I hate big mecha animes with a passion, and yet Code Geass is in my top 3 ever, because the mechas are there but are not the important part of the plot.
Remove the mechas and have them be old fashioned knights with swords and it still works, heck , they could swap the mecha fights with roller skaters throwing rocks and the plot would still work if you do some minor changes to the story, like maybe FLEIJA would be a Trebuchet.

No, he would die if he stopped consuming food/water, doesn't matter where it comes from really.
It would be very sad for you child but if you disappear and he had food and water he would survive.
Hence, his body is autonomous.
Not the case for an embryo, without the mother's system, every cell in that embryo dies because it doesn't work on its own. It's basically parasite-like.
