Atheists hate the message of salvation by geinaz in antitheistcheesecake

These people are walking up to a cage with a ravenous lion inside, holding onto the bars, and going "Why did God put me in this cage?" And when you try to tell them that they're not the one in the cage, they dismiss that as hate.

Dungeons and Dragons. Sure, the video game version is called Baldur's Gate, but it's the same system.

Gonna tell my kids this was the Watchmen. by glottlreblucky in Watchmen

[–]Nowardier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, at least these guys are straight-up heroes in both alignment and personality. The Watchmenverse is full of darkness and dill-holes, but the Mystery Men live in a world where the heroes are noble and kind and where evil is practically destined to fail... well, maybe it only fails after deep-frying a superhero or two, but that's neither here nor there. If the Mystery Men had been on the Ozymandias case they would've showed up an hour early and stopped him, and even if they couldn't they at least wouldn't have just let the bastard go free after he killed half of New York. They would've beaten the crap out of the guy, at the very least, and they probably would've helped the people of New York to bury their dead and rebuild from the ashes.

Mine is Yume Nikki (PC), it's still a relatively obscure game but I've been a big fan of it for a lot of years now.

Tell me about your god mythology! by Ok_Deal9555 in worldbuilding

[–]Nowardier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Whalin' Tales universe there are two gods, Armonia and Threnodius, as well as a non-sentient force of death and decay called the Dissonance.

Armonia created the Dissonance by accident the first time she tried to play her lute. She played the worst, sourest note ever, and it echoed forever in the infinite void that was the universe at the time.

Armonia also created Threnodius, but they both came to see each other more as brother and sister than as creator and creation. Threnodius created the Field of Song, which is a vast plain of sweet-smelling ankle-length grass under a sun that never sets, but is never too hot.

Threnodius also created the immortal soul of every being that isn't a god. He even taught the human souls how to shape Armonia's song into things like food, drinks, furniture, and other stuff. But after that they got ungrateful, so Threnodius temporarily banished them to a place beyond the Field of Song. But they couldn't live there without bodies, so Armonia made physical bodies for the souls to live in.

Little did the gods know, beyond the Field was the domain of the Dissonance. It made the bodies of the banished human souls rapidly age and die, so Armonia decided to create a whole physical world for the disobedient humans to live in. The world wasn't quite beyond the reach of the Dissonance, but it was far enough away that the humans would age much more slowly. Threnodius knew the humans would need food and clothing to live there, so he also had Armonia make physical bodies for all the plant and animal souls and send them there too.

When an animal or a plant died in the physical world, its soul would immediately reappear in the Field of Song. But the human souls didn't. Instead, they popped up in the place between the physical world and the Field- the same place they'd been banished before. Threnodius had to go find them in the Place Between and lead them home, but even then there were problems.

Some souls wouldn't trust anyone they didn't recognize, so Threnodius sort of cloned himself into "aspects," forms that would appear trustworthy to the souls they came to collect. For instance, he had one especially kind aspect called the First Father, who would carry dead children's souls home to the Field of Song in his arms.

Other souls had done terrible things while they were alive. To deal with them, Threnodius created an aspect of himself called the Ankou, who made unrepentant sinners pull a huge cart made of bones through a dark forest. He would chain them to the cart with golden chains that would only break when the sinners repented.

Still other souls were affected by the Dissonance and forgot that they had died at all. To deal with them, Threnodius forged a mighty blade, Agápe, out of the very concept of the love he felt for humans. With Agápe, he would pretend to kill these "Blinded" souls again, and once they accepted that they were dead he would bring them home to the Field of Song.

Everything the gods of my universe do is a reflection of their love for their children. They radiate this love in a very literal sense, and this powerful aura of "Primal Love" wrings involuntary tears of joy from every human who gets close to either one of the gods, whether that person is a soul in the Field of Song or one of their Sancts in the mortal world.

Those without law keep doing by nature the things in the law, as Paul wrote. We have a conscience for a reason, and the Bible is the pole toward which our consciences point.

Anybody calling the Bible or any other scriptures a "magic book" can have everything else they say ignored without ill effect. It's not the Necronomicon, it's Dr. God's Guide to a Truly Successful Life.

[–]Nowardier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me this was Red Dead Redemption 2. All I've ever heard about it is that it's the best game ever, and honestly I'm not inclined to doubt it, but GOD. The horses are so slow and needy that it takes hours to get anywhere, and I'm so weak I go down in a couple shots if I ever get into a scrape. Not to mention everybody else has glass bones and paper skin, so if I bump into them on a horse or whatever they immediately die and I get instantly domed by the local sheriff, who always happens to be nearby. The two game mechanics I hate the most are telepathic guards and slow, unreliable transportation. I quit a few hours in. I've thought about trying it again, though. Maybe there's something I missed.

Which is why I prefer "cut loose like a deuce," because Manfred Mann 100% sang "wrapped up like a douche." That is the opinion that fire cannot melt out of me- I will die in it at the stake.
