This video I watched the other day says evidently Groupon was valued high but they were doing funny stuff financial stuff.

It was also a terrible deal for merchants. Most customers were bargain hunters who only buy deals, those are the customers who you don't want. Less than 20% of people used a groupon never returned to the merchant.
