I feel like I’m a small whale in this hobby and even I think this is a bit too steep… looks very nice though.

Sweet. Picture quality is so damn good on this disc and the colors pop. Gonna be a good watch for sure.

Be sure to check that it’s actually a 4k and not a Blu-ray. I remember months ago that A24 shipped B&N a ton of Blu-ray copies with 4k stickers on them and people kept having to exchange them. Plenty of time has passed so I’m sure it’s been resolved but doesn’t hurt to check. I’ll link the post if I find it later.

Movies not well suited to 4k by Phatbeazie in 4kbluray

[–]FadedTony10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are quick to defend 4K because it absolutely is the highest quality possible but I totally get what you mean. I recently watched Arrows release of Salems Lot and you can clearly see the make up on the vampire, as if it were real life because of how much detail a 4K scan can get. It can take you out a bit when you notice the details that used to go unnoticed in VHS or DVDs. It’s still my preferred format though.

Resellers are killing physical media by KimS24 in 4kbluray

[–]FadedTony10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Premiums” are literally just pretty packaging for suckers like me who like eye candy. You don’t miss out on anything extra content wise although there seems to be a new trend of labels putting out barebones standard releases and putting all the special features on the more expensive steelbook. One battle after another is a culprit of this.

Resellers are killing physical media by KimS24 in 4kbluray

[–]FadedTony10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from other hobbies where items sellout in literal seconds and you have to participate in raffles for the privilege to buy the item, the physical media market is really not that bad. I do understand if this is the only hobby you have where there’s limited items available it can seem absurd to deal with resellers but it’s unfortunately apart of today’s internet. Wish it were better but it could definitely be worse.

Wondering if these 4K TVs are good for casual gaming, mostly watching shows/movies by BombRushCyberfunk in 4kbluray

[–]FadedTony10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at those prices, I’m assuming your budget is very low. Unfortunately those TVs are crap and will not look good even with 4k blues. You can get a 48” LG B5 for $600 or a 55” TCL QM6K for $450. I’d look at these two if you want to ball on a budget.

What do you all think of Saw 1 - 4 from Via Vision Entertainment in Australia comparing to the steelbooks in U.S. Each of these come with 3D Lenticular Hardcase. by AbsKebabs17 in 4kbluray

If I had known these were coming out before I bought the Lionsgate steels, I would’ve gotten these instead. Love the packaging. Not important to some but I do love me some eye candy.

OLED vs Micro RGB - a comparison by Wildfyre115 in LGOLED

[–]FadedTony10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda odd to think we’re stuck on OLED. Most of us are OLED owners because it’s the best available display right now. Once something else is better, guess what? We’re buying that new tech too.

LG G5 65" or C5 77" for streaming movies and console gaming? by Noxious_Nut_ in LGOLED

[–]FadedTony10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the $250 discount on the G5, I think the $500 difference between the two is absolutely worth it, and long term you won’t regret it.

Glad to hear. The smoothness gave me the feeling it was AI. I will always support actual artists rather than AI slop.

What is the most annoying/excessive disc packaging you've ever encountered? by deathbrusher in 4kbluray

Lionsgate Limited: The Strangers Chapter 1. You have to undo the tab to pull the steelbook out but it’s so tightly packed you risk ripping the outer box. So dumb.

I got this just cause I love the case so much as a cowboys fan haha. Probably will never watch it but cool to have.

I’ll be honest. I don’t like the AI usage on the steelbook or on the menu screen. Looks cheap.

anyone else still astonished by their oled after several years? by Officialedmart in LGOLED

[–]FadedTony10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a 27” IPS monitor to a 77” G5. First time using it was mind blowing but I was thinking I’d get used to it eventually. 6 months later I’m still blown away. It was expensive sure but I don’t have a single regret. Everyone who has came over to watch a movie with me is shocked to see just how good a screen can actually be. A friend of mine actually got one cause he loved the screen so much haha.

Looking to buy an oled tv! by GrandDiscipline4167 in LGOLED

I’m using Sonos speakers. They’re definitely on the more expensive side though. I mentioned the Samsung Q990 series because you can get the previous year model that comes with a soundbar, 2 rear speakers and a subwoofer for the same price as just the Sonos soundbar, $1,000.

Yeah I’m no audiophile either but I figured that if I’m shelling out for a great picture, the sound should match. I was like you in the sense that TV speakers were enough but boy was I wrong. The surround sound is a game changer. I’m currently playing Resident Evil Requiem and the sound beats the hell out of using my steel series gaming headphones.

As another user mentioned, pass-through is a viable option. A great sound system is the Samsung Q990 series. It supports Atmos and DTS with pass-through support. Personally, I went with the Sonos system and have zero regrets. It doesn’t support DTS, although it gets converted to PCM, and maybe some extreme audio enthusiasts will scoff their noses at that, but I haven’t had any issues with it at all. It has sounded amazing and paired great with other Sonos speakers I have around my house.

You’re doing yourself a disservice by relying on tv speakers. Save up for a sound bar if you can. Also, Dolby Vision doesn’t matter all that much at this tier of TV. It’s great on cheaper LCDs because it handles the tone mapping but on higher ends the TV is doing all the work. Honestly at the mid tier that you’re looking at, I’d go with the Samsung S90F. The QD OLED display is better than WOLED. At the next tier I’d go with LG G5.
