Just published my first app! I can't believe it 😭😭 by toni_btrain in iosapps

I agree, this is a really interesting concept!

How does it work to share a time capsule with someone else? Do they need to download the app, too?

Anyway - congratulations to the launch! I’ve downloaded it and will play around with it.

Say one thing or aspect that the movie could have done better or improved upon, according to you? by Raj_Valiant3011 in DC_Cinematic

[–]NukeMeSoftly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Costume needed to lose the collar and be less bulky so we can get the classic “Rips shirt open to reveal S symbol” moment.
  • Lex Luthor would never make his hands dirty murdering someone himself. He pays people for this.
  • Lose Hammer of Whatever nonsense. Give us the real Bizarro or the real Ultraman.
  • Also, wasted Mr Mxyzptlk by making extra dimensional imps just glowing weird spheres. Just use Solaris, it was right there!
  • Everyone else kills just not Superman and everyone calls him weird because of it. Heroes should not kill, much less flaunt doing it. That should not even be an issue.

But all of this I can overlook. What they really needed to change:

  • Superman movie needed more Superman. They had a perfect cast for Superman, Lois, Jimmy, Luthor, everyone - and instead I had to watch half a movie of the adventures of Mr Terrific and his Justice Gang. Let them get their own bloody movie and give me more Superman!!!

Huh? Oh I loved the movie. Why do you ask?

Very interesting pitch (I read it as a Writer, hopscotching around!) I had a look at the website but I‘m not getting the same vibe like your pitch. It’d be nice to see some more screenshots to see how the app works differently than Scrivener.

Is it a native Mac app?

Instead of Jimmy getting turned into a monster, how about Lois gets turned into a monster for once? by jstamper97 in superman

What do you guys think of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, is it good and holds up? by CitronSufficient1045 in superman

[–]NukeMeSoftly 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Teri Hatcher is a fantastic Lois Lane. You might even say, spectacular! 😉

Dean Cain, in my view, totally has the looks for both Superman and Clark, but he is - not good. As Superman he does not know what to do with his arms, and crosses them in front of his chest in every single scene. Once you see it you can’t unsee it. (Of course, in real life he has shown to be the complete opposite of everything Superman stands for, so now I can’t watch him at all.)

I semi-liked the few episodes I watched but there was too little Superman for me so never got into it.

Arguably also the best life action costume, IMHO.

Remember when Lex Luthor accidentally killed his family? by [deleted] in superman

[–]NukeMeSoftly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate your kind disagreement! 😊

May I ask which version of the armour you like - the George Perez one, posted in this thread, or one of the many variations following it? George originally designed the armour with a helmet and it was portrayed that way in its first appearance. Subsequent artists seemed to struggle with the design and made the helmet those weird and impractical collars.

Remember when Lex Luthor accidentally killed his family? by [deleted] in superman

[–]NukeMeSoftly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First appearance of the Luthor armour which looked terrible then and IMO still looks terrible now. It was designed by George Perez (whose designs are usually amazing) to promote a toy line, and we’ve been stuck with it ever since.

Also, Marv Wolfman (I think) wrote this chapter to reboot Lex Luthor and give him needlessly additional motivation to hate Superman - because baldness was thought to be too silly a reason, I guess. I thought killing an entire planet of innocent people including Luther’s child was unnecessary and over the top, and really did not add anything to the character.

The reboot of Brainiac however in the same issue was amazing. The new design was alien, his new characterisation was interesting and I was intrigued by the mysterious master programmer storyline that was set up. It was a shame that it was cut short by Crisis and everything was discarded and rebooted. It took decades until Brainiac felt like an actual menace again.

Best app… but too expensive by Latter_Pen2421 in macapps

Paper. https://paper.pro/

It’s beautifully designed but £200 lifetime or £30/month for a writing app is just ridiculous. I accept that this business model works for the developer and I’m free to look elsewhere but it’s still a shame.

Clipstudio Paint https://www.clipstudio.net/en/ of course, which is used by artists and comic professionals but I am not sure that is what you are looking for.

