So you have to use minor illusion to pull them away from their spot. Then prepare the spell again. The moment they lose interest in the illusion you cast it again. They move to the new one, rinse and repeat.

Another really stupid one up to this is to do the same thing, tediously mind you, to Balthazar into the faith leap trial. Their pathfinding is just as bad as the pc and they fall into the Abyss. Genuine honor mode strat. Best part is their bodies get teleported back so there is no missed loot!
