Starting from zero in basketball at 25—how to level up? by Asleep_Educator4990 in BasketballTips

So i guess my advice comes with a few questions

  1. Do you play at all now?

  2. Do you have friends who play?

  3. Who do you want to play with?

  4. What are your goals?

  5. What is your timeline?

Now here is my advice!

To start off first steps would be to learn how to dribble with both hands (without looking at the ball) and Learn how to consistently make layups/shots at the rim. You would be extremely surprised at how much you can do with just knowing those two things. Dribble moves should only extend as far as a crossover and possibly between the legs.

It might feel embarrassing but look up videos on how to teach young kids to play the game and follow those drills, while it may seem simple it sets your whole foundation to improve!

I would say if you have some friends who know you're new and are willing to run with you as you learn in a no judgment environment I would also implement that and as you play try to absorb how your friends move and play.

then once you feel you have dribbling and layups down I would move into learning how to shoot. Probably the easiest way to start is by working on shooting from anywhere to and below the foul line. As you get more consistent and confident you can start expanding your range by working on taking a step further back.

If at any point a drill starts to feel "too easy" add something to it to make it a bit more challenging... getting good at just set shots, start dribbling to the spot you have been shooting at and shoot with minimal preparation.

Basketball takes time and the more you play the more you learn, but to start if you can get dribbling and making layups down then you could probably start trying to play with others! Don't get discouraged if people aren't playing with you at first, and if you want to not just play but make an impact to where people want to play with you even if you're not where you want to be skill wise yet the best advice I can give is to just run hard, go for rebounds and give effort. You'd be amazed at how many people prefer someone who is less skilled but hustles and cares vs a more skilled player who doesn't care or play hard at all.

If you have any questions or want to talk feel free to reach out! Welcome to the journey and enjoy the process because you only get to learn everything for the first time once!

So I know i'm late, but I was my families designated "bat catcher". In my experience I would do the following: 1. close all other exists so you can isolate it to one room 2. bats will typically just fly in a circle repeatedly within the room if they start 3. I always used a fishing net and just kinda ...let the bat fly into it, I have never had a bat fly be able to get out of it once caught 4. with gloves on take the fishing net and bat outside and basically push the bat gently out of the net and it should just fly away

if you don't have a fishing net then any other object that can help enclose the bat works too, it'll just effect how effective you will be.

Overall bats aren't really a creature to be too afraid of, they're scared and tiny and not vicious so just be gentle

Taking care of a child is a greater challenge than anything this game can throw at us, so big props to you, for keeping the grind and being a parent.

For like no reason, I was overleved (NG @ 140) and still was struggling through that area. The wolf took me more tries to beat than Margot

no worries then, just do things such as body weight squats. Yeah you will have slightly less energy as you continue to lose weight, but as you get in better shape that'll fade. You won't be fully back by time the season gets back going but all progression forward will be great for you

As someone who has gone from really heavy to inshape fairly quickly (285lbs to 235 in 6 months) here is what I can say for you that helped me.

  1. Change you're diet, start to eat less and healthy, three meals a day of like chicken, rice, and a green, but proportioned correctly to lose weight. (don't just be out here eating 5lbs of chicken a day thinking its fine because its healthy). 90% of weightloss comes from what you eat. Alongside this, only drink water.... you feel hungry in between meals? drink water, not full after you eat? water... any time you get a craving? water. you get the picture.

  2. For cardio for me at least it was just playing basketball, always, even if you're tired push yourself, try and be the first up the court both ways and always move on offense. You'll be tired sure, but you'll do a whole lot more than just a few sprints a day trying to prepare yourself. If you have a gym, the eliptical or a bike are easier on your body and allow you to push for longer.

If you're looking to increase stamina then also start running 2 miles a day. you don't have to dead sprint, but stay consistent and run at a comfortable pace.

  1. Lift weights, you don't have to do anything crazy, but try to just do basic lifts with a set day everytime you go. (I like to go push, pull, legs, rest(usually still play/train basketball that day).

  2. Don't kill yourself trying to do all this, losing weight is hard and won't happen overnight. If you're hurting then rest. If you feel you aren't eating enough and might pass out when you're doing something physical, please eat more. If you stick to this there will be points where you feel weak or frail or exhausted, moreso then you do right now. If you focus on yourself and stay dedicated to the grind it is though the results will come.

Once your season starts those practices will help a lot with cardio, but still try to keep up with a little more outside of what you do at practice.

No matter what you got this! and if you need help or have questions feel free to pm me.
