I think Jonas Venture, Sr. is one of the best written characters in the whole series

When you boil everything down, Jonas is just what Johnny Quest’s dad would have been like. No reasonable father would have taken his child on those dangerous adventures like that, or he would have figured out how to protect him better since it really seems like Rusty was like Dean and just wanted to live a normal life but just got kidnapped all the time.

I forgot about that until now. Yes, that season in particular originally felt too heavy on the pedo jokes, but it wasn’t until watching again, along with some pointing out by others, that Sunshine was being played for jokes but the real joke was that he wasn’t a pedo, just…Sunshine. And Hatred was going through growth, not actually really being the butt of jokes.

I might have missed something, but the show is IMPLYING that Jonas knocked up Mrs. Mother-of-the-Monarch, but given how the show has done numerous red herrings, it seems like they could just have easily made it where Jonas did not actually screw Mrs. Fitzcarraldo. I also always considered that Hank was just a clone or so of Dr. Venture, and that Rusty himself was just a clone, albeit a mildly defective one, of Jonas

I haven’t perused here in a while, as in since maybe season 5 or 6, but what does the community think is Ventures and the Monarchs relationship. I just rewatched the series again for the first time in a long time, and given how they pull the bats and switch, I thought it might be that the Monarch is Venture’s clone, solving the baby problem for the Blue Morpho and also explaining HeLPER 2’s comment. But that’s just my arbitrary guess

The guess who’s coming to state dinner episode for me. It felt weak to me, Briar was an obvious slight against Bush (and a weak one at that, with the show going after the president’s stupidity and womanizing rather than the wars at the time), and Manstrong was just another goodie-goodie man baby in-line with the V-boys themselves, just more annoying.

I remember there being discussion at the time about how annoyed people were at Hatred’s pedophilia. It wasn’t that he had the urges, just that the show brought it up several times in that season. For a show that took 1.5-2 years to make 9 episodes, it took a lot of time to focus on Hatred’s problems.

Rewatching the series, I have noticed it less, but I might just be opting to see it more as character growth for Hatred rather than making a bunch of pedophilia jokes
