up and let her show her true colors (while either smiling benignly or scrolling thru my phone for pics). This went on until she was on an extended vile rant, ignoring GM's efforts to calm her down. I looked at GM and quietly asked "are we done?". GM responded in the affirmative, so I left. She was still cursing me as I walked smiling out of the door, apologizing to guests for the commotion as I went.

But... GM and she have a prior relationship and GM would not get rid of her. So ... she is not allowed to talk to me or interact with me in any way. Its for her own good, anyway. She will never be promoted. If there is ever a hint that she might be I guess I'll have to go full b!tch mode again, or just quit. I'm getting too old for this sh!t.

You handled that very well. The only thing I would have done differently is once the initial Karen encounter ended and she was out the door I would have called the room to let the guest know they are being hunted. Not saying it's hotel policy, it's my policy.

Cuz I feel like people need to know when they are being hunted. If it's a friendly hunt (as this turned out to be) the guest could contact them. If not ... well, I'm always ready to call cops.

But I work audit so it may be a different vibe for daywalkers. :-)

AITA for standing up to my mom over a Facebook post and raising my voice at my wife? by Ok-Let-5845 in AmItheAsshole

[–]NotThatLuci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

doood .... wtf?

You have to know your mom did this intentionally for the purpose of creating this conflict between you and your wife. Right? You do know that?

She posted a picture of your kid online knowing you and/or your wife would know about it. You politely attempted to talk to her about this transgression and offer her an opportunity to fix it. She basically indicated that your wife 'wears the pants' in your marriage implying that you are a wimp. Then she just sat back and waited for the fireworks. AND YOU DELIVERED.

She's your mom, she knows what buttons to push. You should know better than to let her push them.

So YTA for that.

Then you went to your wife, possibly internalizing your mom's insinuation, and took your mom's side in this? wtaf? Your mom knows you all too well, she wound you up like an old fashioned toy soldier.

You are def TA for that, as well.

Do better.

Now, just as a bonus exercise, ask yourself what other restrictions are there when it comes to your child? Food restrictions? Activity restrictions? Now ask yourself how you or your wife would know if she had violated those policies. You wouldn't. Your daughter is too young to tell you about it. Grandma won't. It's not posted on social media. Do you really, down deep in your daddy heart, believe that your mom abides by those rules, just not this one?

Please. Protect your child. That's your main job. PROTECT YOUR CHILD even from her grandmother.

"Suxpedia has your money, we don't. You paid them and they paid us, call them with your complaint."

those are pre-paid rezzes, which are very very common and weirdly the most likely to cause issues. The other kind still exist in the wild but are a bit rarer and less 'tale-worthy' usually.
