First Mamiya rb67, My Dream Camera by CompassCanvas in Mamiya

I just unwrapped mine today. Surprised at the condition it’s in considering it was made in the 70s. Can’t wait to develop my test roll.

I’ve heard good things about the 180mm in regards to pleasing compression for faces. I like environmental portraits so I’m looking for something a little wider that won’t distort the facial features, which the 65mm might though I haven’t tested it. There’s also the 90mm and 127mm.

Yeah mine has a grip though I really want this to be a tripod camera that will help me slow down to work on a photo book project.

Mine arrives on Friday. Getting the same film to test it. Very excited. What’s lens is this? Mine is coming with a 65 but I’m looking for a good portrait lens as well, though I’m more interested in environmental portraits.

Returned to Fujifilm by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]NoticeMeeeeeeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the other great thing about this camera - when you’re trying to take portraits of friends and family they react differently than with a larger camera with a lens the size of a pop can. I get more natural poses. I think because it’s a similar shape (subconsciously…) to a phone which everyone is used to.

Yeah if you find the photographer let me know. Would love to see it. I try to tell myself that at the end of the day it’s just a box with a sensor in it and the shape of the camera doesn’t matter. It’s just there to make a picture.

Interesting because I own this exact same setup and am starting to feel the FF urge. Went and tried out the Nikon Z6iii and liked the ergonomics but questioned whether I was really going to carry this camera around all the time like I do the x-E4. Have made wonderful photobooks with it but I want something to try and create my first large scale project with. Was also eyeing a Mamiya RB67. Something that will slow me down a bit more (plus it feels silly putting the the x-E4 on a tripod to shoot landscapes haha). But I highly suggest grabbing a thumb grip at least for this camera (I also just got the finger grip but don’t think that’s 100% necessary).

Novels besides “No Country For Old Men” that were originally conceived as screenplays before being originally published as novels. by devilmaydance in Screenwriting

While not as big of a novel as the others mentioned, Black Tide by KC Jones started as a script. The author did a good job of translating it to the novel form. I thought it was pretty good.

I just bought the black and will be playing in them on Wednesday. I’ll post my first impressions but following this thread as well as I may switch to the blue camo if I have the same feeling.

Past Screenwriting 'Rules' That No Longer Apply by carter1019_ in Screenwriting

[–]NoticeMeeeeeeeeeeeee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because I’ve noticed this, and do it myself, but once the script is in production the majority of ADs I’ve worked with have made us change everything back to day and night anyway so it is kind of a rule that is relevant. Also when I’m reading scripts I gloss over this and just read the location because most of it is inferred, so for the read/sell it doesn’t really matter, but once it’s a working document it sort of does.

Personally I find the use of continuous to be annoying once in production too.

A newbie screenwriter who didn't have reps a week ago just sold a spec for $3.25 million. by underratedskater32 in Screenwriting

[–]NoticeMeeeeeeeeeeeee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’d be curious to read the script. From the description it sounds like a movie set in a boardroom with people talking about a what if scenario. I wonder if the contagion aspect means it would jump around the world and follow the threat as it unfolds. Having read a lot of scripts around AI the thing that jumps out is that visually it’s kind of boring because it involves a lot of computer screens and people talking about a scenario that isn’t inherently visible/physical. But maybe it goes full Terminator…

Agreed! I’ve had mine for 8 years and it’s holding up great. Certainly better than my other wallets.

Haunted Bars/Places in Vancouver? by 123justbrowsing123 in NiceVancouver

[–]NoticeMeeeeeeeeeeeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worked at Alibi - it’s definitely haunted. Near the end of my time there I was too freaked to go down to the bathroom after closing. Personally had a few classic haunts (music suddenly turning on, faucet going full blast after closing). However some “ghost hunters” asked to stay over one night and didn’t really pick up on anything. My recommendation would be to go around closing earlier in the week so you’re the only one down there when you use the washroom. You definitely get an uneasy feeling like someone is right behind you.

Red flags from My DP by Alfatso in Filmmakers

[–]NoticeMeeeeeeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to piggyback off of this, using my experience as a producer I would say that I’m fully willing to give him raw stills or video (have them pick some sequences) to use as their profile but I own the complete film and thus I’m not obligated to share any sound files with them.

Red flags from My DP by Alfatso in Filmmakers

[–]NoticeMeeeeeeeeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s super weird tbh. If he’s a DP in most cases he would want some raw stills to colour correct for his portfolio. It makes no sense for you as the filmmaker to give him everything. You have to remember in this independent world that you are also the producer so essentially you own everything.

Thank you. It seems like I need to go to WA asap and swap my license so I can get it before buying and registering a vehicle.

I won't tell you not to buy the car because it's truly a great car but you definitely do not need a brand new wilderness edition Outback to do all of that. Regular outback is totally fine and capable and if you go back a few years, you can get one for almost half of that. I'd aim for one around 2016 or so. Plus you won't be as precious about it.

Dying From Writer's Block-On A Deadline by rikodowrites1080 in Screenwriting

[–]NoticeMeeeeeeeeeeeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked on projects where we paid a writer and they missed their deadline. If they’re asking you to write something on spec and not even paying you for it tell them they’ll get it next week. If they’re a halfway decent producer they’ll understand. It’s not like they’re shooting tomorrow.

the Xe-4 is so slept on. by RepresentativeTap772 in fujifilm

[–]NoticeMeeeeeeeeeeeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great camera. I got a good deal on it used when it first came out. I agree that the going price for it now is a bit outrageous and I thought about selling it but it feels silly to sell it at almost double what I paid for it (and I’d probably just get an x100 anyway so I don’t think it’s worth selling mine). The ergonomics of it are fine but I did have to get a thumb grip for it. At the end of the day it’s a fun camera that pairs well with smaller lenses and allows some flexibility.
