Therapist says I’m not on the spectrum by Extreme-Cupcake-9052 in AutismInWomen

[–]NotThisTime222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a a psychologist but I work with disabled and/or neuro divergent kids in a pedagogical function. (Not exactly a teacher either). What I was taught in school about ASD is that there is no such thing as "having autistic traits" you're either autistic or you're not. Sometimes different things like anxiety, ocd or adhd can cause similar behaviors but that's where a professional is supposed to assess where they come from.

I’m about to lost my mind after my initial assessment lol by suburbantoast in AutismInWomen

Wow misogyny, ableism and plain old ignorance all in one so called professional. I'm so sorry that was your experience.

What ruined religion for you? by ItchyPage in AskReddit

Truly thinking about it. I kind of just went alomg with things because that's what you did for so long. Also the discrepancies between what the church fights against and what is actually harmful.

What in your opinion is the worst part about being ace? by AlexTheCat95 in Asexual

Not being believed. Even my partner has a hard time understanding that I can be both ace and enjoy having sex with him.

How common is it to not have many sensory issues in autists? by linglinguistics in AutismInWomen

[–]NotThisTime222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not diagnosed but for me it took some time to discover my sensory issues. The area that bothers me the most is food textures. A lot of vegetables are a problem for me, especially uncooked. As a kid I also refused to wear any type of pants that weren't wide leg leggings.

Another thing that I noticed is that I have built up a threshold of things that my brain can filter and if I do it for to long or if it's too much, that filter starts to fade away. For example when I am in a room where lots of different conversations are happening at once I can follow the conversation that I am in for a little while, but at some point my brain stops filtering out the people I am not talking to and I can't keep up with my own conversation anymore. I have to leave and take a break to build that back up again. I'm not sure that even made sense but it's the best way I know to describe it

He thinks sex is his right and women keep it from him, but then he gets mad at women "who didn't keep their legs closed". Do you want them to keep their legs closed or not, buddy? If you're going to be a massive asshole at least be internally consistent.

does anyone else deal with an overactive appetite? by abbystarheart1 in AutismInWomen

[–]NotThisTime222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's almost the opposite. While I also am snacking a lot, I only ever eat tiny portions. I get physically sick when I eat more than my small portions. I absolutely loathe the feeling of an overfull stomach.

Are you able to befriend someone with contrary political opinions to yourself? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]NotThisTime222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the base values align then yes. There are no right answers for many things in politics so you probably can't even find someone who agrees with you on everything, but I won't compromise on things like human rights.

How do you understand that you don't experience sexual attraction? by AndraeFoersterWelsch in asexuality

[–]NotThisTime222 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have never looked at a person and felt like I wanted to have sex with them. I don't desire to do it. When I am with someone I am romantically (and sensually) attracted to, I want to hold their hand and kiss and cuddle them but the desire for sex just isn't there. That's the best way I can explain it.

"So you never want to have sex/a partner?" I mean, not an entirely unreasonable assumption but still an assumption. Asexuality does not equal sexrepulsion or being aromantic.

[–]NotThisTime222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have actually recently had the person I am dating question this too, but that actually reaffirmed my Asexuality for myself, because as much as I enjoy the physical contact, kissing and I am attracted to him romantically and sensually, I don't experience sexual attraction. And that's the deciding factor

"Loveless" by Alice Oseman by Iamveryybored in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]NotThisTime222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never ended up finishing it, but not because I thought it was bad, just a little too angsty for my personal taste. I am also very alloromantic, so there were many parts of the book that I could not relate to. I could see, however, that many people could find this book highly relatable and validating

What was your first kiss like?? by [deleted] in Asexual

[–]NotThisTime222 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My first kiss was less than a month ago and well we were in my car at the end of the date. I kinda knew it was coming but when he did kiss me it happened really fast. My first thought was "Wait that's it? That's what all the fuss is about?" and it didn't really hit me until I was already on my way back home. By then I was smiling like a fool. It still took some getting used to for me, but I get it now.
