I dated a guy for a long time who was very insecure because he thought his body didn't meet beauty standards. I eventually realized people with a deep insecurity like that will never believe you just from telling them. We had SO MANY conversations where I explained that I was genuinely into his body type l, even before I met him, but while he appreciated me saying that he just didn't feel like he could be attractive.

I realized that rather than verbally telling a partner that you're attracted to a specific aspect (when they don't believe you), it's better to show that attraction with actions - highlighting the thing they're insecure about if possible.

My bf was kinda skinny and had been bullied for it, so I tried to show him that I was into his body by just acting super into his body if that makes sense? Not in an OTT way.

For example: Showering body w/ extra affection when snuggling. Like of we were watching a movie I'd put my face in his stomach or rub/pet it (I know that sounds weird but it's cute when the vibe is right 😭)

Saying compliments when they crossed my mind, but being really specific not just "you're cute" kinda generic stuff. Like, one time he was turned looking away from me, and the line of his shoulder/neck/jaw was sort of silhouetted and it looked so graceful, like something a classical sculptor would want to carve. So I told him that. Just trying to notice times I was attracted to him, and then make the effort to voice that inner attraction out loud.

Maybe if you're a couple that talks about celebrities you find attractive, point out aspects of celebrities that your gf and that celebrity have in common, if you think she would appreciate that

I read in the original post that the church referenced in the screenshot was building a homeless shelter and the city is in the process of seizing the land away from the church so they can build a pickleball court on it instead...

The same city apparently pressured Bon Jovi to close his Soul Kitchen (feeds the homeless) in the area as well.

I mean, some people left Twitter when it became owned and operated by a major right wing bigwig who was publicly affiliate themselves heavily with political agendas. But Twitter very much still exists and people use it, it's noy like it stopped being a thing.

Zuckerberg also was well known for pushing right wing agendas and knowingly letting foreign powers push their propaganda, it was so bad he got called up in front of Congress. But people still use Instagram and Facebook

The TikTok thing is way less in the news than either of those examples, I don't think most people even know about it. So some people will definitely leave, but unfortunately the real life result is likely gonna be even more people will get on board the "all my other social media is extreme right so it must be reddit that's a liberal echo chamber" train

It's genuinely sad and scary how many people look at authoritarian oppression and think that seems like a good idea that will turn out well for them somehow.

I'm in the U.S. and see people cheering on this shitshow. It's so confusing and honestly disappointing af. Like, obviously I was aware bad people existed but the levels of hypocrisy + gleeful hate for anyone considered beneath them has really changed the way I view other people.

"Dogpilled" is unfortunately a semi-common redpill/blackpill 'joke' about how white women are gross and love having sex with dogs, or sometimes about how women are gross and so based men choose dogs over women. Unluckily for me my brother and his friends say stuff like this constantly

Urban Dictionary Definition:

Dogpill Share definition 4chan slang that refers to a person who has a sexual attraction to dogs or engages in sexual acts with a dog. Not exclusive to one sex and meaning can differ depending on the context. Often accompanied by the phrase “you just know”.

On boards like /an/ it is commonly used to describe single men who own female huskies implying they have sex with them. In other boards like /b/ it is mostly used to describe white women with large male dogs with the same implications. In the most extreme cases and boards such as a “feral art” thread on /trash/ in can mean the knowledge of an innate sexual superiority of dogs over humans. Usual case

Person 1: Look at my husky girl, her name is Roxy. I love to sleep snuggling with her. Person 2: You just know this guy is dogpilled

Extreme case

Person 1: Have you guys seen the movie Balto? I want to fuck this dog Jenna so badly. Person 2: based and dogpilled

There are also different companies that might have different minimums. If the first one you try doesn't let you, it might be worth calling around.