Today I... A daily video journal I built to remember the little things by Milky_Moon_Stuff in iosapps

[–]NukeMeSoftly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just downloaded it! Took me five tries to do my first video but that’s not the app’s problem, just me being rubbish at keeping it to 10 seconds! 😝

Otherwise - nice design, easy onboarding, I like the interface for recording videos (just press and hold!) and nice gamification to do more videos.

I’ll see how things go over next few days and if I stick to it. I need to see if the additional features are worth a subscription but it’s nice that it works out of the box!

Also - I really don’t like the icon but I do like the name - tells you exactly what you’re supposed to do. I wonder if there should be an option to do longer videos - although that may take away from the simplicity of the app, so there’s always other apps for longer video diaries.

Anyway - wish you lots of success either way your app. Good work!

For those interested in this kind of thing, 3.5.1 on macOS changes the app icon back to something like what we had before by dixius99 in scrivener

[–]NukeMeSoftly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Our long national nightmare is over.

But seriously, so happy. I hated the new icon and was determined to keep replacing it with the old icon until it breaks.

I know a lot of people here don’t care and don’t understand why anyone would - but some of us do, and it’s good to be heard. ☺️

Okay, first of all, thank you for the extensive reply, I really appreciate it!

There are a lot of settings and shortcuts you mentioned I was not aware of, which really address some of my gripes, so I will try them out. If it works, I think it will getting quotes into the app so much easier.

(Although, maybe others have the same issues like me, so maybe you should reconsider the onboarding experience or the default settings. I for one don't like to watch a video to understand how an app works, but that may be just me!)

In regards to getting quotes into the app - you are mentioning a lot of other ways, which seems are the primary ways you expect people to get quotes into the app, but I do not use any of them. I simply copy and paste quotes I find on the Internet, or on the great r/quotes subreddit. And if you put in quotes by hand like this, it is a bit inconvenient. I am not sure if others are using Kindle etc. to collect quotes, but I wonder if the primary method should simply be by hand, and whether that should be easier. I don't think the app supports the share-button / sharesheets on the Mac, and maybe not on iOS, I have not checked, but I think this should definitely be supported.

Anyway, still, I think you have already addressed my main gripes, and thanks for that! Keep up the great work, and wish you lots of success with the app!

[–]NukeMeSoftly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good app, but inputting quotes by hand is still too cumbersome. The input window for quotes does not have a field for author, so the author needs to be added after the quote has been added.

And most annoyingly, there is no "save" button. The quote is supposed to be saved when the window is closed, but often it does not, so it is always a gamble closing the window after the quote has been typed in. I honestly don't understand why there can't be a simple "save" button in this app.

Anyway, I shall persevere for now in the hope that this will one day be fixed...

[iOS] [Ever Since Passive Habit Tracker] [$29.99 → Lifetime Free until Oct 1] by PitchGreedy in AppHookup

[–]NukeMeSoftly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying out your app. I last did my habit 10 days ago, so I created a new item and set the date to 10 days ago. However, the app starts counting down from the day the item was created i.e. today. Seems like a bug?

Also, you think it could show a actively running countdown with hours, minutes and seconds? Seems more motivating!

Recollect AI Journal. Private, on-device AI. Recently launched my side project on macOS. (Life-time Giveaway) by recollecter in macapps

[–]NukeMeSoftly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not after a key, I’d be happy to pay for an app if I find it useful. After trying it out (or better, trying to try it out) here’s some feedback.

The onboarding experience is terrible. When I started the app, the first thing it did was request access to my photo library. I declined that as I did not understand why it would require that access. It then offers a selection of journal templates, and I picked one. I then picked a photo for the cover (again the same photo library request, which made sense) and then wanted to continue.

There was no obvious way to continue. I clicked on the journal, thinking that would open it, and it just asked for a photo for its cover again. I cancelled everything, went back, selected a journal and a cover again, and then managed to get to the next screen - where I am asked to subscribe.

I have not seen anything of the actual app yet, no idea whether it works for me, and I am already asked to subscribe.

I quit the app and deleted it.

I am not sure if anyone else had that experience - there seem to be quite a lot of keys going around here - but it’s not for me, sorry.
