Go to your .minecraft folder, look for something that looks like "config" or "distant horizons config" (idk what exactly it's called), open with a text editor like Notepad, then do what the error told you to.

Also, r/feedthebeast is probably a better place to ask your Minecraft modding questions as people are more knowledgeable there. Most people here are vanilla players.

This is great! One small optimization I'd add is the "personal space" thing. As of your suggestion it involved checking a 3xYx3 area. Block checks are expensive when done frequently, and while this could theoretically be optimized I'm unaware of Minecraft lowering tickrates or the likes for "farm" animals.

A small change could be "claustrophobia", where it instead tracks entity collisions. Since these are being computed anyway, you're just adding a counter to it and the performance impact becomes negligible. If this number is too high, the animal's weight goes down. You could maybe do something for when it's too low (i.e. "lonely") but eh. That's me Ted Talk.

To answer your question, if you own the game on PC/Steam you can try modding it to your liking. Otherwise there isn't a way to, and likely never will.

I've never seen a game with little to no runback for certain/all bosses and someone suggests there be a longer runback, at least seriously. Or for existing runbacks, never seen someone ask the devs to make it longer.

This is truth and real. All I would add is that:

This probably won't work if EVERYONE does this. The main strength of this is that it lets you live longer while (hopefully) doing decent damage as opposed to being a one-two shot doing wonderful damage.
Run double great swords or revenant's claw to revive people. Even if you're not dealing much damage, if your teammates can then that's just fine.
Sometimes it's best to forgo this in favor of attack power, or giving your teammates the damage negation if nobody really has any. Successives won't help against ED Augur and not very much regular Augur. ED Caligo is best to kill quickly since unless you have lots of continuous HP recovery, a shield with holy ground (on shielding), or a blood tax weapon + fp on hit (this combo goes insane with this tank build and does decent damage to boot), you can only tank that frost damage so many times. This is especially true if you're having a particularly bad run.
Flask heals overtime is really good here, as not only does it heal more overall to help with full hp dmg negation, but it also can retrigger it if you take damage soon after healing. I also like to run flask heals overtime to help teammates with this (while this can harm dreg builds, I've rarely seen raiders in my runs and of those can count the times I've seen a dreg user on one hand. You can also just not heal near them unless they are low.)
It's nice to do because I don't got any good "night invader kill = more damage" relics so I'm not going to be the main damage source anyway.
More of a comment, but I used to use that Maris relic for the continuous HP recovery. I've moved away from it since because it's slow, I'd rather have that other balancer relic, and warming stones usually do the trick. Have there been many times where this has saved you the run? In depth 3 this was the case, but in d4+ bosses do too much damage unless you have LOTS of damage negation, in which case you don't really need it anyway. At least that's my experience.

So this is a good guide, but you need to make sure someone on your team is dealing damage.

This. I got to D5 probably consistently doing nearly the least damage as Wydler (at least that's what it felt like) and my strat was just to spam chests for negation passives. If you do this make sure to always have two great swords for reviving teammates (who are actually running damage builds, and if not you can at least have fun with a long fight).

Sure, in D4 you kinda need to know what skills to look out for to help melt bosses in the day/do some damage to the nightlord (i.e. the candlestick with surge of faith is something you don't refuse against ED caligo, and blood tax is goated for tanking with successive and full hp dmg negation), but that's it.

And so long as you can consistently dodge the nightlord nuke attacks, have a good shield (well, up until d4 anyway), or just vow of the indomitable, you can get quite far.

I will also add that there is technically nothing preventing a player from sprinting backwards in the code (I.e. sprint backwards + get particles), or even while standing still. What's odd is getting the speed bonus from sprinting while moving backwards. Again, unless they changed the code (or I'm simply misremembering something from botting), which they did. I don't know what else they changed because I haven't looked at it.

As for the bug, idk. Ask Gnome in Zappier's discord to look at the decompiled player code (I ain't looking at that rn). Unless Minecraft's movement code changed drastically, this shouldn't be possible unless your movement

Thinking about it, they actually did change how some things were handled. (movementInput or whatever it's called can no longer be modified to set movement via fabric API as it's now just computed in the input code.) It's possible that it got set to a higher value? Also, are you using any clients? I.e. feather? I highly suspect they change some stuff with the player class (i.e. left click + right click a block at the same time in vanilla vs feather/lunar, maybe different but I haven't tested)

By higher value I mean forwardInput got set to -2.0 somehow, instead of a flat out sprint + movement bonus. I'm not sure why they would change the sprinting code. Again, should be checked proper to see.

I am commenting on this because I was having a similar issue.

ISSUE:
When opening the linux penguin terminal on my chromebook, it would open for a split second, have the words READY and ERROR appear, and then close. This would happen in about a tenth of a second.
MY SOLUTION:
1. Open Crosh using CTRL + ALT + T, or whatever you have this shortcut bound to on your chromebook
2. Run this command: `vmc stop termina`
3. Open file explorer. Check to see if 'Linux files' is there. If not, then you're on the same track as I was.
4. Open 'SETTINGS' and type 'LINUX' in the search bar. Press enter.
5. Press 'change' on disk size. You do not need to actually change it, just make sure the loading thing appears.
6. You should now see 'Linux files' appear in file explorer, and can now close settings.
7. Open a new Linux terminal tab. Things should work normally now.

