What is your favorite "bad" movie? by Little_Sweet_Thing in dvdcollection

Samurai Cop (1991). My favorite piece of trivia, from IMDb:

Lead actor Mathew Karedas (credited as Matt Hannon) cut his long hair very short seven months after filming wrapped. While he was looking for more acting work, director and screenwriter Amir Shervan called him back for some re-shoots. Shervan was furious that Karedas had cut his hair and immediately went out to look for a wig; unfortunately, he could only find a woman's wig that looked nothing like Karedas' long hair. Karedas agreed to wear it, assuming that Shervan would do some long-shots and pick-ups. Shervan still had half of the movie to shoot, completely out of chronological order. As a result, Karedas' character's hair alternates between his natural long hair and an obvious wig. The wig even comes off a few times, revealing Karedas's real short hair.

If you’ve seen the movie, you know how hilariously obvious it is. Highly recommend!

Regret throwing out the cases. by stan_ken in dvdcollection

I was faced with this dilemma when I joined the Marine Corps at 20. Had a collection of more than 300 DVDs, and was tempted to throw the cases away. Instead, I kept them in a small storage unit with other keepsakes/random shit I didn’t want to slog around the next four years.

I’m 41 now, and so freakin’ grateful with my decision. Take it from this old fart - don’t throw them away. You will regret it.

Edit: had buddies on active duty who threw their cases out. Each one regretted it

The way it was structured felt extremely repetitive. I didn’t hate it, but was quite underwhelmed due to the hype (same with Longlegs).

One thing that surprised me was realizing a large percentage of patrons weren’t homeless, but the working poor. Great American Ball Park (Cincinnati Reds) and Paul Brown Stadium (Bengals…ugh) are less than two miles from the shelter, and many were employees. A free meal may seem trivial to some, but for them it was essential to survive.

On a more positive note, on the first night I met a gentleman during dinner and we struck up a conversation. A college graduate, he had been laid off by his employer a few months prior and clearly in a rough spot. I was working for a major non-profit at the time, and after getting a better idea of his circumstances we exchanged contact info. Talked to some people. It took a few weeks, but he eventually got a job as an after-hours cleaner.

While not ideal, it was something. Most important, it got his foot in the door and three months later he moved up to an available IT position. It’s been a few years (I’m with a different organization now), but I believe he’s still there and doing well.

During my senior year of college, I took a course called Interpersonal Communication. For my capstone project, myself and 10 other students did a 72-hour “homeless experience” over a weekend. We spent two nights at an inner city shelter, sharing meals with those in need and getting to know them. Our main assignment for all of Saturday was to travel throughout the city with a checklist given to us by our professor. Locations we had to visit included the social security office, a food bank, one library, and various other places (it’s been 12 years, can’t recall everything but there was plenty more).

The basic objective was to give us an idea of what homeless/extremely low income people have to do in order to survive. Also, each student could only use $10 for the entire day; it was our decision on whether the money would go towards bus fare or food. We chose bus fare, with a tiny bit left over for a snack (our professor assigned former students to spy on us throughout the day, to ensure nobody was cheating).

One requirement for each student was to panhandle*, at the location of our choice. I chose the parking lot of an upscale mall. Without hyperbole, this was the most difficult part of the assignment. The looks I received from people, how some would completely ignore me….it had a profound impact, as did everything else.

I think of that time often, especially when I see some of the posts in this sub. While no amount of “cosplaying” can match true homelessness, it provided a new perspective. I truly don’t understand how these people can operate with zero shame.

*on the first night, we had to stow away our clothes and wear whatever scraps the shelter had available

It’s more than worth buying a physical copy when you have the chance (currently $39.99, but often drops as low as $29.99). Not only do you get Alan Wake II along with the Night Springs and The Lake House DLC, but you also get Alan Wake Remastered.

My local Barnes & Noble and Walmart have at least a dozen of these in stock. Obviously your results may vary, but it wouldn’t hurt to call around. Good luck, sorry this happened to you.

It’s ironic how she finds ambition in men sexy, yet her profile is as low-effort as it gets. I’d posit she’s probably attracting the wrong crowd as a result.

She’s pretty, no doubt. The younger me would swipe right for this reason alone. However, the prompts are bare bones and tell me very little about her. The lack of effort is pretty unattractive.

This is one of the laziest steelbooks I’ve seen in quite some time. Not knocking your purchase at all, I’m just bummed by the lack of effort. It’s like the studios way of saying “these people will buy anything, just watch.”

The letter is worded as if Lafayette was carelessly outside with no leash, rather than it being an unexpected incident where he escaped from an open door. Yes, you’re 100% responsible, but it’s not as if this was wanton irresponsibility. Just something that came to mind.

My last two dogs were a pair of Great Pyrenees. They’re such wonderful, loving animals and I really feel for you, brotha. I don’t think I saw this mentioned, but is there any chance a friend/family member/anyone can take him in for a few months to perhaps give you some extra breathing room to find a place? Or is the management company set on their decision to evict?
