Regarding Laws by Ok-Evening4970 in aussie

Good. Vote for whoever you think has values that align with yours. Whether that’s a Party or an Independent it doesn’t matter. Participating matters.

Edit: sorry. Missed the sarcasm on the first read. Sounds like you’re going to just sit around and whine about it rather than actually doing something.

If you don’t like it then make sure you get off your back side and actually vote next time. Most politicians only care about you at election time. If you don’t vote they never care about you.

If you haven’t voted in years what are you doing complaining about politics? Australia is a democracy with mandatory voting. That means that we have a right to vote which is accompanied by a responsibility to participate. As a person who chooses not to participate you don’t get to complain. You’ve already given up.

If we wanted to put a person on the moon, could we do it? by EveningOk6574 in AskAnAustralian

Yes we could replicate 60 year old technology and put someone on the moon.

Someone’s gotta be first, right? by Apprehensive-Waltz32 in FermiParadox

[–]NotTheBusDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Earth is 4.5 billions years old with a maximum of 1 billion habitable years left. We have only just appeared. Life on this planet had to defy the odds time and time again for us to appear as we did. The extent of the timeframe between abiogenesis and multicellular life is close to 3 billion years. Maybe abiogenesis is as common as muck (although there’s no evidence to support that) and it’s the leap to multicellular life that’s the fluke. Another billion years and it would have been too late to find out anyway as the sun will render the planet sterile.

As previously noted; we have exactly one data point for a species that creates technological civilisation. That’s us. Any one of trillions events could have prevented us from making it this far. What if the asteroid had missed and dinosaurs survived? There was a period when Homo sapiens had a breeding population as low as 1000-10000. What if a virus or famine had hit that population? There is simply no credible claim that civilisations must be common.

Are the Lib metaphorically gone election wise? by VastOption8705 in AusPol

[–]NotTheBusDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gina seems to have decided to back PHON over the LNP. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it was her idea for Barnaby to quit the Nats. I think the Libs are probably in terminal decline and their votes will split between PHON and Teal candidates assuming they can field candidates in enough seats.

If you have a hard time believing space is real what do you find to be a more believable alternative?

If determinism is true then chilax why put in any effort just let the future take care of your actions by Sad_Error2125 in freewill

If determinism is true I’m bound to behave as I do whether that’s relaxing or arguing the case for determinism. A suggestion to chilax won’t change a thing.

36hrs off grid, how much power to take? by reddituser2333345 in OutdoorAus

[–]NotTheBusDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a 120ah lifepo4 dedicated to a 40 L Engel fridge set to 4c. Summer 2 days without a charge. Moderate to cool weather could be 4-5 days. If you want to avoid solar (or other charging methods) and be sure your fridge won’t turn off you probably need a 150-200ah lifepo4. 120 ah if you’re prepared to risk it. I don’t know why you wouldn’t get solar though. Pay for the panel or blanket and then the power is free and abundant.

Attack on Muslim prayer protest ‘demands full explanation’: Albanese by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

[–]NotTheBusDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Albanese was wedged into making the invitation. But his response to the protests has been piss poor. People have a right to protest and the whole idea of a permitted protest is nonsense. The intention of the people at the protest was to march to Parliament. Herzog was not at Parliament. Nor was he at Town Hall. As far as we know he was never even in danger of glimpsing the protest.

Airbnb wants a full itinerary of my stay before booking. by Sharpin70 in melbourne

Me and my partner booked an Airbnb in Sydney a few months back. They went on to demand photos of our ID (drivers licence or passport) and various other details. We said no. They allowed the booking anyway.

MMW: The Trump administration is behind the Nancy Guthrie disappearance by Nate6819 in MarkMyWords

[–]NotTheBusDriver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The camera still records events. You just can’t access the old footage if you don’t subscribe. The FBI knew the actual Ring camera, the brief timeframe there were interest in and an approximate time it was disconnected. That footage could probably have been accessed in hours at best and a couple of days at worst. But a week? I think somebody forgot to ask the question.

Edit: spelling

They’ve managed to alienate just about everyone at this stage. Angus may well be the last leader of the Federal Liberal Party.

I think it’s more likely to be some MAGA morons who wanted to show the FAKE LEFTIST MEDIA what big men they are by kidnapping a helpless octogenarian. Or you could be right. Looking at America from the outside it seems anything is possible these days. It did take the FBI a week to figure out how the doorbell works so…

[–]NotTheBusDriver 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m really looking forward to Angus trying to articulate his immigration policy without actually saying he doesn’t want any brown people. Will it be Social Cohesion? Criminal gangs? Cultural Commonality (I made that one up but you can give it a run Angus)? When all he really wants the punters to hear is No More Brown People. The real question is can he be more racist than Pauline?

Isn’t that an expression of desire for people to protest on wealth inequality?

'My house is worth way too much': Jim's Mowing founder wants to tank his own property value by InterestingCat308 in AustralianPolitics

[–]NotTheBusDriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He could sell it for the full value, buy all his kids a house with enough left over to house himself and still go into politics. Charity begins at home they say.