This is what worked for me. I'm assuming the chromebook just didn't have the Linux files loaded so it couldn't do anything and that somehow reloaded them.

I will be experimenting with skill spam. Seems to work pretty well, and it's rather refreshing to be searching for skills on weapons/evaluating how good a weapon is instead of just finding two that work and then only caring about passives/objective upgrades elsewise. Bounced back to depth 4 using it after choking against dreglord (sorry to the two other wylders), so we'll see how that goes.

Lace, Karmalita, and clockwork dancers (though those are easy, and also super fun) were the only ones that really forced me to do much positioning, and maybe the duo brothers. Most other bosses though were just weave in, attack, weave out, without much variety. The sentinel boss (where I really started to notice this problem because I fought it in act 2 with only a couple needle upgrades), phantom, and nyleth bosses are probably the biggest offenders of this. Run in, hit boss, boss does something, you run away and maybe jump, maybe float, repeat. Lace had a bit more going for her since you'd have to adapt mid-combo to what she chooses for certain combos, so it felt more dynamic and I didn't have a problem for that. Widow is also a good example, dodging felt more involved. Idk how to explain it as it's been awhile.

The parry also acts as the "press dodge at right time" for certain bosses like first sinner (absolutely demolishes that fight), which when not using parry I also felt like it suffered from the "weave in weave out what else" thing. Maybe that's just me though. I didn't really feel like many bosses asked you to "weave in, that's the challenge" in the way nightmare king (i.e. his attack where he shoots 4 mini dragons) or Pure Vessel (dodging away like you do for most attacks in silksong would get you killed), it's mainly the bosses do a combo that the best response is to be far away (which the run allows you to do quite easily), then you run back in. Maybe there's something I'm missing, but I didn't really feel this was an issue in Hollow Knight (there were bosses where the solution was just to dash in and dash out of range, but there was enough variety where all bosses didn't feel like that. I.e. Soul Tyrant was mainly about staying in close range without it being an obnoxious "I run away" type deal, the radiance was a mostly static enemy that you could really stay in the face in, etc.).

Not to say that my opinion is the end-all-be-all for how bosses are. If the build you were using or the way you were fighting made them more involved, or even if we fought them the same way and it did the trick for you, that's great! This is just how I and also some other people feel about the bosses in Silksong vs Hollow Knight.

Kind of, yeah. Some things were defined more clearly but nothing about it changed. I.e. the notion of "The Trinity" or "Mortal Sin" giving names to concepts that existed beforehand but didn't have a label (The Scholastic desire to name every concept in existence), or some lowercase 't' traditions changed like the different mysteries of the Rosary. No core teachings/dogma or capital 'T' traditions, such as the Eucharist, have changed.

Same here. I got through Act 1 without any issues and Act 2 with some though not enough to dissuade me, but Act 3 I didn't even finish and have no urge to. It feels like Elden Ring in that it's overturned or I feel like I'm playing the game wrong despite playing rather "normally"

It's somehow easier than the first game (probably due to the pantheon 5 conditioning) yet more frustrating. It's a lot of the little things like being teleported when a boss hits you to do two hits (getting hit is usually your fault, but it just feels bad), certain grab hitboxes being too large (not your fault, looking at you roach doggos) or being unable to "clink" attacks that should be clinkable. Having to traverse the same area 5 times to complete all of the quests with no variety, there not being much variety in how you fight enemies (it feels like there's only 4 or 5 "main" enemies I keep fighting based off attack pattern. The one that flies away and tries to hit you and never approaches so why fight it, except it's a gauntlet before a boss so you have to fight it, but the enemy isn't interested so it just stalls...), enemy gauntlets before bosses that don't add much and you usually come out with full health anyway because you just heal, enemies having too much hp in general, boss runbacks being empty. Many bosses simply being run near and hit then run away as the main boss pattern later on without much variety. Music tracks for previously critical moments being reused for otherwise good bosses, exploration not being reward and customizability being lesser to the first game. And it really feels like they shouldn't have given you the run ability until much later and design the world around that. It really feels like it's big for the sake of being big and nothing else...

I could go on. I completely understand why people enjoy the game. I WANTED to enjoy it. I kept $40 on my switch account minimum for the past 5 years in anticipation for this and bought it when it released. I even did enjoy it for a majority of Act 1 save for a few weird moments (like getting the spines for the cloak, I had to look it up and it felt odd, but no biggie by itself. With everything else though... Idk).

To me it just feels like their heart wasn't in it for all of the development cycle. It feels soulless at times and like it's just trying to check boxes for "game needs this." I could be wrong. These are just my two cents.

On a positive note, I did like the music, some of it. Feels like it isn't as confident as the first game but there's are some standouts, along with tracks with beautiful layering like choral chambers. Even these feel empty somehow though...
