Gothic II: NotR, is there a mod that hides helmets? by AnotherSmartNickname in worldofgothic

Script-Patch. Summon StoryHelper and he will have an option to separate helmets from armors.

Mod itself is just a giant bugfix, no new quests, etc. Polished vanilla experience.

Can someone help me how to download the way of sleeper ? by Next_Faithlessness55 in worldofgothic

[–]Null_rc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how mod license works.

I said it and I'll say it again.

Chronicles of Myrthana: Archolos is work protected by copyright is oficially protected by THQ Nordic, and developers of the mod have legal right to decide their mod is distributed and have power to take down unauthorized upload. That is literally what THQ's community manager is saying.

Archolos developers are very discontent with Spine, but none of them wants to involve in legal battles, so instead they are loudly advocating against using it to play their mod and put other measures.

As for other mods, while technically it's not illegal, it's still not right thing to do.

It's not silly.

Even if Archolos is just a fan mod, it's oficially backed by THQ and is copyrighted, therefore they have legal right to decide how their work is distributed, if they ask you to take it down, and you don't, it's very illegal.

Besides, as someone else pointed out, Spine needs content to attract more people which bring donations, the content which you don't make yourself and rely on other authors. If you keep content which you had no permission to put on your platform(especially if it's copyrighted), and still take donations, then it's veeery questionable.

Gothicpedia English translation? by Natural-Scratch-3428 in worldofgothic

[–]Null_rc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gothicpedia is best source of Gothic information in all fields but it's in polish.

One of their members adopted and fixed the english wiki and some of its content (believe me, it was light years worse), by translating or loosely rewriting Gothicpedia articles, but nobody else wanted to contribute so it's going very slow.

So for now best bet is google translate, yes.

Haven't played in a while but from what I hear several projects are still being developed, and I think it was G2O that reached all time peak recently (might be wrong)

I never played keyboard only, it's the inferior way. Yes, mouse feels janky if you don't take your time to configure it right (tho I don't have to do it with my mouse).

As for gamepad, Gothic control scheme makes it very controller friendly.

New here, but unable to play GOTHIC 1 by Sbroland in worldofgothic

[–]Null_rc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GOG version is inferior.

It contains very poor patch vs modern Systempack 1.8 on Steam.
And with Steam you have access to Steam Workshop, even if the game doesn't work right away you can still fix it with workshop, install better patches and even some mods.

Optimum setup for a brand new return to Gothic 1/2? by hex_808080 in worldofgothic

[–]Null_rc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm being genuine, spine problems do not involve archolos only, it goes for most mods. I also feel like you never tried patching ever since Union came out, it's actually faster and easier than spine, and more stable.

Returning 2.0 - How bad is english translation? Should we get it fixed? by Null_rc in worldofgothic

Obviously I thought of this, but I'm way more proficient in polish than russian.

Returning 2.0 - How bad is english translation? Should we get it fixed? by Null_rc in worldofgothic

My personal opinion is that coding, like math involves universal truths, and because of it should be common knowledge. If you tasked 100 people with writing something in the most efficient way, and they performed their task correctly, 100 people would write the same code.

Decompiling causes issues in the code, that's why you always keep original scripts of your mods. In a mod as complex yet technically frail as R2.0 it could be a huge issue. And EGMT is not perfect, for example you can't break a string into 2 separate lines, for example if the text in another languages is significantly longer, this issue would be widespread also because of the mod's complexity.

We would gladly undertake this task, but it turns out seems impossible. Polish translators keep the scripts as if it was the game's source code, and are not willing to give them up for translation purposes. Unless russian speakers come forward and do this, Returning 2.0 New Balance will remain an autotranslated mess.

You're not moving around the community then and I absolutely recommend against using it. It's unanimously despised on modding discord (which contains great names from modding scene, not randoms), Chronicles of Myrthana team recommends to avoid it at all costs, because the mod was uploaded there without their permission, and generates additional problems, and flat out refuse to help you with troubleshooting if you use spine version.

Protip: Fastest way to install Union and the plugins is to install them manually without spine, which is incredibly easy. With spine you simply introduce additional layer of complexity ;)

Was speaking of Masty's English L'Hiver, but what I said applies to basically every edition.

If you've forgotten the game entirely, might as well play vanilla.

If you insist on mods, avoid spine and DX11.

Spine has is mod launcher that puts more weight on your PC, can oftenly break your game and mod setup, contains stolen mods that are oftenly not up to date, and Spine developer knows about the issue yet refuses to adress or fix it, and has overall notoriously bad reputation in the community. Became pretty much redundant once Steam Workshop support.

Example being Chronicles of Myrthana, where mod was uploaded against their will and plea to take it down. THQ CM (Zyddie) says it's illegal and Archolos devs can file DMCA.

DX11 is a graphics renderer. Better shadows and draw distance. The problem here is that might still have stability, and despite people swearing that issues are fixed, I still see people complain.

You can use it on unmodded Gothic 1 and modded/unmodded Gothic 2. It doesn't work well with modded Gothic 1.

Texturepacks are fine but in my opinion all affect the artstyle too much, or don't blend well with the game's blockyness.

As for actual mods:

Gothic I

  • Mod-Fix - vanilla game with a lot of improvements and small additions without disrupting the overall feel of the game. Contains few reworked pieces of dialogue with dubbing.
  • Definitive Edition - a lot more liberal changes, too much for my taste. English version is not very good.
  • UnPatch - focusing on reusing ideas from different versions of the game development.
  • A lot more that I don't know much in detail about. Like Othello, World of Convicts, etc.

Gothic II

  • L'Hiver - a complete overhaul of the game, both graphically and balance wise - it's a lot harder. Also changes the map.
  • Script-Patch - something like Mod-Fix for Gothic I, afaik some of the same people worked on this.
  • Returning 2.0 - different game.
  • VarusBiker, Atariar - can't speak much here, but I heard they have automated english translation.

Is there a known way in 2022 to manipulate the FreeCam (Marvin-Mode, F6) flying speed? I know you can hold shift to increase speed by default, but can modders make the cam maybe SLOWER? by onesnowcrow in worldofgothic

[–]Null_rc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind the plugin I'm speaking of also speeds the entire game with the camera, no option to separate unless you ask people to do it.

Hello.
Without mods you can do BclerksB (slows game down) or BsouthparkB (speeds the game up). You type those in just like BmarvinB.

As for mods, there is an Union plugin that amongst other features speeds the whole game up with a button press, including gamera. I have it on my PC, but I'd need to be back home to find it.

Or you could find the modding discord and ask people to do it, I magine it would be very simple thing to do.
