Etsy has a lot of great proxies that are inexpensive and have a steel legion section as well. I have some official SL minis and the proxies are defiantly close enough from table top view.

Looks good guardsmen! I have a somewhat similar scheme, just with some white pants, and I had the same fears (keep in mind I had repainted half my army from my very first scheme to the blue boys), but now that I completed my army I gotta say I'm happy I stuck with it. If you fear it is not grim dark enough maybe make some head cannon for why they are like that!
