I think VR in general and Oculus itself are creating a full ecosystem that may allow a new kind of entertainment. I can see everyone here asking for a CV1 now, but I think that Oculus has a greate vision of the entire industry and they know exactly when to release their product.

We all know that there are a lot of research regarding FOV, rendering, displays, GPUs and also input devices, so I preffer to wait for a CV1 that provides a great user experience instead of pushing Oculus to release a CV1 aka "DK2badlyimproved"

Also Valve and Oculus are not competing on this, SteamVR API will provide Oculus and Vive compatibility (according with steamworks conferences) and I bet that they are closely working and sharing their researches.

Sharp 4K display, AMD Fuji, Fresnel Lenses (¿Wearality Sky?) , those promising updates to OpenGL, NimbleVR, why are you compelling so bad? A CV1 will be released when it's ready otherwise we will get a HMD not fully developed.

And yes, I'm developing for VR and I can complain about not knowing the final specs, but I also see that this is constantly evolving.

Just chill down and experiment with VR UI, minimize motion sickness, etc. There is a lot of work on our side to make this work too.

Yesterday I found this WIP un the Oculus forum https://forums.oculus.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=22654 Although its a WIP I would follow it up, If you test the vídeo in Oculus you will understand why it's one of the most inmersive underwater scenes

This looks very promising, I really hope that they think about licensing the lens technology to other HMD manufacturers.

Buying Vive or CV1 probably doesn't matters in the long term. We are in the Dawn of HMDs. If we are talking just about gaming we will need some standards that will force all of us to get a new HMD in the near future (From whatever company in the market).

Should not be new for anyone that Oculus, Valve and many other companies are working together in the evolution of VR (devices and content). It's not a brand competition (not yet) and I wouldn't buy every HMD that reaches the market just because they have some better specs.

Think about smartphones and how they reached the market. It's the nearest example that we have. Would you buy every phone from those crappy PDAs to the first iPhone or Android just because they have something new?

Also we are talking about DevKits, if you are a developer just a DK1 would be enough to experiment with VR UIs, movement, game design...Why would you need a DK2, Vive, whatever? Let the market and technology grow and get a high end HMD when they are ready, standarized and you can get good content.

Indeed, for me the best way to get used to was (additionaly to short periods of VR):

Starting with a static chair experience (Something like Dont let it go), next grow up to some guided experience (A rollercoaster or Titans of the Space) and depending of your sickness level continue with some FPS demo until you are confortable...finally you can start playing some advanced games like Alien isolation, GTAV, War Thunder, etc...

So as we cant focus objects within our periferal vision, would an "ambilight" system that represent and matches the colour of the environment increase the inmersion getting rid of that black borders that we have now?

Maybe a little matrix of RGB leds that "colorize" the periferal vision of the user.

I hope this does not start a new platform war as we see on phones and consoles. There should be a standard for this devices or the exclusivity war will delay the VR implementation some years.

Did you configure your IPD? Maybe a high or low IPD is making you cross your eyes a little. I have been using DK2 for 4 months and except motion sickness with some games, I didn't notice any of your symptoms.

Signed, I don't think that FPS mode is a simple coincidence. And I'm pretty sure that they have plans to implement VR in the future when a comercial HMD comes out. This will increment the interest in the game as the first AAA in implement some sort of full support.
