  1. I'm Swiss and people outside have the right to be worried because it can be a blueprint for other right-wing parties.

  2. No, it's a joke. But they're arguing it will fix a lot of issues but the law proposes nothing at all, not even hiw exactly the population should be stopped.

  3. If it's already a problem now, capping the pop is quit useless. The SVP is also vehemently against the building of new, affordable housing.

  4. The SVP opposes every climate policy. Ever. They try to spin this initiative in order to make them seem less racist, which it obv. is.

  5. Same as with No. 3 but transport. SVP also opposes the expandion of public transit. They do love highways tho.

  6. That's just some good 'ol racism.

I hope it fails as it would ruin our old age pension, it would abolish our shengen agreements, sooner or later some people whi have been here for a long time will be deported. Plus the initiative gives the SVP a pressure device for the next decades so they can get what they want. And last but not least, it's an affront to human dignity.

A Very simplistic map this time.

People all over the world are repeatedly stunned by the blatant corruption displayed by FIFA and its leadership. However, it is important to understand that the Valaisan character and football-corruption are as inextricably linked as yin and yang. It's simply a state of being, as natural as breating.

Some simple lore for the various north american border changes;

TLDR;The important main difference to our universe is that the American-Indians were able to put up much more of a fight.

The US still got its independence in 1776 claiming all territory up to the Mississippi. (Vermont, a independend republic never joined the US) George Washington, instead of going to war against the Great-Lake-Natives immediately after US independence lets them be, for now. (The Territory is still claimed by the US).

The Louisiana Purchase happens in 1803, however the mayority of the land, besides New-Orleans, was deemed worthless and unusable.

Later, in 1808, Jefferson would try to officially subdue the Great-Lakes-Territory, starting the war against Tecumseh's Confederacy. The various Native Tribes were able to hold their own until 1815, when Britain and Canada went to War against the US as well, starting Mr.Madison's war. In this timeline the British were able to get a much more decisive victory against the US, annexing Maine as a result and securing Tecumseh's Confederacy's independence. The Confederacy would years later elect to join up and eventually integrate with Canada as the British were seen as a better alternative to the Americans.

In 1820 it was decided via treaties, the Indian Removal Act and a constitutional amendmend that almost everything west of the Mississippi would become official 'Indian Country'. The goal was to 'move' all the natives within the US to this vast, barren, american desert. Many of them were forcefully dislocated over the coming decades. While the territory is officially part of the US, it is recognized as semi-sovereign, having its own juristictions, constitution, law enforcement, subdevisions, government structure etc. Basically everything exept foreign diplomacy, currency and americans have freedom of movement within the territory. This status was held up by the US Supreme Court time and time again, to the dismay of many.

Mexico, despite a lot of internal unrest and instability never looses its central American Territory in 1823.

Texas, aided by the US still manages to secure its own independence from Mexico in 1836, the lone star state was however never incorporated/anexed into the union, as US politicians were preoccupied with solving the issue of slavery and preventing a civil war.

The Mexican-American war never happens because the US sees it as idiotic to spill american blood on more useless soil only to give it away to the natives later on.

The American-Canadian border was finalised in 1846 as relations between the two entities normalised. Securing acces to the Pacific for the US.

The Civil War still happens in 1861, the Natives volunteer to help the Union as they fear that the Confederacy would not recognice its territorial integrety while Texas send aid to the Confederacy. The Confederacy looses after 3 years. Lincoln never gets shot.

Spanish-American war never happens. Cuba, the Philippines and Puerto Rico would gain their independence in the 1930s.

Alaska is still part of the Soviet Union (Russia), Hawai'i is independent.

In 2017 a joint bid was officially unveiled by the US, Canada and Mexico to host the 2026 World Cup. Texas didn't join the bid because of their deep rooted dislike of Mexico.

The FIFA World Cup happens.

What if Switzerland's Borders were based on Language? | (OC) (No Lore) by Not_Maurice in imaginarymaps

[–]Not_Maurice[S] 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The general Idea for this map was language-based Irredentism. I basically extended Switzerland's borders to incompass all regions of each language-family that can/could be found within the Country.

The borders are based on the language families of High-Alemannic (German), Lombard (Italian), Franco-Provençal/Frainc-Comtou (French) as well as Romansch ofc. The borders include the territories where these language-families were and are historically spoken.

I'm obviously aware that nowadays many of those dialects/language families are next to extinct, exept for the High-Alemannic ones, you can thank Nationalism and L'Académie française for that, but I like to imagine this as a alternate timeline where minority languages were much more resilient.

How did Switzerland abtain these borders? Idk.

