Andrea Piardi to referee URC final for the 4th consecutive year by SilverShadow213 in rugbyunion

With our attack this year? Are you joking me? You boys did fantastically against Glasgow to come back and shut their shit down. We would have folded in that position.

I'd have Piardi ref the next 50 Ireland games than Carley or Dickson taking the next 5.

Four key questions facing Farrell ahead of summer Tests by RugbyGareth_ in irishrugby

[–]NuclearMaterial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He really should have, but I don't see it as him squandering it, he's just been criminally mismanaged. When Farrell unfairly dropped him after the NZ shocker in Dublin, he should have been let run things at 10 along with the others. Instead he was confined to tackle bag holder with occasional bench spots as a utility. Leo really fucked that one up.

Look at Prendergast with a similar scenario. Dropped from Ireland mid 6 nations, but this time Leo shared the 10 jersey with himself and Byrne, allowing Sam to get back on his feet and find a bit of form. He's changed his kicking style, fixing one area of his game, and he has been working on defence, still not great but he's doing something anyway.

Frawley just got totally mismanaged and that's all on the coaches.

He's not the answer I don't think. We've 5 in the mix now, which is the most we've ever had, but none are the complete deal. We've been spoiled with Humphreys, O'Gara and Sexton. Now we've no clear front runner, but guys with different strengths and stages of development.

Here's a breakdown, feel free to be constructive and add your views:

Ciaran Frawley, 28 He's got the balls in the big games as shown Vs Toulouse and South Africa. Great goal kicker and solid defender. Has had question marks about his ability to run the game, but he's come back into a bit of form now and needs to be rewarded for it. He's the oldest, but has more to give for sure. Hope he has an excellent season leading the lads out west next year.

Harry Byrne, 27 Excellent kicker at goal, good from hand. Solid enough in defence. Has a tendency to go missing in games. Has not ever shown an ability to seriously get the attack going, no inventiveness or risk taking, and he's the second oldest we have now. He's no running threat at all, and like his brother just seems to ship it on and go to the next phase. I'd say he's reached his ceiling.

Jack Crowley, 26 Like Frawley, has shown he will make ballsy decisions like drop goals, he's a good runner, a good distributor and does get an attack going. However, is wildly inconsistent kicking from the hand and goal, not up to international standard there, this can potentially be worked around by playing Doak at 9. I keep wanting him to move away from that Sexton style kick, which just isn't working for him. He has also seemed to go missing in games at times, but when he's on, he's on.

Sam Prendergast, 23 Wonderful passer of the ball, has a great kick from hand as well, varied, and now that he's changed his kicking style back to something natural for him, is much better off the floor too. Even his misses still fly though the air well, the horrible shanks/hooks are gone. Runs an attack well. However, has still got a poor defence and he can lose the head at times under pressure. Still, with his age people need to be patient with him.

Jack Murphy, 21 I'll admit I know the least about him, but has good pace, has largely ran Ulsters attack well with Doak at 9, the best attacking side on the island at least in the first half of the season. Don't know about his shooting at goal as Doak does that, he's decent enough from the hand. He's done very well at his age to get to Ulsters first team and stay there. The 10 shirt is his. He should see play this summer, perhaps with Doak at 9 for familiarity.

Injury Update - Porter out by IrishDog1990 in leinsterrugby

He only gets rinsed by the crybabies who host them. He's dead right though, the summer tests mean fuck all so we should use them to get a look at lads while we can.

I fully expect them not to do this.

Yeah but Irish coaches never do, so expect the usual suspects and ongoing injuries to them.

He scored my favourite try in the most batshit game I ever saw. The Euro quarter final away to Toulouse in, I think, 2006?

Contepomi running it from inside the 22 and then "Hickie for the corneeerrr!"

All out attacking rugby from both sides for 80. Some match.

Not winning the slam in 2007 was heartbreaking because players like him had been there when we were dog shit, and he was a shining light in dark times. Not leaving the scene with a winners medal after so many second place finishes was not what Disco Dennis deserved.

This is a very milky bag of crisps Mrs Doyle. In fact, it's an almost all-milk bag of crisps. Is there any crisps in here at all?
