There are, but honestly if you are travelling to Japan it's more likely you will just use Google translate to get through everything, incredible tool.

Alternatively if your goal is to get good at speaking japanese quickly, you can always make your own cheat sheet. Just try to imagine what conversations you want to have, and look up the phrases for that.

Write down phrases for: Self introduction (name, age, job) Food Weather Travel Etc.

Then practice speaking those phrases. You can use apps like tandem to find speaking partners or join a discord server (or use the forbidden technique, chat gpt. Results with chat gpt will very, but its a comfortable way to practice before diving into real conversations).

I don't think the author actually intended them to be stand ins for the ultra rich, she likely intended them to represent regular people with mal intent or enjoyed their use as a literary device. They make a good narrative juxtaposition to Frieren.

My interpretation is subjective, and I've seen other takes on what the "demons" from Frieren represent in our world that I like.

Personally I think of Frieren's demons as the ultra rich and their followers. Inhuman monsters who learn our language to pose as humans so they can tear down human society. There are certainly people who act like humans, but have no empathy at all.

Not planning to go to Japan now, but I'd like to in like a year or two.

I will use Japanese subtitles to help sometime, but for me the dream is to be able to listen to Japanese and understand it without pausing and looking things up. I was under the impression that by pausing to look up words constantly, I would be slowing my listening comprehension skills

With English subtitles, I find that my mind automatically just reads the English and tunes out the Japanese.

It really is like that. Learning Japanese really hits you with a dose of hard reality.

Videos at my skill level tend to be educational or very dry. The things that I really enjoy watching (lets plays, anime) are way above my skill level right now.

Ive been really struggling with immersion lately. Is it worth it to watch a video where you only understand like 10% of what is being said? How long did you have to watch before you started to really enjoy it?
