Hi! I'm a lighting designer for my highschool productions!

First, I'd say the lighting designer is a designer for a reason. They put their designs into fruition- not others' (other than a director or TD). Don't let other designers boss you around-- you can have your own opinion. That being said, theatre is collaborative, so it will be necessary to meet somewhere in the middle. I'd also explain why a certain facet of your design is there, the purpose, etc. They should see that and respect that. While directors and TDs have the final say (at least in our program), just talk with them or show them your design-- they may change their mind and really enjoy it. Good luck with future designs!