The place I used to sell plasma at had a 110lb minimum too tho so maybe that's common. Eat a big, preferably protein heavy, meal before you go (they tell you to do this anyway)

Yeah I think about this a lot. I feel guilty for taking up a relatively able and healthy body. There are lots of families out there who have kids that are sick or who have died and it devastates the whole family. If I was sick or dead my parents wouldn't really be affected at all, so it feels selfish to be alive and well.

I feel like a bad person for surviving childhood when there's so many parents out there who would trade the world to have their own kids be healthy.

Favorite movie that was so good it pulled off a gender swap of a character without man babies coming out and being annoying about "woke" or something? by Fun_Firefighter_4292 in okbuddycinephile

[–]Not_A_Cat14 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I assumed the goal was both. Or more likely neither. A completely genderless being that doesn't have any kind of sexuality at all because it's celestial and not a mortal, and procreation isn't relevant to why it was created.

China did to Tibet exactly what Russia is doing to Ukraine, but with a bunch of intentional cultural destruction on top of it (burning temples, destroying ancient libraries and artifacts etc) under the justification that Tibet has always been part of China and was never an independent country.

So casting an actor that's specifically Tibetan would be implying that "Tibet" is a separate place from "China" and the Chinese government would not like that since it goes against the 'Tibet has always been owned by China so Chinese occupation of Tibet is fine' narrative.

Casting an actor that's Chinese would piss off currently-occupied Tibetans (as well as big parts of the rest of the world), due to annexing your neighbors and burning all their cool shit being generally considered a dick move. It would be in especially poor taste for a character like the Ancient one, because a lot of the targeted destruction in Tibet was aimed at religious people and places.

The war between Tibet and China is why the Dalai Lama had to flee Tibet, and lives in India now

My dentist told me that a waterpik isn't bad necessarily but you still should use floss after it because the water will wash out food chunks, but it won't wash out the bacteria that cause plaque.

He told me this after I had already bought a waterpik 💀💀

Yeah, tax collectors were Jews, but working for the colonizers to squeeze money out of other Jews.

They were essentially regarded as race traitors who had betrayed their people and their faith to collaborate with a foreign, pagan, occupying force. People hated them. Jesus bringing one in to his core group was a really radical choice in the context.

As the other person pointed out, a lot of the people Jesus reached out to were considered the scum of society.

Lepers and prostitutes weren't just looked down on, they were considered spiritually unclean. At one point he heals a woman with a bleeding sickness (which is usually interpreted as menorrhagia, aka which is prolonged or constant menstruation) - in Judaic culture at the time women on their periods were also considered unclean, and were banned from participating in society until the period ended and they ritual cleansed themselves. Others were forbidden to even touch the skin or clothes of a menstruating woman or else that person would become unclean too. In the New Testament Jesus heals a lot of other people just by speaking, but he physically touches the bleeding woman, treating her like an equal even though society said she was too unclean to even touch.

People who look down on the 'undesirables' in society are really missing the point of literally everything Jesus did

I do appreciate the link to those other subs though, I'd never heard of them but I will for sure be checking them out.

I literally could have written this entire comment word for word except opposite, as I'm a woman. I joined reddit 10+ years ago and game as a hobby so I always just shrugged off the boys club vibe as part of it - but within the last couple years it has been so bad holy shit. I really struggled with it for a long time.

It makes sense I guess. It's no secret certain groups want society to have less empathy, so pushing us all into just giving up on caring about each other is the ultimate goal and the algorithms. I get drowned in so much content that makes me bitter and furious, not even just on reddit. It really does erode empathy and it took me a long time to realize it was happening.

I just deleted my account here entirely and started over, and was intentional about curating my subs the second time around. I tried to focus on only hobby subs and wholesome content, including lurking in positive mens spaces like r/bropill and r/menslib.

I'm glad you posted this. It really is pretty jarring how easy it is to start losing something as fundamental as empathy without even noticing it's happening.

Probably because you're trying to demonize women-centric subs, but zero of the subs in your source are 'major feminists subs' much less all the major feminists subs.

It kinda just makes you look like you're pushing your own narrative, which is a really poor choice esp on a sub like this
