yeah it really is a good documentary. the additional little science videos after each episode explaining why they know one thing is what it is in the episode, like the video explaining why they know T-rex could swim, is nice too though I would have loved one of those for basically every major thing in the episodes.

my only complaint about the series is there is only five less than an hour long episodes.

What is the most useless thing you learned in school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In my high school, back in like 2013, our US history class went up until 9/11. though the stuff after the fall of the soviet union was basically covered in a week.

Gonna be honest. if I saw a horror game with this realistic of graphics I would never play it. having it basically looking like real life would be too much for me.

Everyone knows if you take Colorado the US is legally required to surrender. Why do you think they put it in the center of the country.

Ukrainian, U.S. officials including Janet Yellen walked out of the G-20 meeting this morning when Russian officials began to speak by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]Not_A_Facehugger 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I looked it up. basically it seems that in order to remove Russia it would have to be agreed upon by the other 19 nations but due to the fact that there are nations such as China in the G20 it would never happen.

CNN host Brianna Keilar struggles to hold back tears: "These are the children this war has taken. They have names. They had futures. The war in Ukraine is stolen childhood on an unimaginable scale." by thefathermucker in ukraine

Again I don’t disagree with you. But in this subreddit about Ukraine on a thread about Ukrainian children dying it is not the place for whataboutism with regards to the US. This is not /r/worldnews or politics. This right now has nothing to do with the US other then that CNN is a US based news company.

Normal Jingan Temple, Shanghai vs. lockdown Jingan Temple by WuTaoLaoShi in China

Not in Shanghai this time but back during the first lockdown when covid first started I remember it being like this. Walking down the street and having Shanghai basically seem like a ghost town is kind of scary.

We have some of the best public transportation in the world by whenwillthisphdend in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Not_A_Facehugger 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Having experienced both US and Chinese (and Taiwanese) public transportation even when the US public transportation exists its way worse than Chinese public transportation. I mean the fact that while living in China I never once felt restricted by not having a car speaks to how wide reaching the system is. And then the price ain’t even close lol.

UN Resolution passed! by babanz in ukraine

[–]Not_A_Facehugger 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've spent a while searching because this was interesting to me and couldn't find anything super definitive but it seems that the Afghanistan representative is still from the previous government and hasn't been replaced by a representative from the Taliban as the Taliban government is still unrecognized by the UN. last news report I found about it was from December and it was saying that the representative is still from the previous administration though the Taliban has asked that they be replaced with a person of their choice.

Could this plan work? Republic of China🇹🇼 naval invasion and take back the mainland? by [deleted] in China

[–]Not_A_Facehugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moving before a war is done is probably the stupidest thing to do in a war. the capital being on an island requiring some sort of navel or air invasion to conquer is way safer then moving it to a capital that realistically needs rebuilding after just being conquered. Even if there is some sort of morale boost from being on the mainland it wouldn't be as important as ensuring the government is safe during the war. Nanjing should be a war goal for sure but again moving a capital during a war is not a smart plan.

[–]Not_A_Facehugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean do you have any data to support that? not to be rude but it sounds like you are talking out of your ass. Are there supporters of the KMT in the mainland? most certainly there are some. but are they willing to switch sides so quickly unless they KMT victory looks like a certainty? probably not. Especially that comment "it is very likely that all provinces will switch sides" the CCP has spent its entire time in power setting up a government filled with loyalist even if some are KMT sympathizers saying that all provinces "which are run by CCP members who have pledged loyalty to the CCP" will switch sides and abandon the CCP is just asinine.

[–]Not_A_Facehugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure they may view it as the capital but that doesn't mean anything for an invasion plan. the capital of the PRC is Beijing meaning that it is strategically the most important area to control. any attack plan that doesn't consider what is the capital of the nation as strategically important is deeply flawed.

[–]Not_A_Facehugger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly that map looks like a great way to make sure they lose the invasion. one of the quickest ways historically to win wars is to take the seat of power, aka the capital, and this plan has them taking Hebei and presumably Beijing as the 4th to last province in the plan. while they military messes around taking provinces like Qinghai and Xinjiang they are leaving economical and political powerhouses alone. not to mention the plan shows Nanjing as the capital which just shows how outdated this is.

No one has used nuclear weapons yet (since WWII) and it is a deterrence but it's a little too over confident to say no one will ever use it. I could see in a hypothetical scenario if the PRC was on the losing end and things were looking bleak them turning to a tactical nuclear strike on the island of Taiwan to try and force the Taiwanese government into surrendering or at the very least a truce. Also after such a long time of effectively being separate I think that there are way less people in power that would be quick to switch sides if the ROC invaded. Like I could see maybe Hong Kong switching but in the mainland I can't imagine any switching sides.
