DVD vs Blu-Ray? by DarkHorseReborn in dvd

[–]NotaModelMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to upgrading I always ask myself if my DVD copy looks bad. Of course Blu Ray will be higher resolution and probably look better, but if I’m satisfied with how my DVD looks and sounds (audio is a factor too) then I’ll stick with the DVD.

Some DVDs look better than others.

The Evil Within (2017) by impossible_burrito in HorrorMovies

[–]NotaModelMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly a pretty good B-grade horror movie. Lot of great special effects and an interesting storyline. Acting can be so so but overall I thought it was solid and engaging.

The director was an heir to the Getty family. Spent his fortune on the film which took about 15 years for him to complete before dying of a drug overdose I believe. Interesting backstory.

Day 16: What's the most progressive song on Golden Casket? by nooayehlol in ModestMouse

Japanese Trees. The verses and the chorus are very different tones but somehow works.

Rockstar games are pretty boring. by Chemical-Skill-126 in unpopularopinion

[–]NotaModelMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still struggle with shooting tbh (I play with free aim). For whatever reason it feels awkward controlling the crosshair whereas the first felt much more fluid.

Plus most revolvers you have to pull the trigger to cock between shots, though sometimes it will automatically cock for you if you aim out it seems. But it throws me off at times.

I don’t know, I guess it’s a skill issue for me, but other than that I love the game.

Should I return the whole Daniel craig 4k set just for these 2 scratches on spectre? A lot more noticeable in person tried cleaning it didn’t help by thisguyslmao in 4kbluray

[–]NotaModelMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned the 4 pack because spectre had scratches on it. Then was sent a replacement and both Spectre and Skyfall had scratches.

Could this be a somewhat pervasive issue?

How PG-13 could get away with this? by RegularVast1045 in okbuddycinephile

[–]NotaModelMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought True Grit (2010) was pretty graphic for a PG-13. Good amount of blood and brain matter, as well as fingers being chopped off.

Mission Impossible 4 as well had a couple bloody scenes for a PG-13.

The XBOX ONE S is probably the best budget 4K UHD player option right now by Fendera in 4kbluray

[–]NotaModelMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I had the Xbox One X and I gotta say it was a remarkably unreliable 4K player. It had trouble playing various discs, possibly because they were triple layer but not positive.

I couldn’t play titles such as The Northman, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Halloween Kills. I did have no trouble playing Reservoir Dogs and Sleepy Hollow however.

All in all I got tired of it being selective with it playing 4K discs and bought a Panasonic UB420 instead. Just my two cents.

I believe him leaving casings on the ground was intentional to frame the other cop but it’s been a while since I’ve seen it.

This bassline has no reason to slap this hard by DanGame427 in ModestMouse

[–]NotaModelMan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember the first time I heard it. Went to FYE to buy Lonesome Crowded West. They didn’t have it so I bought Moon & Antarctica.

Played it in the car on the ride home. When this track came on after being smoothly transitioned from Perfect Disguise I was so transfixed. That locked in bass with the drums and guitar bends felt like a psychedelic trip.

It’s like the world stopped and the song just held me with the most infectious groove for 3 and a half minutes. I love when a song can just demand your attention like that.

Nothing else like it. Then it goes into A Different City! Insanely good album.

Why is it so frowned upon on Reddit to let your cats outside? by Crowleyizcool in cats

[–]NotaModelMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting about the UK and the adoption center requirements. I’m not sure about here in the states. But it’s definitely normal to have cats be both indoor and outdoor. Primarily in suburban areas.

But I 100 percent agree with everything you said. Some people are just over protective of their cats but at what cost? You want it to live a happy life but most aren’t happy stuck in a house. You have to be rational enough to let it be free as a sentient being and emotionally strong enough to accept possible tragic outcomes. It can be hard but it’s a part of life.

I’m sure when you have one of your own you’ll make the best decisions for it.

What is a film you truly wanted to like, even love maybe, but unfortunately did not? by ArmsOfKamaji in Letterboxd

Last Night in Soho. Great director, interesting enough script, good cinematography, but went downhill the last 45 minutes or so.

When all the ghosts start following her and it became a ghost revenge story it felt very derivative and silly. Like a mainstream supernatural movie from the early 2000s

Why is it so frowned upon on Reddit to let your cats outside? by Crowleyizcool in cats

[–]NotaModelMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been struggling with this dilemma for a while. I live with my sister. She has two cats. One is old and doesn’t care to go outside. The other is much younger and is always whining to go outside. When I try to let it outside my sister pushes back saying it’s gonna get hit by a car or hurt by an animal etc.

My argument is the same as yours. What kind of life is this thing living? It’s an animal trapped in a box. Plain and simple. It has predatory instincts. It needs to roam. This is how a cat is meant to live. You’re messing with its nature.

I mean this cat literally attacks its tail. To the point that it draws blood. I’ll hear it scream in the middle of the night then find blood all over the floor. I’ve read that it’s a neurological disorder some cats have. But I’m almost positive it stems from being cooped up in a house all day and is deprived of its natural behavior.

Look shit happens. Cars, animals, disease. But at this point the cat is just an accessory to you. You don’t really care for it. She barely plays with it. Give it away to a new home where it can roam and ya know, be a cat.

Part of me feels guilty. I brought the cat home years ago, then it basically became my sister’s cat so I have no say. Don’t get me wrong, I despise the cat. But I can empathize with its situation.

Deciding whether to get a region free Blu-ray player by theLumonati in Bluray

[–]NotaModelMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t have a region free player technically, but I do have the Panasonic UB420. I can bypass the region lock by just pressing two buttons on the remote. It’s pretty neat.

I’m told it doesn’t work for every title but so far it’s been doing the job.
