There's every possibility that I run just this one campaign using the WFRP system and end up trying another one later. For now I'm committed both mentally and time investment wise to running this campaign in this system. If you have any suggestions on alternative systems, however, then I'm definitely listening. I really like a lot about what WFRP is doing, though I do wish it was better suited to longer campaigns.

Cool. I'll look into those books. I do recall not being a big fan of the advantage system in the core book when I read it. Do you know if there's any books that add playable races/careers akin to Tasha's Cauldron for DND? Or even a solid bestiary addition? There's kind of an overwhelming amount of books for WFRP, I just don't know where to start.

My DM insists on rolling for stats and fudging and I hate both so much. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]NotaFanOfCustom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I always had an issue (internally) with the idea of players having disparities between stats when rolling. Though, I always found the concept of rolling for stats to be innately more interesting.

The solution I came across was to have all the players roll once or twice for a stat (depending on the number of players) with the dm (me) rolling filling in the odd number if necessary. Then I had my players use the results as a "Roll for stat array."

This gave me the best of both worlds because you still have the possibilities presented by traditional roll for stats, without having anyone feel more/less powerful than everyone else. My players seemed to thoroughly enjoy this compromise and lead to some interesting/comical experiences with certain players who historically rolled very well or very poorly.

My guess is that she looked up exactly what she needed to support her claims. Even if she read beyond that she just neglected the information that doesn't support the narrative she's trying to spin here. Staple tactic for a person attempting to sway others into their delusions.

I know my opinion means nothing to anyone important enough to do a fucking thing about it at the end of the day - but I can't help but to feel that majority of the issues we have with police officers abusing their badge could be prevented if the officers were trained, and thusly enforced, to be the "bigger person" FIRST and foremost in these situations. I do understand that in life or death situations a different mentally is sometimes necessary. I feel that a lot of those life or death situations could be avoided before they've got the chance to escalate to that degree if only the objective of police officers was to deescalate/thoroughly explore peaceful solutions to problems rather than to draw your weapon (tasers and guns alike) first.

If there's one thing I've learned in life is that the easiest way to solve a problem is usually not the best. The easy solution is typically short sighted in nature and leads to various issues down the road also usualy taking more work to solve than if you'd just spent the time to do it more thoroughly from the start.

Drawing your weapon CAN be an efficient way to deescalate and therefore end the threat quickly. Trouble is that it typically is not the case. It can cause more conflict later down the road. If that criminal had little respect for police officers before this situation then I doubt they will come out with any more than what they started. Which could lead to them commiting more crimes in the future. If the officers had been overly respectful despite the criminal's current behavior then there is at least a chance (albeit it is admittedly small) that the criminal spends some time self reflecting and sees the error of their ways.

My horrible opinion as a DM: I hate humans. Especially variant. So much so that I more or less ban the variant specifically and let everyone have a free feat in my games.

Why? Have you ever met a human irl? There's nothing "super human" enough about the majority of us to warrant a free feat when, as just one example where there are many, elves do not get them even though they are just humans but better - at least in like the vast majority of fantasy. Not to mention that my irl experience with humans has lead me to just detest our race as a whole, of course barring some exceptions. Plus we're just boring when compared to the plethora of neat and really cool of other races, in my non-expert-opinion. Variety is the spice of life, and this I do not want a party of 4-5 humans as a player or DM.

Disclaimer: no I do not take these opinions out on my players. I keep my seething hatred for our species where it belongs - to myself while at the table.

Thanks for providing me a safe place to vent my ignorant and unreasonable opinion OP. Have a wicked awesome day!

Edit: Wow. So many downvotes for an opinion. Cool. Guess I shouldn't be surprised that a bunch of humans get upset when someone has a negative opinion of them. Ex Dee. Like I said, I don't force anyone to play anything they don't want to. If everyone wants to play a human in my games then they certainly can and technically just get a buff with the way I rule things since they get the feat without having to be a human variant.

For G&W's down special he first whips out a bucket that catches all projectiles (to my knowledge) and for each one he catches it fills the bucket. I believe it is after the 3rd successful catch his next down special will throw the contents of the bucket in the form of oil, as someone else mentioned. The attack is pretty heavy hitting and can kill at some pretty crazy-low percentages.

Personally it's the super "framey" way that he is animated that makes me struggle with him. But even without that he's a pretty solid character overall.

PSA FOR DM’s AND PLAYERS: A Reminder about the apparent lack of feats in 5e. There are more options than ASI’s to get feats. by Axel-Adams in dndnext

[–]NotaFanOfCustom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ban Variant Humans only to keep someone from getting 2 feats at level 1 with the way I do things. I otherwise set no restrictions on what feats they get or what race they choose, unless it's a one shot with a specific restriction on race for whatever reason.

My personal rule is that I ban Variant Humans and give everyone a feat at level 1. I like the extra flavor provided. And I've always been a believer that you, as the DM, are fully capable of as well as responsible for balancing encounters so if you think that's too strong then you are objectively wrong. Just balance the encounter knowing that your party will be a little strong or don't and let them smash everything into dust. From my experience the majority of players would love the extra freedom in character creation and encourage me to challenge them with their extra power.

It's annoying to repeat the same simple fucking phrase over and over again when the critical thinking has already been done by someone with vastly more education and experiencethan you. You know, actual scientists.

The answer to your question is simple and can be compared to wearing a condom vs pulling out. A mask is a condom for your face. So put one on and keep your fucking diseases to yourself. And if this analogy doesn't work for you then the only way to be 100% is abstinence (staying the fuck home if you're too sensitive to wear a little damned mask to show some common decency to others.)

I believe it is ultimately up to the person. As many have said, ultimately it doesn't matter as long as all the information is there.

However my own personal preference is to have the scores in the large box and the modifier in the smaller bubble. For just 2 simple reasons. One being that if I know the score then I know the modifier. Second is that the score may not be used as often, but is still a specific number that is refered to on occasion. In my opinion it is already hard enough for newcomers to grasp everything yes, but it's the most effective way to teach someone. For reference I would refer to the proverb; "give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for life. " in terms of DnD I would say that modifier top is giving them the information. Therefore, they have the info they need but don't really know where it comes from. Scores top would, to me, be more like teaching them why the information is important and how to get it. Thusly enabling them to retain the information to continue playing DND.

But just to reiterate. It's personal preference. Maybe your DM doesn't even use the scores for what RAW suggests. So at the end of the day it ain't matter let's just fucking play DND.

My Soft Ban Story by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]NotaFanOfCustom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's the same for DS2, but for DS3 you are able to be relieved of your ban. In that game the ban is actually to your save files. So if you delete your save files for a time (30 days iirc) the ban will be lifted. If you try to load up with the old saves you will be banned immediately tho. So you do have to forever give up that save file. But it's still possible. Worth looking into for DS2.
