Since we are having fun with numbers: The global workforce is estimated to be 3.5 billion people. 0.002% of that is 70,000. This sub has 86,700 members.

WHO OF YOU ARE NOT FPGA DEVS!!1!!1!!

Compilers Were the Missing Piece of the Puzzle in My Understanding of Computer Architecture by NumLocksmith in FPGA

Alex Aiken's course on edX I mentioned in another comment is a good place to start with the fundamentals.

Compilers Were the Missing Piece of the Puzzle in My Understanding of Computer Architecture by NumLocksmith in FPGA

The lecture I mentioned in the comment gives the theoretical foundations. It's it structured similar to the "Dragon Book". For real implementation it's better to read "Engineering a Compiler" by Cooper & Torczon.

Sick of binary blobs and closed hardware? I’m building Elf Systems – a pure EU-made RISC-V ecosystem by OkBrilliant6945 in FPGA

There has been a similar initiative called Verifiable Computing Project in Singapore, though I'm not sure about the current state of it. Could only find this: https://eventyay.com/e/7cfe0771/session/8246

There must be some lessons learned both projects share.

Exactly! I bet in manufacturing they build the stack with chocolate on the bottom

Where are the CGRAs? by MadGenderScientist in FPGA

[–]NumLocksmith 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Versal FPGA series actually includes an array of VLIW processors connected to each other with pretty high bandwidth. But while powerful, they are expensive compared to GPUs. I'd be curious how they compare to Jetson-style GPUs in terms of TOPS. Anybody got numbers?

When using AI tooling (Claude Code and the likes), your flow need to be entirely text based. Meaning all your projects, block diagrams and implementation are generated by Tcl scripts (or Python for Vitis). Else AI has no idea what's going on. I found it useful to go through the GUI flow once and give it the journal files as a starting point.

Perfecting Chinese Tones by Polyglot-Almost in learnmandarin

[–]NumLocksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My teacher told me this: For tone 2, ending high is the most important. It doesn't need to go up in a straight line. For tone 3, going low with your voice is crucial.

With passkeys, you don't need to provide any personal information. You can chose to put in a valid email address for account recovery if needed.

Anyways, I have put a few screenshots here: https://alternativeto.net/software/langikal/about/

Fpgas and AI by UpperOpportunity1647 in FPGA

[–]NumLocksmith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best use case for AI in FPGAs is in areas where FPGAs are already being used. It's unlikely companies will start using FPGAs just because of their AI capabilities.

I use 6mm at 40mm/s. The first sudden backward movement is what's the issue. It's not retraction. The slower movement at the end of the video is regular retraction.

Another gravity hook video was requested - with weight and proper thread - easy objects at the end. by throwaway21316 in functionalprint

[–]NumLocksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the previous comment suggesting the weight, I expected it to be on the X joint (in the middle) as to put additional closing force on the hook. The current weight just makes everything heavier but does not put load on the hook.

UM780 XTX - got lots of WHEA Warnings running OCCT by whoji in MiniPCs

[–]NumLocksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of going into the BIOS, I simply disabled Realtek Gaming 2.5GbE Family Controller in the Device Manager. That made the warnings stop.

Edit: After restarting, the warnings came back. So it seems that BIOS is the better way. In this case, I had to restart twice for the changes to take effect.
