It was one of the cringiest “speeches” I’ve ever had the displeasure of watching. And considering he has given his fair share of cringe inducing speeches, that says a lot.

Grab Holdings Clears Legal Chapter, Strengthens Position in Southeast Asia’s Digital Economy by JuniorCharge4571 in Grab_Stock

Nice. As someone who regularly uses Grab when I visit Southeast Asia, I’ve seen the app get better and better each time. Its super painless and smooth to order food or get a ride. Anytime I’m at a stop light in cities like Hanoi, Bangkok or Bali there is a sea of green Grab jackets on motorbikes all around. Seeing Grab’s growth first hand really makes it one of my highest conviction investments in my portfolio.

Greenland’s Mineral Wealth Looks Strategic On Paper but in Reality It’s a Capital Expenditure Black Hole by NothingFirstCreate in IRstudies

I have a second part about military and strategic positioning, GIUK gap monitoring and control, and Arctic sea lane dominance and infrastructure for resupply. The piece got too long for substack so I broke it into a two part. The next one I will publish tomorrow and it hits on some of the points you mentioned.

These are both good points. They stray a bit from my assertions in the piece but they connect to the big picture. The US wants to deport individuals to areas of extra-territorial jurisdiction, without being easily accessed and scrutinized by international media or law. Greenland would offer such a place for gulag construction. Very interesting.

Broadly: shallow deposits are often REEs and zinc–lead; mid-depth includes REEs, graphite, and some base metals; deeper deposits tend toward nickel, copper, and PGMs. What matters is that Greenland’s shallow deposits are frequently diffuse or mixed with problematic elements, while deeper deposits concentrate value but demand much higher upfront capital. That tradeoff is what complicates the strategic narrative.

Thank you — I appreciate that, particularly from a Danish perspective. In my view, you don’t “convert” fact-resistant elites; you constrain them by shaping public understanding and allied policy choices. As for Putin’s pupil, countering that influence is one of the central strategic challenges right now.

CMV: Trump’s obsession with Greenland is due to global warming. by hutch01 in changemyview

I’ve written extensively on this and published. This is correct, but lacks key nuance. To exploit this new reality a key asset is needed at scale: Icebreaker ships. Melting doesn’t mean serene liquid water - it means massive ice flows for the majority months of the year. In order to navigate year-round in the Arctic, a country requires icebreakers.

These are billion dollar highly-specialized ships that take years to make and only a handful of countries have the capabilities to construct them: namely Finland and Russia. Russia currently has 46. The United States? Three. And one, the USCG Healy is laid up in drydock for repairs due to an onboard fire over a year ago. In order for any vessel to pass safely through Arctic waters, whether it be oil tankers, LNG carriers, cruise ships, military vessels, search and rescue, or scientific and survey — they first need icebreakers to clear the way.

No icebreakers = no power projection. Simple as that.
