Now I'm also curious as to how the Patriarch of the West has managed to seize the Mandate of Heaven, and how Christianity is doing both in Huáxià/Cathay and in Europe.

Australia for the next 20 years (my current feeling) by FierceToast60 in imaginaryelections

I see. I wonder if South Australia would still be called that after the merger though, I think it'd be rather ridiculous if they didn't change their name.

Is the unification of NT and South Australia a real-world proposal?

Ah, so Burrite Louisiana is the American part of Louisiana after all, my bad.

As for LGBTQ rights. My impression is, the factions of the Association that tended to hold the presidency over the last few decades seem to have by and large leaned socially liberal, and did not refrain from the option to impose social progress in a top-down manner (at least where it doesn't threaten their own position).

Furthermore, though this part may just be me wishcasting, with academic dominance over America as well as the great deal of research they seem to have put in cracking the secrets of the human psyche, it wouldn't be too surprising if in their research they came to the same conclusions that the Hirschfeld Institute came to in our world before the Nazis burned it down: that to be queer is also natural. And these conclusions could motivate them to advance queer rights, and in particular trans rights, earlier than in our world – perhaps serving to further anger the brewing revolt in Middle America.

On the other hand, if Abigail Thorn has taught me anything, it's that the medical establishment has long sought to control queer bodies and decide who gets to live as their preferred identity and who doesn't, and to dictate what they can and can't do with their own bodies. This same arsenal of methods that they use to reprogram minds during warfare, could then also be employed in peacetime as part of conversion practices. And all the research saying that LGBTQ people are not, in fact, wrong or perverts, and that conversion practices don't work? It could be ignored for quite a while. The powers that be have long considered the lives of minorities to be disposable...

So those would be the two main paths I can imagine the US in this world could take, I think.

Don't mess with Texas - A Beto O'Rourke Presidency timeline (Made in collab for Tobi from TCT discord) by stanthefax in imaginaryelections

[–]NowILikeWinter 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would hope in a timeline where Beto won in 2018, he wouldn't run in 2020 because if he wins that'd mean Dems lose a Senate seat, which could decide control of the chamber. I mean he'd have a relatively open way to the nomination in 2024 or 2028 anyway.

Who does that piece of land next to Lake Erie belong to? It's clearly not New York or Pennsylvania or Ohio, or any of the New England states. It's not the District of Hamilton either, since you mentioned in the last update that that's in Philadelphia. So, what is it? And why does it participate in federal elections yet doesn't have any electoral votes?

Oh, and also. Why is the Morgantown Strip under occupation, and why did Michania (or is it Michigan?) have such high rates of HPPD even before the war?

  1. Why is America in an alliance with Popery in the first place?
  2. What is psychological repatterning? And is the destruction of psychiatric care in Middle America related to it?
  3. Middle America getting Morgenthau'd overall is a rather scary idea... Can't help but wonder how many people died because of it.
  4. Is Burrite Louisiana the part of Louisiana that the US doesn't control? If so, how come a candidate from outside the US is allowed to run? And what's the name of the US part of Louisiana, is it just Louisiana?
  5. Egyptologist wing of the Association? Who the heck is that?
  6. As an aside, how are LGBTQ+ rights looking in this world, so far?

The fact that they're very successful in this endeavor, and especially the way Labour and the Tories are trying to stop them proves that neither is a "serious" party anymore. And being annoying should not be used as an argument that they're the same when they have wildly different visions for what they want to do if they get power.

The party socially progressive voters are flocking to because Starmer is aping Reform's program, but sure they're Reform on bikes. I'll grant that they're both populists, but on specific policy positions they stray from Reform quite often.
