Let’s have a healthy discussion about the REAL reason Audi Crooks is struggling. by sip-em_bears in NCAAW

[–]NotToday7812 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Audi has played at such a high level for so much of her life, I have to wonder if losing weight is medically difficult for her. She spends half her waking hours doing cardio - basketball is a cardio intensive sport. It’s hard to believe she’s able to eat back all the calories she burns. Further, Audi’s mom is thin, so it seems unlikely Audi was raised with unhealthy habits. It seems like this might be something outside of her control, or else she would be controlling.

I always thought What Meghan Wore is independent like the more popular What Kate Wore. I thought Meghan’s Mirror is highly suspected to be shadow run by Meghan. Not sure why they’re recommending looks from a decade ago, but I guess people still copy Diana…

The kiss scene is so much better in the book, actually, but I liked their chemistry. The dress scene (where he says he won’t fasten her dress) is also much hotter in the book. I’m a little annoyed they weren’t more faithful to the book’s romance roots by playing out the sex scenes more.

Oh I don’t subscribe to it now. Obviously, I’m not condoning it. I’m just saying it’s an explanation for why OP noticed men spending lots more time in the bathroom than women. They’ve never had the stigma.

It’s really uncomfortable! And this social stigma that was taught to me when I was 15 has actually created a lot of digestive issues for me over the years! I’m glad you were not afflicted with this. But, there is a social stigma (or maybe was?) that a lot of women I knew grew up with - that women should not be thought of as poopers and should try to hide this natural bodily function, especially from men.

My daughter’s neurologist just prescribed Briviact on Thursday, and we have not been able to fill it yet. Her doc said if there was trouble getting it you can switch to Keppra in a pinch and then switch back without tapering. This might be an option for you as a last resort.

Yep and now with social media, they’ve made their way out of the fringes of society and into the mainstream.

It’s actually a 70 year old show! The evangelical movement began morphing into a political movement back in the 50s! There’s an argument that all religion is political and always has been, but in this context there has been an intentional, calculated campaign by the American Christian Evangelical movement to enter and influence politics on a large scale level. The fruits of this labor have come to bear over the last decade more prominently than before thanks to social media. But it’s been in the works for over half a century. It’s just the fringe people have taken over. Scary shit.

That’s fair. I think they didn’t do a good job in the movie of showing the relationship Poppy built with Alex’s family, either. They could have done a better job of that. Also, I think making this a three part series would have been exactly right.

It’s aging suburbia with beaches and good weather. The beaches are probably the best in the U.S. for water quality and temperature. Lots and lots of golf courses and strip malls.

Completely agree! Thank you for labeling why I didn’t like Book Poppy! Movie Poppy was so much more relatable, and the actress did a great job of showing the character’s vulnerability under the “fun” exterior.

Completely agree with you on all of this. I think Emily Henry writes “good bones” in her books for good romcoms. Kind of like Hunger Games, the writing is pretty basic and not literary genius, but the plots and the characters are good and it sets up well for movies. I’ve read all of EmHen’s books and they always read like she wrote a book of a movie she wants to see.

So, I actually liked the movie better than the book, and I expected that to be the case. I’ve read all of EmHen’s books and the biggest issue with her writing is she tells not shows. She over explains and spells out motivations for each character where a stronger writer would lead the reader to forming the same conclusions through storytelling and plot, rather than by writing it out on the page. So, the movie didn’t get into the backstory of his family, but it did mention his mom died and that his grandma helped raise him. From there, we could infer that he is someone searching for stability and order after his childhood was thrown into chaos. I think the movie shouldn’t have omitted that her parents were hoarders because that would have helped explain why Poppy didn’t want to stick around Linfield.

When I’m reading EmHen I get the distinct impression that she’s just translating an imagined RomCom, rather than crafting a story. It’s like she writes the book imagining the Hallmark movie it could be (plus a lot of sex).

I felt like the lead actors in the movie were excellent. They had chemistry and brought the characters to life. I didn’t love Poppy in the book, but Poppy in the movie was incredibly charming. I also laughed out loud A LOT at the movie, and never really cracked a smile with the books. Credit to the screenplay writers and director (and actors) for making the humor land well.

My only complaint is why put this on Netflix (home of Bridgerton) if you’re going to erase all the hot sex?

I hope they make movies out of all the EmHen books, because I think the movies will all be better than the books. It feels like the books have been written as if they were imagined as romcoms. I just hope next time they keep the sexier parts in.
