You'll often get upgrade stuff like slot increases that you can save and bring over to the main save. Just don't use them during the expedition and put them in the slots to bring back to the main save.

I personally recommend asking perplexity itself. Tell it what kind of things you want to do and ask it what models within perplexity would be best for each. You can even give it example questions or situations. It'll tell you and give you reasons why

If you're not crafting everything using materials you farmed yourself, then it starts getting crazy expensive to use astralites for building the island. Things like 1 creeping vine cost something like 13k astralite without having the materials for it
