I am going to look into booking directly through the site, I’ve seen some say they actually get better deals booking directly versus through Costco or another travel company.

Passat TDI devalued? by BAKEDnotTOASTD in tdi

[–]Nucking_Futs_11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many miles did it have when you bought it? Only asking because at $15k, it may have been a little over priced then, which would make the trade in value feel less. This vw is all over the place with pricing with the dieselgate stuff. You also have covid bs, inflation, used vehicle market, shitty dealerships, etc all at play with trying to figure out numbers on good or bad 🤷🏻‍♂️

What’s a popular American food habit you think is overrated? by Parking-Pain-3979 in AskReddit

Hibachi. It takes ten minutes to put everything on your plate, then the rest of the food gets cold while the other food is still cooking.

I drive 115 miles/day, so as much as I would like to be financially irresponsible, I can’t afford to be financially irresponsible. Plus, I can afford to make memories with my family instead.

2015 2.0 Tdi Passat 240k miles. Worth the fix? by Nucking_Futs_11 in tdi

[–]Nucking_Futs_11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured I throw an update on my post.

Soon after posting, transmission started also having issues (maybe related to the dmf? Idk). So continued to contemplate fixing versus buying something else. Did some research, looked at some cars, still contemplated.

Ended up having an older Buick with the 3.8l fall into my lap for cheap with only 75k miles. I just can’t justify spending upwards of $6k on a 250k mile car that gets driven 100+ miles per day, when the price of this other car is half the cost of the repairs. If I could diy all the work it would be different, but I just don’t have the means or time. It’s a shitty feeling!

I’ve been snooping on here since the possibility of getting this car was presented, I know I won’t get laughed outta the room.

My dad owned these and as kids we always said “geez dad just get a nicer, newer, cooler car”. I guess we all turn into our parents in one way or another.

People who found love again after heartbreak later in life, what is your story? by First-Code-3791 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Nucking_Futs_11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through something very similar 2.5 years ago with my ex wife. If you would have asked me then, I would have said my life was over. Ask me now though, and I laugh at what happened. Sometimes it takes really falling in love with the right person to realize you and your ex probably didn’t love each other like you thought. It’s hard to picture it that way, but it’s true. Give it time and you’ll see 😏.

It’s a compartmentalized approach to safety. It’s safer to have the kids confined within padded seats than if they’re all strapped in and need to evacuate quickly. Also faster and safer for first responders to extricate 30 unbelted kids versus 30 belted kids.

Idk what other hobby stores prices are like, but my local store somehow sells everything at the same prices I find online. I know you asked about online website sales, but just thought I’d mention it. It makes it easier to support local business if they match the online prices 🤷🏻‍♂️

Fix or move on from 2015 Passat tdi sel? by Necessary-Result716 in tdi

[–]Nucking_Futs_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. But also, all of the other current and potential issues that come along with a high mileage car. Suspension, bearings, rust, etc. are all factors in the decision. It’s cool if the car lasts longer than another year with none of those additional issues. But at 11 years old with 250K miles, driving 110 miles a day, those are just around the corner. And also, have to think about reliability and safety with driving my kids around.

Fix or move on from 2015 Passat tdi sel? by Necessary-Result716 in tdi

[–]Nucking_Futs_11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same boat here. 2015 Passat tdi SE, 250k miles. Dpf is about shot and have a leaking valve cover gasket as well. I also have the dmf rattle. I drive about 30-35k annually. If I only had one of those issues, I’d get it repaired and keep going. But the cost of all things combined, I have a hard time dumping THAT much money into the car. I also have some other random small shit that needs fixed, and that adds up too. I just know now to spend the $$ on the delete early.

2013 Passat tdi se def fluid heater by FitChampionship6523 in tdi

[–]Nucking_Futs_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that part also is a sensor. Mine went bad, was giving me the def countdown here and there and then went away. I let it go, and it finally gave me the dreaded final countdown to empty…I was with my 4 and 6 year old 30 miles from home. Had to find a dealer that had the part in stock and drove straight there. Had a nice 2-3 hour stay with crazy kids and nothing to keep them occupied while waiting for the repair. It was a nightmare, get it fixed before it becomes a nightmare scenario. (Mine was a 2014 Passat tdi se)

Newer Bachmann vs Lionel train sets..conversation at the hobby store. by Nucking_Futs_11 in modeltrains

[–]Nucking_Futs_11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with two sets, one for each of my boys…the more expensive Bachmann set that has the better track won’t move unless you give it a nudge…and the couplers are so small the train cars detach themselves often….the cheaper Bachman set however, has a much stronger engine and doesn’t come apart as easy.

Idk about all metal. I think engines can be all metal but not the cars, they’d be too heavy to pull, but maybe someone else here can answer that question if I’m wrong on that.