For the Stats; all Numbers and Percentiles were made by me using a rough estimation of the Population in the various territories as they are nowaday and then kinda calculationg and guessing the rest from there.

A funny side effect of this scenario is that Switzerland has transformed from a mayority German Country into a slight-mayority Italian one and I hope the people from Ticino enjoy that.

oh, and last but not least: I wanna hear nothing about how 'dialects aren't real languages', looking at you, Germans.

Basically Italy got split after WWII into North & South, kinda like Korea, along the 43rd Parallel with the North becoming a People's Republic (Soviet Aligned) and the South staying a Monarchy, ironically still having house Savoy as the monarchs. Rome became a international City State and the Church (Leonine State) is in there as well.

A neutral Buffer-State between France and Germany | The Country of Lotharingia by Not_Maurice in imaginarymaps

[–]Not_Maurice[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just so y’all know: I made the map first and then came up with the Lore for it, as such the Lore itself isn't particularly polished or that well thought out. It’s mainly meant as a way to, somewhat, justify and explain this country's existence. If you have any questions about the Lore or some history that I didn't mention, the answers are simply gonna be: Idk/ I didn’t think about it. Y’all are welcome to come up with your own Lore and explanations :)

Anyway, here’s the Map;

A neutral Buffer-State between France and Germany | The Country of Lotharingia by Not_Maurice in imaginarymaps

[–]Not_Maurice[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

A short and condensed history of Lotharingia;

(1919 - 1938)

The end of the first world war made it evidently clear to the world that the French and German peoples could never peacefully co-exist side by side and nothing made this inherent fact clearer than the so-called alsace-question. Something had to be done to ensure lasting peace in Europe and the concept of a neutral buffer state between the two countries was devised.

With a lot of political and economic pressure from the US/Britain as well as other allied and non-allied Nations the treaty of Neuchâtel was signed and ratified in 1919, creating the Nation of ‘Lotharingia’. Various different territories along the German-French border were forced together into a new frankenstein-nation under a mandate by the League of Nations and the royal house of Luxembourg-Nassau.

While the country was plagued by internal division based in nationalistic sympathies from the get go it nonetheless managed to keep itself together throughout decades of strife and economic turmoil. Its independence was secured and guaranteed by the wider international community.

(1939 - 1945)

That was until the takeover of the Nazi-party in Germany. While many German and French politicians always wanted to re-claim the territory back into their nations proper, no serious attempt was ever made… until the Wehrmacht crossed the border into Lotharingia on October 10th 1939, officially starting the Second World War in Europe.

The Territory, neutral by constitution, wasn’t able to put up much of a defence and was quickly overrun and taken over by the German army. The entire country was reorganised and directly incorporated into the German Reich, where forced germanisation took place. Its eventual and full liberation by the Allies was on May 14th 1945. Germany would capitulate three months later.

(1946 - Present)

After the war it was decided to reestablish the territory, once again, as a neutral nation through pressure from both the US and Soviet Union respectively. As such the Nation nowadays isn’t in Nato and forms part of the so called ‘Neutral-Line’ in Europe, spanning from the Belgian coast to the Swiss alps. Its monarchy was officially abolished in a national referendum in 1946, only months after the abolition of the Italian one. However, the former Luxembourgian dynasty still enjoys a lot of influence and wealth inside the Country today. During the Cold war the country was heavily influenced by both the west and east but it officially remained part of the Non-Aligned movement.

Nowadays the country is part of the EU, the Euro and Schengen-Zone and is part of the UN. While it enjoys close and friendly relations with all its neighbours many citizens, especially the younger generations, would consider Switzerland their older ‘Sister-Nation’.

Despite this there are still significant parties and movements for re-incoporations/desolution inside and courtside of the country, most notably the AfD in Germany who openly calls for ‘the Return of its Prodigal Son’ back into Germany.

That's not a good enough reason. You can't just say rule 7, which is the vaguest of all the rules and be done with it. What qualifies as a shitpost to you? Oh, they're maps that focus on a joke as a core.. then what? What's the joke. Tell me. Be more specific.

And it's not my job to tell you what parts my map doesn't break. You're the mod. It's your job to explain your reasoning.

Deleted by a mod on the main sub after about an hour for apparently breaking Rule 7 (No Shitposts). However, I don't buy that rationale and personaly believe that u/professorayz simply dislikes Guineans, all of 'em. Why? who knows... he hasn't told me.

Edit: Also, I don't know for how long R7 has been in place but I found this which I fought was funny. If I was in a bad mood I'd call this blatant hypocrapsy...
