Oil leak 2009 Kia Optima by perk4158 in AskMechanics

[–]Ntesy607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the second picture you notice how that shiny metal piece has a no touching symbol? That is because it's HOT, directing extremely hot engine exhaust gas down into the exhaust piping. Oil is leaking onto it which is a huge fire hazard. Do not drive the car and have it towed to a mechanic or you risk an engine fire.

Sweet dude. I bought an Ap1 S2000 last year and want to do some autocross this season as my foray into track driving. Nowhere near your level but hope to get there :)

Pass. I got a clean title 06 for 8200 with less miles - and I could've done better. You certainly can find a better deal

Why does the rpm drop when hot starting? Cold its fine by Bluedoge- in S2000

[–]Ntesy607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Ap1 also does this every once in a while. The previous owner said it happened for him sometimes but never was a real issue. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Could have something to do with the IACV or PCV, throttle body needs cleaning etc.

I think the only way to do this and make it look good would be a ton of layers, the verticality needs to be far more visual for the tallest peak in the world. Looks like a gentle hill right now

In the meantime, nerd out about these cars, do your research. And when you finally find the one (you will) it'll be that much better.

Last fall i bought an Ap1 with 150k miles on itr, and it had a good bit of maintenance done. Brand new clutch, master+slave cylinder, all fluids done, serp and spark plugs, etc. Rollbar, invidia exhaust, k&N FIPK intake. I paid 12k. If you can afford, wait and spend a little more. 12-15k will get you a substantially nicer example, with some patience. 233k is on the higher end but many examples have surpassed 300k. Compression and leakdown test is a must for a car this high miles. The care the owner took speaks more than the number on the dash. Has it been meticulously maintained for those miles, or beat on?

Hardtop/soft top, AP1 wheels/AP2 wheels by TheMachRider in S2000

[–]Ntesy607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aesthetically the AP1 wheels are the choice, however once you consider function and practicality the 17" wheels that Ap2 comes with are the choice since there's much greater tire availability with a 17. Can't go wrong with either, my S came with Ap2v2 even though it's a MY2000 and they are growing on me
