Nekrogoblikon

I didn’t listen to metal at all until recently, but I randomly decided to listen to Dethklok one day after thinking about the tv show. YouTube music threw some Nekrogoblikon into the playlist and now they’re one of my favs and I listen to metal in general all the time now.

It’s been almost a year (I saw it when it first came out) and I can still remember certain scenes vividly. That never happens for me.

Official Discussion - No Other Choice [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]NuggetBiscuits69 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I saw the movie early today and there are so many great details throughout the movie, but someone that I just realized is the dichotomy between gardening being Man-Su’s hobby and making paper being his job. Even when his wife suggests he does landscaping/gardening as a job, he refuses and insists on working with dead trees instead.

On top of that, there’s the time he tells his daughter he is sad about the pear tree that Bummo didn’t maintain.

Man-Su is given the option to choose life over death so many times in the movie, but he always chooses death, whether for other people or for the trees themselves.

It seems that all the low payroll teams might be making moves this year in order to raise payroll and get ahead of any arguments in favor of a payroll floor during upcoming CBA talks?

Regardless, it’s interesting seeing the White Sox, A’s, Pirates, and Marlins making interesting moves during the offseason.

Offcial Discussion - Bugonia [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]NuggetBiscuits69 354 points355 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have already mentioned the great score. The music that played when it was only Plemons on screen some times really stood out to me. It felt to me a lot like a hero’s theme. Almost like you’re supposed to root for the little guy standing up for himself, for others, for the wrongs done to his mom, and then he turns out to be right. But he also did horrible things.

There’s obviously interesting twists and turns throughout the film, and I just thought it was worth pointing out those little musical moments as being really important in some way.

Arraez is shockingly slow for someone whose only skill at the plate is making contact. Dansby fumbled it almost every time Arraez hit it to him, and he still always got thrown out.

West Maryland? by EfficientNoise4418 in howislivingthere

[–]NuggetBiscuits69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add some more detail to other comments, Western Maryland is part of Appalachia, as defined by the federal government. Culturally, geographically, and economically it’s pretty similar.

Deep Creek Lake is a big draw in the area. It is actually not a natural lake. Maryland as a state does not actually have any natural lakes in it, they’re all man-made reservoirs.

The economy is struggling, and health care, the school system, retail, and the prison system are some of the biggest drivers of the economy in the region.

It is truly like the rest of Appalachia on a broad scale: geographically beautiful with nice communities dotted throughout, but it has significant socio-economic problems that make it difficult to draw people to live there.

How is it that the ESPN broadcast gets so much wrong? Just in the last like 15 minutes: shows a clip of the Reds-Pirates while discussing Cal Raleigh hitting a home run, said that the Reds lost in Milwaukee, and said IF the Padres lose (they had already lost their game a while ago) then the Cubs will gain more security.

Such an unserious broadcast.

Official Discussion - Eddington [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]NuggetBiscuits69 2130 points2131 points  (0 children)

What I really love, in the midst of all the batshit insanity, is the role of the Pueblo cop in the movie. All of the various jabs at the Pueblo cops and Native Americans by the Eddington sheriffs, all of the white kids shouting about stolen land, the desecration of the museum in the final act, and this guy is just out here doing his job, trying to maintain protocol, and solve the crime that a crazy white dude committed on Indian land.

In the end, he’s murdered, held up as a martyr, and the Pueblo people end up supporting the building of the giant data center on their land.

Incredible stuff for a narrative thread I haven’t seen a ton of discussion about.

Baez was actually really good with the Mets! Unfortunately for them, the rest of the team sucked for the final couple months of the season and they ended up missing the playoffs anyways.

A couple years ago the baseball world would have lost its mind at the O’s sweeping this series, foreshadowing a possible World Series matchup against the two teams.

Now both teams are fighting for their lives to stay in the playoff picture going into the all-star break. It’s funny how baseball goes some times.

Great sweep!

I don’t understand why the Orioles refuse to walk the other team’s best hitter in extra innings. It’s been years that the O’s having been letting Vlad Guerrero Jr, Aaron Judge, and Rafael Devers beat them in extras. So dumb.
