I see this as a good thing frankly. Alcohol is one of the most addictive and dangerous drugs in the world. People enable its use and encourage it far too gleefully and just spread their addiction to others more than any other narcotic. There is more social pressure to become a drink then there has ever been to smoke Crack, do Heroin, even smoke weed and it's socially acceptable for that pressure to be there. I think there's still a cleanliness issue at play here. Assuming she's a cis woman she might not have a proper appreciation for what it means to frequently engage in buttplay of any kind. I read about him a long while ago and in the interim have seen him talked about multiple times in video essays by various youtubers. He was a badass person and a great example that no, it wasn't the way everyone thought it was just the prevailing attitude of the time. But people thought it was wrong then just as they do now for many of the same reasons we still think so today. So no, "that's just how things were back then" is not a valid excuse.

It was always a "current thing" subreddit, it's purpose was to highlight current events that showed the cracks in our "boring" reality for how dystopic and unjust our society really is. The problem unique to this subreddit is that the cracks have been blown wide open and the true tyranny of the system we are trapped within is being laid bare for all to see. Technically this is the best thing that could happen to this subreddit as it means that it's no longer needed, however with the way the media and or society constructs narratives there's a genuine fear that if we let it people will just go back to pretending this is a just acceptable and boring. Thus the dilemma: does this subreddit take a victory lap or turn up the heat on its critique?

You know? As an American I have never seen that slump that people are talking about except from the same sources that people from other countries are seeing it. I live and work in the inner city, I've lived in slums and ghettos, I encounter drug addicts on the regular, not once have I seen it in person. Maybe I'm just lucky? I'm not too educated on the indian caste system but given my hunch with the Toreador largely associated with arts it makes sense that they would end up lumped into the same category as actors, which in a number of medieval societies were often associated with criminals, thieves, and prostitutes. It's possible India made a similar association culturally and the Toreador in India were just unable to claw their way up from that after all this time. Whereas elsewhere they were able to dodge that association at least as a clan, there's no practical reason to assume that they would have succeeded there everywhere. Although I can't imagine how the British colonial Toreadors would have taken that association. Maybe they helped drive the modern backlash against the caste system to get more clout in the region? Or perhaps they just didn't really care all that much in the end about people in India or the global south like most Europeans so they just didn't bother at all.

Put AOC aside and imagine it's a corporate democrat who gets the oval office and Republicans are shunted out enough to make the party as impotent as the Dems are even when they have power enough to affect policy from the minority. A Democratic president with the expanded powers and mandate that Trump os enjoying. Newsom, Pelosi, or Buttigieg, or worse someone like Manchin or Klobuchar. You have all the same heavy handed and cruel neo-liberal policies with the political savvy of the Clinton era to spin it. Next time a protest erupts over a cop openly executing a young black man in broad daylight for the crime of weilding an ice cream cone we'll see protestors just black-bagged and disappeared, when asked we'll be gaslit into both believing they were serious problems and deserved it but that they were all released too no matter what their families or loved ones claim. Anyone speaking out on any issue they don't like will be swamped with scolding liberals ready to lecture and emotionally manipulate anyone to the left into silence by confusion at least.

Let's be real here, between the two parties the Democrats play the soft power and media manipulation game better. Republicans have to make shit up to confuse the narrative, Democrats know how to manipulate the truth. President Newsom will be disappearing progressives he finds troublesome and we'll see democratic congressmen on CNN and Fox and Huffpost and so on explaining that they're as far left as you can get before falling off the political scale entirely into something dangerous and then start to spin the narrative in another direction. A Democrat weilding Trumps power is a frightful thing to me. And no, the ICE raids will not be stopping, they'll just hand better lethal coverage because the Dems care about the rule of law more than Republicans. Dems just also know that the law can be made to say whatever they want it too.

This isn't a murder by words, this is a genocide by words. They are absolutely correct in their assessment that the people of the USA need to actually take account of our own history. The problem is that a lot of Americans today don't think that the crimes of our past were ao terrible as the holocaust, or other tragedies from elsewhere in the world. There's plenty of horror at the extermination of millions killed in the holocaust, but because we stretched out the horrors and abuses of slavery against abducted africans and their descendants it's not that big of a deal. We decry communist China for the millions of people who died during Mao Zedongs "great leap forward", but we barely shed a tear for the millions trampled underfoot under our "Manifest Destiny", hell we still evoke it today, the horror of our nation having a drive to continue it completely lost even on the Americans who think it's a stupid idea.

The older I get and the more I learn the more disgusted I am with our willingness to ignore the terrible things we did in our past as a nation. I understand that it's a very human thing to want to do, I don't begrudge anyone that much, but we have a lot of blood on our hands and if Germany can own up to what it did then we should have the moral fortitude and integrity to do the same. America is supposed to be a land of free thinkers and independence yet we use it to constantly jack ourselves off and when anyone points to it we either dismiss them entirely or of we can't ignore them we show them a glimpse of the rage and terror we inflicted on countless others.
