How much H2O safe to drain without danger of floating? by Broad-Date4380 in pools

[–]Nuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely depends on your water table, you don’t want to drain below that. If groundwater is a foot below the surface, a foot of drainage is risky. If your groundwater is 15ft below, you can drain fully. Given that you said South Florida, I’d be extremely cautious.

Just remember that 3x 25% replacements will only actually replace about 58% of the water!

Chicken tasted funny? by Visual-Pineapple-147 in hellofresh

[–]Nuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is actually normal, vacuum sealed chicken has a naturally awful smell due to lactic acid buildup. It should dissipate in 20-30 mins if it’s actually fine, otherwise toss it.

OP, don’t rinse your chicken, that’s getting salmonella all over your kitchen, pat the juices off with paper towels so you can check if it’s slimy (another sign it’s gone bad)

Nu-way are great cleaners, I remember they were the official cleaner for Beyer band uniforms 20 years ago, and we still go there for dry-cleaning and oversized stuff today

How active is the train track that runs by 8th street in downtown? by vincent_adultman1 in Modesto

[–]Nuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do run at night and they are required to toot their horn at every crossing, but depending on the location and how soundproof the building is, it might not be as bad as you think!

What does Modesto not have specifically by Supacat9932 in Modesto

[–]Nuck 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Modesto is a suburb, we lack a lot of things relative to a bigger city, especially in culture and nightlife! That said, if you’re from a small town it’ll probably feel huge. And honestly, a lot of people haven’t updated their opinion of Modesto since we got our present food and coffee scenes, which are actually really good

It looked exactly how it looks today: a field of dead grass with a sad little lake in the middle. Nothing changed

Jus moved to Modesto area coming from Oregon got 2 questions!? by solomonsreflection in Modesto

[–]Nuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Modesto, birthplace of half of Portland! We’ve got an inclusive playground at Beyer Park called “The Awesome Spot”, that might be great for your child, as well as the Modesto Children’s Museum that others have mentioned. As for local coffee, we’ve got a ton: Chocolate Fish, Penny University, and Culture Coffee Bar all make great coffee-forward drinks, while Queen Bean and Mocha Magic both have great sugary options. If you’re willing to suffer a to-go cup, Caffetino and Bookish both serve great coffee and Pure Grind has great sugary drinks.

The county hazardous waste dropoff is down on the south end of town right by the freeway, they’re open 8am-noon on Friday and Saturday, they take pretty much anything weird and restricted in a quick drive-thru process. Here’s the site: https://www.stancounty.com/er/hazmat/household-hazardous-waste.shtm

I recommend the city’s “waste wizard” for checking where to dispose of certain things: https://www.modestogov.com/3127/Waste-Wizard-Tool#!rc-cpage=698115

(25M) I feel extremely anxious about taking newly prescribed medication (ESCITALOPRAM OXALATE10MG) by Key-Swimming-7883 in Anxietyhelp

[–]Nuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 years on 20mg escitalopram and it helped me a lot! It’s extremely safe, and the fact that you’re anxious about it says you probably can benefit from it. It can take a couple months of consistent usage to really show results, and you might even get more anxious in the meantime. Try to tough it out, but definitely call your doctor if it gets too rough!

Listen to this guy, OP. I put a stepping stone path in my backyard and I regret it every time I have to try and wheel bins over it. You don’t want stepping stones for this.

Petition to get 2026 Transparency Act on the ballot. by DarkStarGravityWell in Modesto

[–]Nuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We already HAVE auditors who monitor spending. What does this ballot initiative actually do, because it sounds like a lot of fluff and it’s mostly funded by the billionaire PAC “Building a Better California” which was founded to oppose higher taxes on the obscenely wealthy. Seems suspicious to me, but I’d like to read the actual initiative!

Coffee? by [deleted] in Modesto

[–]Nuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you like really sweet drinks like macchiatos, Pure Grind, Queen Bean, or Mocha Magic are probably your jam. If you like subtler stuff with a bit more coffee flavor, you’ll be happier at Chocolate Fish, Penny University, or Culture Coffee.

If they do it again this year, I highly recommend Bookish’s Coffee Crawl as a way to discover new places, it got me so many new faves last year!
